I'll begin to give credit to Sony when 3 of my playstations don't break down again over a 2 year period.

I don't mean to stick up for Sony, i'm just really annoyed with these uneducated/false hate videos, that gather sheep.

It's become trendy to bash Sony. It's very easy to make a video poking fun at any presentation. As a system the PS3 is really advanced by todays standards, as it's able to submit "trillions" of calculations in a second.

Billions of dollars invested in creating this machine, even at $1,000.oo that is still cheap for such hardware and software. Still it's cheaper than a PC at that depth.

The truth is Sony is recieving alot of flack for the price of the PS3. Other than that it would be great to have a working PS3. (God knows if the 1st generation PS3's will be stable)

Sony is too advanced too soon = Price up.
This is why everyone is hating on Sony. Making such videos and sending a messege not to buy a PS3 sounds very personal.

The video is either made by someone hurt by the price of their PS2's successor, or someone who wishes Nintendo and Microsoft will group together to destroy todays leader in computer entertainment. (Yes the PS2 is still the #1 Home console today)

If you're a true gamer, what good reason is there to dislike the PS3 ? Price is no excuse not to admire the system and games.
First off, there's no way in hell the PS3 cost BILLIONS to develop. Pure development cost is maybe 50 million max.

Second, the price tag is a huge reason why not to get a PS3, it's a lot of money to spend just for a gaming machine, and you're going to spend a lot more getting everything you'd want for it. The hardware's capabilities are very impressive, but the processor is also an unproven technology; there's plenty of potential for it to go wrong and your PS3 could be worthless. That's also not including the risk of the blu-ray format, which isn't widely used either. The entire console's basis is a combination of risks

As a "true gamer," price is important, I'm not made of money and I try to get the most bang for my buck. The PS3 also hasn't shown much that's truely interested me as a gamer. Yes, the graphics are jaw-dropping, but graphics don't make a game, they just make it pretty. The only PS3 title that I'm interested in at the moment is FFXIII; which I remember there were rumors it might be on 360 as well, but who knows. FFXIII is far down the line, so I certainly won't buy a PS3 for a game that's going to come out over a year from now. All the rest of the games are simply graphics improvements, they might as well be ports for all the games are really changing. So you see, it's not just the price, it's what I'm getting for the price that's not very appealing.

In the future, I might get a PS3; but it'll have to be after there's enough games that I'm interested in to warrant the price tag. Right now, there's just not enough to make me want to spend even $100 on the console; nothing excites me.

While it might be trendy to bash sony, you cannot deny that there are actual reasons to do so. Sony might have built the greatest gaming machine in history(won't know for years from now), but they have fucked up handling it to the consumers. Bashing sony has gone overboard as more and more people jumped on the bandwagon, but some of it is deserved.

Excuse me, 80 Billion Yen ($540,000,000 or so) Sony had to get a loan for this.

Ok if you can't afford it, then don't buy it. No reason to tell people who actually can afford it they are making a bad choice. As consumers we always did pay more for games than we do for the systems. Always did. And if we didin't, the console market would crash and burn.

Useless, but not worthess.
I don't promote the 1st generation of any system. I did say something along the lines of how nice a "working" PS3 would be. I plan on getting one in the spring, i'm glad there are consumers that will buy the PS3 and test it for me.

Bajaratt said:

PS3 is capable of playing Sony's Blu Ray. Which is around 50 gigs or so. If it fails what's the problem ? There is always CD and DVD and HDDVD.

There is a difference between being a gamer and being a consumer. That's like saying you can't possibly admire a PS3 game just because of the price tag.

Well it's up to the developers, as it always was. The PS3 is a super computer and again it does trillions of calculations per second. Unlike other systems it will keep track of a bullet even if you can't see it, It will also simulate gravity and kenitic energy, 2 things which does not exist in CG. Like the the other systems the PS3 will be unique, and supply us with new and inovative feeds that has never been done before in video games.

What ? 3rd party Video game developers can't ? But they have before. You don't like Video games as much as you use to. That's fine but it's you're personal opinion.

This is all about the Wii mote isn't it. Only difference with that thing is we'll have to shake our ass to controll the game, what else is there ? Oh we can make Mario jump with a quick jolt of the wrist. Does the controller really make the game ? Will Zelda be better on the Wii just because we can use the Wii mote on it, as opposed to playing it on the cube which is totally identical. Personally i'd rather play it on the Wii, only because Wii is new.

Sony like all other game companies will be open to the late consumers. The more games, the more you'll pay. You can also go with used games. If you do or don't get the system is up to you.

Bajaratt said:

Well no one is forcing you to have it.

Um.... Sorry to say, but bashing Sony over something like this is very spoiled behaviour. We're talking about Toys here.

You have 360 and Wii, it's time to send Sony to hell. The same Sony who entertained us as the #1 console. But it's time to stone them to death, i get it.

We have people dying to take a Wii mote for a spin, then they Bash Sony for not having such a device.

Sony got smashed when they bit the analog and the rumble feature, now there is no rumble feature and Sony gets struck again. As if Rumble really imporves game play.

The PS3 gets bashed for not having a CD tray, and we have to feed the CD to the system which keeps the price down. How do you explain this ?

Blue Ray is getting a bad rep. Not every game will be on Blue Ray, and if there is one, then the game had better be damn good if it needs that amount of data. If Blue Ray fails where is the problem ?

To each their own. But on a wide scale seeing a flock of sheep follow some idiots hate driven parody amoungst simple human imperfections in order to hit Sony is plain ugly, and disrespectful to those who await the PS3. Plus so many of the foolish sheep will indeed end up buying a PS3 anyway, which is why it's silly to roll with the dity liped sheppard now.

This video isn't about the price of the PS3. Sony Microsoft and Nintendo are all worthy rivals. But it is Sony who isn't allowed to have a bumpy ride at E3. That i don't get.

$600 isn't a lot for a system. But only shipping 400,000 and not getting the processor to work more than 75% is the thing that turns me down. That and the fact that all the exclusives are jumping ship or probably will be in the near future. I like Sony, don't get me wrong. They just made a lot of poor business decisions that will cost them their market share in the long run.

If they come out with a game that I'll actually care about, yes I'll buy a PS3. Since when did being a gamer mean throwing around all of your money, buying every console regardless of interest in the games? I could buy a PS3 now, I just have yet to see an actual reason to buy a PS3 in the games; which is the only thing that I care about. I don't have an HD tv, so being able to play in 1080p or whatever is of no use to me, neither is a blu-ray DVD to store HD-quality movies. Until they come out with games that actually interest me, the PS3 is crap; just like the 360 was, but the 360 is starting to get some games that look good so I might buy one eventually. Tell me, what games are you dying to play on the PS3?

Where the hell did you get that I don't like video games as much as a I used to? The only thing I said is that it takes more than a pretty picture to make a good game; if you ignore mediocre gameplay and story for just the quality of graphics, you're a very shallow gamer.

The Wiimote isn't the reason why I'm not liking PS3, but it is a step in the direction that I wish sony had taken. Rather than throw more power at a game, do something to make the game more fun; graphics don't change the gameplay at all unless they were so shitty you couldn't understand what was going on beforehand.

PS3 is capable of playing Sony's Blu Ray. Which is around 50 gigs or so. If it fails what's the problem ? There is always CD and DVD and HDDVD.
If it fails, you just paid a few hundred extra for worthless technology in your PS3.

And yet, I really haven't seen anything impressive from them. Considering that so many of the developers are starting to jump ship; no one can expect the PS3 to have nearly the game base of the PS2. If the games are made at all, they will likely be multi-console so there's even less reason to buy a PS3.

Um.... Sorry to say, but bashing Sony over something like this is very spoiled behaviour. We're talking about Toys here.
Yes, we're talking about toys, I think it's a huge waste of money to buy a toy with very little worthwhile factors. Let's also include the commercials, which can only be described as "What the fuck was that?"

I agree that some people are mindlessly bashing sony, but seriously, stop acting like that's all anyone is doing. If you can't see that sony has made some pretty big mistakes in their development and marketing of the PS3, then you're just blind to the extent of the worst of the Nintendo fanboys who thought Nintendo could do no wrong.

I love my PS2, and I was fully prepared to buy a PS3, but over the last year there has been so many fuck ups on sony's part that I really can't see buying one at this time.

Kill Zone, MGS4, and above all Ninja Gaiden Sigma. Those are for me, not you.

You spoke as though the PS3 is only a pretty picture. Over there years we've been waiting for games to look like their fully rendered cut scenes. Now we have that, and games can continue to be well done. why wouldn't they be ?

Bajaratt said:

Well take Ninja Gaiden for instance. That game is extremely hard, and personally i have completed it on Master Ninja.I hunger to play the PS3 remake and i'm excited about the new weapons which extend the play and missions which pose new challenges. Ninja Gaiden on XboX like many games used FMV for many cutscenes, PS3 will do this all right off the hardware, so is better graphics really better ? Hell yes. We can play a video game just the same viewing only the joint skeleton of the characters without the polygon mesh, it just won't take us away without the artwork.

I'm also a fan of R-Type. So no, i don't ignore game play, as i'm quite a skilled gamer.

PS3 offers more realism, which was never easy to do in video games. This ofcoarse does not mean the game itself will automatically be a good one. High end visuals can make matters more intense though, thus adding to the experience. There will come a time when advanced AI will play characters in video games and we'll actually care about them alot. Characters like these will be very unpredictable and they will learn about us and remember things we've told them. Put that in a game, and why not make it look real every now and then.

Bajaratt said:

With the amount of space a Blue Ray has is probably overkill for what alot of developers have in mind. But still, that disk is like a Hard Disk. Alot of games on PC needs to be installed on a HDD because of the size, (i remember at 1 point FFXI was about 5.some add gigs) Now we can have more games that size in a compact manner, more things can do done, and less ideas will be left out.

This seperation of 3rd party developers is due to revolotions taking part in the industry. Pushing so hard to make games is more expensive, and game developers can make more money on the Wii. It's more about the money then the love of making games for those developers.

"If" is not the case here. And no i'm not acting like it's all anyone is doing, i just felt the needs to speak about it here. Microsoft had failures, Nintendo had Failures, and Sony has yet to fail. Not having enough PS3s for everyone could be a tactic for all you know. Look at the PS2 lanch, and what the system has become today. If the PS3's chip set breaks, then that is a damn shame, but if it remains stable, whos gonna frown ?

-The price is too much cause you don't have any interests in the games.
-You're not able to say if the system will run stable. (even though it has yet to be released here)
-You don't see Blue Ray being used for games.

Those arn't as you would say "Sony's fuck ups"

To end off this conversation, i'd like to address the fact that i wrote about what i think is an uneducated attack on the Sony PS3. That video presentation. If you want to debate with me, i can only assume you're taking sides with the one who planted this silly video.

Alot of ppl are like OMFG the PS3 is so much money... And yet when you do the math out it and the 360 are the same price.

Waz zis omfgz no iz not 4oo no = 600 u nooborz1111

But wait, PS3 is offering a free knockoff of Xbox live, that means no yearly subscription fee. For those of you not familiar with it a yearly subscription fee to xbox live is 50 bucks. Average lifespan of a system is roughly 4 years. Now someone do that math for me, what is 400 + 4x50. Uhmm yea...

Now for me the real question is how much the PS3 games are going to cost, what unique titles it will have, and the actual quality diffrence between the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the games. NONE of this data is up yet so I am heistant to make any sort of judgment on the PS3.

The REAL failings of the PS3 to date include their launch plan, something along the lines of 500k systems for all of the United States, which seems a pretty dumb idea but w/e I have patiance to wait.

"Free" doesn't always mean "Good," as well.

Nintendo's Wifi Connection is free, and it's fairly barebones right now. And by Fairly, I mean entirely. With the Wii, it's supposed to get an overhaul, but how it'll turn out compared to what they're planning to do has yet to be seen.

If it came down to picking between <$5/month pay subscription, or free. I'm going to lean towards the pay, honestly. The chances of a free service being good are very nonexistant.

did you ever think.. you know.. maybe it was you? my PS2 I've had since release and only now has it started screwing up and that's my fault too XD only cause of all the moving around I've been doing and it being in boxes in car rides where it has bumpyness and then with other things that have made too much dust get inside.. but before that it was fine.. these are high tech pieces of equipment (well were high tech when they came out) not the tonko or tinker toys of when you were 3 :\ gotta be really careful with em..

everyone's so easily quick to judge Sony but I bet it's your own fault prolly.. and sure Nintendo's systems seem to be able to take more of a beating but they are delicate themselves as well.. back when N64 first came out and PS1 came out I got both and my N64 actually broke (well not entirely.. the reset button broke and some other things got messed up) cause it had issues of falling if I tripped over a cord that made the system get pulled out from where it was XD same with my PS1 though.. both of those have fallen.. it took a great deal of beating for both before they screwed up cause of my own clumsyness.. anyways.. I'm just tired of everyone blaming sony for things, I do agree they have glitches with some first released systems (though mine wasn't) but they aren't the only ones (lolMicrosoft) and I'm sure nintendo had a few systems that were fucked up too (though seemingly not as many or not as highly reported). Take some responsability.. you need to understand these are electronic machinery and require to be kept clean of dust, carefully moved around if moved, and not left on for long periods of time.. after all that's bad for the lasers and whatnot.

That's just poor care for your system. I've never dropped/hit/kicked/whatever any of my systems and the sony systems always had problems first, if the other systems had problems at all. I replaced my ps2 2 years ago, but my game cube is still going strong; everyone I know replaced their ps2 within a year of mine, but all of our gamecube's are still running perfectly.

Sony Fixes PS2 for free and ships them both ways for free... took them 3 weeks for mine, why would you replace yours? thats a couple hundred dollars down the drain when they fix them for free.

ohh yeah and my PS2 broke after I started moving it bringing it places and stuff like that otherwise it would still be running today prolly.

This topic was pretty sweet until people started getting serious. :/ Console wars are dumb, just buy whatever you want and quit telling other people what to spend their money on.

I've never heard of anyone doing free replacements when the product is out of warranty; and considering that I had owned the PS2 for about 3 years, it was definitely out of warranty.

There's a famous video where a guy drops a PS2, an Xbox, and a Gamecube off like a 4 story ledge. The PS2 just plain shatters when it hits the ground. The Xbox stays intact but won't boot up. The Gamecube comes out virtually unscathed.

Sony Fixes PS2 for free and ships them both ways for free... took them 3 weeks for mine, why would you replace yours? thats a couple hundred dollars down the drain when they fix them for free.

Tell that to the huge number of people with the disc read error. I'm sure their dealings with Sony match up with this statement 100%!

My Gamecube only froze twice ever and i have played it alot.

My first PS2 i had to file a warranty cause of the disc read error. It was a 1st generation PS2.

A Year or so later the replacemet started to get the Disc read error aswell. So i looked it up online and found a soultion that works. I wouldn't remember where the information is so i'll just write about it here.

Disc read errors often occure when there is saturation that occurs within the system and dust particals stick to the lense.

So for this you will need the following tools.....

- Clear table space

- A Philips Screwdriver

- A Miniture screwdiver set. ( can't remember which measurement it's all commen sense though)

- A clean Q-Tip (Sounds ugly but it works)

- Rubbing Alcohol

MOST IMPORTANT WHEN OPENING A PS2
After unscrewing the screws at the bottom of the PS2 ( the ones hidden under those removable rubber pegs.
DO NOT lift the upper lid right off, there are very delicate wires connected to the upper lid where the power and eject buttons are.

Instead carefully pivot the lid towards the side where the buttons are, then you will see the tape like cables that connect from the buttons attached to the lid to the rest of the system on the bottom. For clearity, the side where the buttons are, is the side you want to stay close together when opening the system (Taking a peak inside while doing this is a good idea)

(( NOTE: When pivioting the lid off the system, it is a good idea to seperate it upright. Remember you don't want that lid to exceed distance from the rest of the system or else the system is finished. ))

When you have the PS2 opened and the lid well rested next to the rest of the system. It's time to use the miniture screwdriver set. Just unscrew the plastic cover off of the DVD Rom section. to expose the lense.

So now the System is open and the lense is exposed. ( I'm sure you all know this but for the sake of practice and upcoming techno'nerds. Never touch the lense with you're bare hands. NEVER !)

1. Dip the "Q-tip" in the "Rubbing Alcohol"

2. Without gushing liquid off the Q-tip, just touch the lense applying no pressure and slowly smear the lense counter clockwise for about 10 seconds. (The Lazer Lense is very delicate and can be scratched very easily be sure to only touch the lense ever so softly)

3. Using the reverse side of the Q-Tip (the clean and dry side) repeat the above step except in a counterclockwise motion.

The Rubbing Alcohol is quick to dry and is the best cleaning solution for the lense, Even so it is still best to give it a dry sweep with the Q-Tip (GENTAL !) without scratching the lense.

Just a tip. Do not spend more than 20 seconds making contact with the lense, the longer you spend smearing the lense, the more prone to damage the lense will be.

Re-assemble the DVD Rom lid, and Rotate the upper lid back into place and shut the lid. Once the system is back in the shell, simply screw the bolts back into place.

So long as you treated that lense like you were carressing a flea, You're PS2 will be good as new.

It has been written that this procedure should only be done once. I had to do this twice on my PS2, and it's fine. I think every PS2 owner should know about it, or atleast know someone who can do this for them.

see.. told you.. dust.. you can keep your system fine and not drop it or anything but dust is all over the damn place.. hell.. it's also why a computer can have issues too. Dust is an electronics worst nightmare D: sorta.. and I don't trust videos of that sort Tag. You can always shop such things... unless I saw it in real life I won't believe it... I don't see any system falling from 4 stories and surviving fine.

and I too sent in my PS2 to get fixed, was gone about 2 weeks then back working fine. This was about a year ago after the warranty supposedly expired. *shrugs* they seem to not mind fixing a PS2.. I just got impatient since FFXII just came out lately and I could get a new PS2 for a great deal (yay for my dad's friend owning his own store and whatnot :P).

There's a famous video where a guy drops a PS2, an Xbox, and a Gamecube off like a 4 story ledge. The PS2 just plain shatters when it hits the ground. The Xbox stays intact but won't boot up. The Gamecube comes out virtually unscathed.
That's great, but if you're beating the shit out of your systems then it's your own goddamn fault when they don't work.

I've had my PS2 for about five years now, I think. Never freezes and plays the blue cds perfectly fine. Only problems I've had are when I was trying to play old scratched up PSX discs. Even then it would work after a few tries. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones.
