yeah, I think the camera scared him, some cats are just weird like that.

M'kay.

I love rabbits. Like really, my dad hates me sometimes in the spring because I feed the wild ones that live under the deck >_>;

If anyone is going to get a rabbit, I would either suggest an Angora (continued brushing and collection of the hair, you can actually sell it for profit) or this fucking beauty:

Bunneh. Flemish Giant Rabbits. I loves dem. Figures, I dont like small dogs, I like big dogs to wrestle and cuddle with. If I'm going to get a rabbit, its going to be a big fucking rabbit to cuddle with. They've got great personalities as well, only rabbit I've heard described as 'sarcastic' other than Bugs Bunny.

This is not a suggestion for Pasquale :3 Go with the frogs hon.

That rabbit is enormous. Like, nightmare enormous.

Or should I say... nighthare?

(I'm so sorry for that.)

I'd say cat.

if you want a cheap cat with low health medical bills, don't buy a pure-breed cat. They, like dogs, usually have a lot of genetical problems. A mix-breed cat will generally be more healthy. also, if you want close to no medical bilsl at all, buy a cat from someone that has a cat and sell their cats at a respectable price. Those will most likely both be healthy and good, as they've likely had a good previous owner that took care of them lovingly.

Really, i've had cats all my life. For the past 20 years, we have had NO medical bills at all, except for vaccination cost which goes for like $10 in Sweden, and neutering cost, which is also cheap, and not a requirement.

neutering/steralizing your cat usually gives it a more pleasant life whenits older, as it reduces the chance it will get diseases like cancer. however, you won't get to have adorable kittens runing around. although if you're lazy, that is not a good idea anyway, as they LOVE to make your house in to a mess.

Either way, a good cat is low-maintenance. it cleans itself so it won't smell, it can get its own food andfind its own water if you let it run outside (although feeding is still adviced...), its not noisy as long as its not a female cat in heat. Has a decent lifespan, is not a bird, can be cheap if treated right, and they're just adorable.

I didn't feel like reading 3 pages of people suggesting something other than a dog so I just read the OP.

Get a fucking dog you retard. No animal on earth even compares. Dogs are smart as shit, fun as hell, and a great companion, if you look out for it, it'll look out for you. Cats are retarded(compared to dogs) and very introverted. There are a few exceptions, some cats are very social and loving, but I'd say 95% of "pet" cats don't want to be pets. If you buy a cat you might as well buy a slave, cause God knows they sure as shit don't want to be there. Cat's don't learn anything from you, a cat will never sit or stay or fetch if you tell it to. Cat's will never warn you of a fire or a thief breaking into your house or anything useful. Cat's are just there, doing their own thing, you can't really own one. Sure you can buy one and bring it home and let it live there, but cats do not belong to anyone but themselves, they are not loyal creatures by any means. I see no point in investing money in an animal that yeilds no return. The ONLY point to ever getting a cat is get rid of a mouse problem. Cats are frucking excellent mousers, I'll give them that. Growing up I can remember several times when we moved into a house and had a mouse problem, and as soon as a cat started staying there it would completely disapear.

Dogs are more maintenance than alot of other pets, but what's the point in buying a low-maintenance pet and all it does is sit there all day? I'd rather put a little more time and effort into something and actually get something back for it as opposed to putting a little less time and effort into something and get absolutely jack shit.

Dogs are retarded, and I don't know what the hell cats you've been around Excalibur, but cats are attention whores. Don't get me wrong, I like dogs... but c'mon. (As well, Pasquale doesn't seem like he wants to put a hell of a lot into this pet choice... so a dog is probably the wrong choice. Like you said, they are high maintenance.)

And Uzor is right. Get a mixed breed cat. We don't breed traits that are beneficial, we choose traits that are more pleasing for us. Unfortunately, because of that, nature is pissed and pure breeds are more prone to health issues. Also, I've always found that mixed breeds are more social adept as well, and tend to be better pets.

Cats are very low maintenance past house breaking them. When you need affection they are there, and the rest of the time they do their own thing. It's like the ideal friends with benefits setup. =P

You must have bad experience with cats. All of the cats I've had have always loved everyone in the family. Following us around while we're outside, going down to the beach with us, or just lay in the sun besides us while we're outside. Cats are egoistic, I give you that, but that's due to the nature of cats. They are lone wolves. They look out for themselves first and foremost, and everyone e lse comes second. However, that doesn't mean they can't be loving to you. Treat a cat right and it'll treat you right.

And cats can, just like dogs, warn of health problems. While you can't teach a cat to do it, they can. They, like dogs, have a better sense of smell than humans, and can thus smell hormone differences in a human, or "off" smells. As an example, there's a cat at a house for elderly in Denmark, where a cat, 24 hours before someone will die, jumps up in their bed and lies besides them. Thus, the staff working there can call said person's relatives and warn them that said person will die, giving them an opportunity to come visit their grandma/grandpa/whatever one last time to say goodbye. This is due to their bodies releasing ammoniac through their breath etc. before they die, which the cat picks up on, and lies besides them to keep them company.

Cats are excellent at smelling small differences, such as a change in hormone levels changing the way a human smell. Thus, they, like dogs, can smell if a human is sad, depressed, scared, nervous, sick etc. and can keep the person company. Animals are proven to help people feel more calm and relaxed, especially if they have a pet that keeps them company when they're feeling down or sick.

While yes, a dog can be trained to react in a certain way, cats do it because they feel like it. Its not because cats are more stupid, its because of their nature. Dogs have a hierarchy system, and if they consider their owner to be the alpha male/female, they will listen to him/her, because its in their nature to do what their leader says. As I said earlier, cats are lone wolves, and don't follow the same hierarchy system as dogs. This leads them to be more stubborn and egoistical, but it doesn't make them less intelligent. It just requires you to teach them in other ways. If a cat isn't treated right, it will just use you for food and don't give a fuck about you. If you treat it right, though, it can be just as loving as a dog.

I see your retard comment and raise you a cats are for women.

They may be able to sense a difference but I've never seen one do jack shit about it. Everytime I get pissed off(usually at a game or the computer) and start screaming it, my dog comes over and tries to make me feel better. I've never in my life seen or even heard of a cat doing anything even remotely similiar.

That's my whole point - the nature of cats, is retarded. They're asshole creatures who don't give a shit and listen to no one, why would anyone want to "own" that? I want an animal who not only loves me but listens to me as well. Cats might be your friend, but a dog will be your child.

So you're saying that the reason you can't train a cat isn't because it's too stupid to learn, it just doesn't want to learn? I can easily believe that, but it doesn't really make me think any better of them, if anything it makes me hate em more. If they were stupid they'd at least have an excuse for being such an asshole of a species.

I live in a condo and they don't allow dogs.
Guess you're SOL, get a girlfriend instead then.

I am totally with Morwen for kick ass claw frog...coz maybe if it Mutates you have like a personal Bodyguard with claws

The good thing about a frog is that when it dies, you can cook it.

That's, once again, back to how you treat it. And about the screaming, the cat won't over trying to make you feel better when you are pissed off and screaming, because it gets intimidated by you. Cats don't like loud noises, it makes them scared and uncomfortable. That is why, when raising a cat, you can't scream at it when it does something bad. It will consider you a threat and get scared and run away. A dog, due to their hierarchy system, will think he did something bad, and will try to please you to get on your good side. A dog you can scream at, to some extent, as they are used to the alpha dogs barking at them to let them know who's in charge. However, the reason you are not recommended to scream at a dog when the dog is barking, is because the dog will think you're talking to him, and will respond by barking. As a general rule of thumb, you should not yell at a dog when he's done something bad. In either case, he don't necessarily run over to you because he's trying to make you feel better, its a high possibility he do it because he thinks he did something bad, and are trying to make it up to you.

That's my whole point - the nature of cats, is retarded. They're asshole creatures who don't give a shit and listen to no one, why would anyone want to "own" that? I want an animal who not only loves me but listens to me as well. Cats might be your friend, but a dog will be your child.
Once again, they will give a shit and listen if you treat them right. Sure, its harder to please a cat due to their lone wolf nature, and due to the reason they don't consider you higher then them. They consider you, at best, a good friend, as opposed to dogs, which SHOULD consider you a leader if you did your job right.

So you're saying that the reason you can't train a cat isn't because it's too stupid to learn, it just doesn't want to learn? I can easily believe that, but it doesn't really make me think any better of them, if anything it makes me hate em more. Its not because they are assholes and stupid, its their nature. Dogs consider you a leader, if you do your job right. If you come home to a stranger's house, the dog is likely to not give a fuck about you if you try to order it around. Simply due to the fact that it considers you an outsider stomping in on his territory. The reason he's not attacking you, is because he consider his owner the leader. If the leader accepts you in to his territory, so will the dog. Its the leader's wish, and he have to comply due to being of lower rank. An aggressive dog more often then not consider himself the leader, and his owners of lower rank. Thus, the dog consider you a stranger trying to take over his territory, and since he's the leader, can go to attack. This is due to the owners being bad owners.

My point is, cats, too, have territorial instincts. However, they will usually not go to attack, as you are larger. Instead, the cat gets scared and runs away. They can let others in to their territory, such as other cats and animals, if they consider them friends. However, they will never consider someone a leader. They merely let others share their territory with them. This is the largest difference between cats and dogs. My cats, for example, share their territory with us, and the dogs. And the cats and dogs can often be seen "playing" together. The cats consider the dogs friends and let them share their territory, while the dogs consider them part of the flock. Since the leaders are we, the owners, they won't attempt to drive the cats out, as that is our choice, and they have to comply.

The point I'm trying to get across, is that cats and dogs are so different because of the way they think, which is due to their lazy nature and "clan system", being their hierarchy system. Look at lions, they are possibly among the most lazy animals on earth. Almost all cat animals are lazy. That is why they are so easy to care for. A dog will run around and play and make the house dirty, partly due to dragging dirt in from outside. A cat will just groom itself and sleep, that is, when they are not outside hunting, eating, sleeping, or doing their business in the litter box.
Guess you're SOL, get a girlfriend instead then.
A girlfriend both costs more and require more time then a dog or cat ever will ~.~

Edit: A dog's hierarchy system is actually not that much unlike ours. The boss at your work tells you what you have to do, and you get it done. If you mess up, your boss can scream at you, which might cause you to want to "make up" for it. Every part of society have a rather obvious hierarchy system, which everyone follows, knowingly or not. The dog, too, follows a hierarchy system. While they may not be fully aware of the system itself, they follow it because it is in their nature. Monkeys, hyenas and a lot of other species have a hierarchy system which everyone knows about and follows, aware of it or not. It is everywhere, from the family with the parents being of higher rank then the kids, to the companies where the customers are higher rank then the employees, to the countries with the politicians ruling the country.

Has anyone here ever actually had frog legs? I can tell you from experience that it's the one meat that actually does taste like chicken. It's kinda wierd.

I'll reply to you when I get some more time Uzor, goin to bed now(just didn't want you to think I was blowing you off cause I made a post but didn't reply).

I dunno where you guys are getting these asshole cats, every cat I've ever known has been very affectionate and loving. My cats, my mom's cats, cats owned by friends, all of them have been cuddlebugs.

Cats may not have the same pack temperament as dogs, but they're still animals with a social hierarchy. Cats always do better when there are other cats around. We lived with just one cat for several years, and when we got 2 new kittens just under a year ago her temperament made a definite improvement. She was the closest to an "asshole cat" we'd ever had, and now that she's got 2 others to keep her company she's almost a pest with how much she wants to be petted. Happy cats put out pheremones that make other cats in their "pack" happy as well. In fact there's a product called Feliway that works on this premise, it's a pheremone spray filled with kitty happy gas, that helps calm down scared or skittish cats.

I'm not going to say cats are better than dogs, because I like dogs too (and want to adopt a greyhound once we have a house with more space). Cats and dogs are just different, well, as cats and dogs.

As far as things for Pasquale goes, though, I wouldn't recommend either honestly. Judging by your OP with the whole "I don't really like animals but the concept of a pet seems kinda cool" thing, I honestly wouldn't recommend either. Cats or dogs, either one, when you take one into your home it should be like you're adopting a new family member. One that doesn't know how to use the toilet and may potentially eat things you don't want it to eat. If you're just getting a pet cause it seems cool, then get a small animal like a gerbil, fish, or frog. Getting a cat or dog without knowing 100% that you're totally into doing whatever it takes to make that animal part of your family would be unfair to the animal, and ultimately unfair to you. It's that kind of attitude that creates asshole cats and dogs.

When you are ready for a cat or dog though, please go to your local humane shelter and adopt one. The shelter will be able to tell you exactly what the temperament of the animal is, and help you determine if it will mesh well into your home. Most (reputable) shelters spay or neuter their animals, give them health care, and oftentimes will give you a coupon so you can get their first vet visit free of charge. The adoption fees that you pay are usually nominal, and oftentimes they'll encourage multiple adoptions by giving you 2 for 1 on adoption fees. We got our two kittens from the SPCA on a 2 for 1; total adoption fees for the both of them were $100. They were both already spayed, wormed, and up to date on vaccinations, and we got a vet visit for each of them right after adoption to verify they were in good health.

problem with shelter cats, though, is that they often have a bad temper, due to their earlier owners misstreating them. Additionally, the shelters usually have too many cats to effectively treat right and in a loving way take care of them in a way that makes them in to excellent pets. The best cats, and pets as a whole, are the ones bought from a family that breed cats and sell themselves. They've had time to cuddle with the kittens, raise them etc.

Also, what I don't like about the states, is that they seperate the kitten from its mother at. A too early stage. This, too, negatively effects the cat. Raising good pets is an art, that requires love and dedication. Like Felina said, if its a "cool thing", I wouldn't recommend it. It takes time and dedication, but it can be very rewarding.
