Looks like Peregrine was right. Blm nerf.

You have little faith, Teppo. I've always been an advocate of the Elemental Resistance building idea. They can always scale how resistance builds differently for larger scale battles. Look at the NM Hyper timer. Not every NM goes Hyper. And those that do have differing clocks in which they actually do go Hyper. Things can be designed based on the encounter. They have in the past, they will be in the future.

Those I agree with, I like the way hnms are now. I enjoy how non-Jp are able to even claim HNMs. I was sadden by the fact some HNMs were no longer soloable (rdm> serket) (thf/nin>king aruthor), but we can only hope for the best on what SE has plans for Blms. I can only hope for a Element resist build up that needs several seconds to cool down is the worse they can do.

If you're too afraid of death in an MMO, quit playing it. It's part of the game. Everyone experiences. Saying you manaburn just to skip the death is a pretty weak excuse. You manaburn it because you want to easy-mode your way through the game and not do things as they were designed.

It's not hard to do DM without Black Mage, but like I said to Blabj, it's hard to find people who can't remove their heads from Black Mages asses to do things without them.

Skaw, my main is a pld, not scared of death at all. Hell, im really good at it!! Anyway, this is the set up i did DM with. 4 blackmages does not seem unreasonable. They are all in the same pt for logistical purposes (brd). Do you think this set up should have been nerfed?

Party 1: (tanking party)
PLD/WAR -
NIN/WAR -
WHM/SMN -
PLD/WAR -
RDM/WHM -
NIN/WAR -

Party 2: (nuking party)
BLM/WHM -
BLM/WHM -
BLM/WHM -
BLM/WHM -
BRD/WHM -
SMN/WHM -

Damage Dealing:
--------------------
RDM/WHM -
THF/NIN -
MNK/WAR -
WAR/NIN -
SAM/WAR -
DRK/NIN -

That's what I've also always advocated about Elemental resistance build up, it should go down, overtime. I'd rather not see BLM useless, but I'd like to see other jobs getting in on things too.

You are seriously missing what I'm saying. 3-4 isn't an issue(Regarding DM, anyway.) 15-18 is.

Theres a down side to buffing other jobs to equal the strength of one thats overpowered. You end up trivializing encounters further, and in turn, SE might make those encounters harder to offset that, then you're virtually back at square one.

This is why Absolute Virule(sp) is such a problem. If we continued to nerf jobs, even your basic HNMs like roc or serket will require Kirin like set ups. As for Kirin, ( /,\) I'd say the days on killing in under an hour will be a thing of the past.

No, i understand what u are saying. All i am sayin is that there are other avenues that can be pursued, and to hell w/ what blm do. But I'm also making the point that depending on the nerf, even this type of set up would be nerfed even though it is actually quite reasonable.

should be 'blm in this type of set up'

The deal with AV is people haven't found the Achilles Heel yet. Before player characters got so powerful through equipment and merits, Gods required the Winds to defeat without too much trouble(Still beatable without them, obviously.)

But it seems that AV does require that one trick to defeat.

One thing SE will have to do alongside a manaburn nerf is nerf melee roaming parties as well. Trying to force Blms back into regular parties only works if regular parties want them, and from what I gather (and I'm almost at said levels), people don't. Endgame merit parties are a melee's time to shine. No longer do they need tanks and mages to progress, and I imagine it's liberating. For once, melees get to say "No thanks blm, whm, rdm, etc, you'll only slow us down". For all its downsides, manaburns at least allowed blms to be a selfsupporting population. Most other jobs were constrained by the proportion of other jobs to their own for getting exp.

This'll be some interesting stuff to play with when I get back.

On another note, people complaining just need to deal with it. I always wanted to play BLM but the ridiculous # of people that took it up after the RNG nerf drove me away, it was just annoying having so many people flock to the job.

If they nerf WAR while I'm gone, I'll just suck it up and move on to another 75 job I enjoy. It isn't near as hard to hit 75 as it used to be pre-nerf. Just suck it up and move on if you think your job is being hit too hard. Personally, just like Skaw, I'd like to see all the people that just want to play the latest "badass" job drop WAR and go elsewhere since I played it from NA release when the general consensus was that WARs were a worthless second rate DD that couldn't hope to tank anything post-37.

Another good point Skaw brings up is that cannon parties aren't the issue, exp is just endless grinding as it is. Missions and huge BCs etc. that are supposed to be epic battles getting mana burned in one synced mass spell cast isn't the way it's supposed to be. You completely bypass any challenge and get an instagib autowin on things that are supposed to pose a threat. SE obviously didn't intend for it to be this way. It's really not very hard to understand at all. Quit being so angry about it.

Don't get too carried away guys. The original thread should have stated "The dev team is thinking about this stuff." They don't know yet which of those ideas will be implemented.

I hope whm get refresh =P

or just cannon with me for something alot better than blm cannons ;)

Nerfs don't help, especially in a PvE game. Nerfs only hurt. There will always be a dominent class. First was rngs, then blms, next will be mnks. After a mnk nerf...maybe drg? It's a never ending cycle that only serves to hurt us. I can't wait to see the fun at hnm fights without rngs or blms. However, we all know a new DD will step up and fill the role. Maybe smn will be the new blm.
and just so ya know MNK already was nerfed a long time ago. :o and they did already nerf SMN too..... they were just longer ago.

Why don't they nerf MNK, or WAR then?
see above - mnk was already nerfed once

So more reason to use scythe and absorbs? ;x I guess they'll make absorb easier to stick to HNMs or something.

And I guess we can get ready for another wave of whiners like the rng nerf. ;x

The only thing I don't like (and this is for the jobs that I actually play) is that I wish they lowered the Avatar Cost, or even just offer more pieces of equipment that does it. Does the AF even have that?

Is SE trying to phase out RDMs or what? Why does every other mage job get our spells and were stuck with regen1? Unless they are adding new spells that don't require merit pts. to obtain, RDMs and blms are in for some hurt. If rdms are considered to powerful, what would the nerf be?

Those are some great updates. Group chakra, or whatever they're doing will own for mnk cannons. Plus, it looks like all the whinning rng's got listened too since they're denerfing them.

well if they nerf blm your gonna need a rng 2.0.
all 30 seconds of us if all they do is give us back normal accy with sharpshot, lawl.

fyi, i dont. but if they do, they better give rdm's erase naturally. what i wanna see is more job abilities for the jobs that praticly have none on their own (nin, smn for example).

smn

alot of smn will only summon avatars when they need certain spell and then release
would like to have players keep them out longer so thinking of more benefits
change so that duration and effect of avatar buffs are calculated based on summoning skill
increase more abilities for the avatars
currently no plans for summoning bahamut; reason is they want to keep him as a "special" type of avatar
if they made him summonable, they'd have to weaken him and they don't want to do that
more summonable avatars

im fully for the bolded text actually. it makes sence that the effects of the buff should rely on smn magic skill. but SE should meet us halfway and make smn magic easier to skill up. i sat for hours lvling smn magic and wouldnt see a single skill up for all my effort. SE never intended for us to be mini whm's till 70 which is what the players of the game boxed us into doing for the most part. just like they didnt intend for nin to be a tank at first. but thats a topic for another thread. i hope what they are planning allows summoners to actually be summoners more often pre 70. parties where i can do that now are few and far between.

Can you read? Seriously. Cannoning isn't Manaburning. Manaburning = Black Mage Divine Might. Black Mage Mission BC. Black Mage Dynamis. If you can't do end-game as it was intended due to time constraints, just don't do it at all.

To sum up my personal feelings on this issue, I do agree with skaw on this. However, my fear is that as per the SE norm, whatever idiotic plan that SE comes up with will be taken well overboard. Seriously, the all Blm BCs do not really happen all that much, and I just know that SE is bound to go overboard on this.

try to make it so they play in regular parties more
I do have a problem with this however. I partied with "regular parties 99.5% of my time on the way to 75. Now that I am 75, do you know how many "regular" parties I get invited too? I'll put my flag up for longer than a lvl50 Drk, and the only invites I'll get is from the other Blms.

As far as the rest of the announcement goes, I'm VERY curious to see what SE does with the BSt adjustment. I would LOVE to see some sort of fix here where I can somewhat effectively release pets again.

I approach the Drk thing with curious trepidation. Reducing hate gain and MP cost on absorbs would be nice. I'm also interested to see what they do with scythe, and pray that they actually do it to scythe and not just something stupid like nerfing great sword, especially because I'm 16k away from SS....

Whm abilities? Long have we heard cries of needing another party refresher. We always assumed that Smn was a logical choice (at least I did). What happens if Whm now gets access to the refresh spell?....

My thoughts on this...

WAR / MNK cannons are powerful, yea... but BLM cannons are not the problem that SE is fixing. Note that I said problem, and fixing. The problem is 18-BLM divine might, 18-BLM (insert alliance fight here), there's a NM, hey let's throw BLMs at it! Nobody says "Hey let's throw asuran-spamming MNKs at it!" "Hey let's throw rampage-spamming WARs at it." I think this is mostly because of things like DM, and KS99 fights, which were supposed to be really really hard, getting manaburned down left and right.

My idea? As has been stated already, 1-2 BLMs in a party, fine. 3 gets some damage loss, and 4-6 gets plain nerfed for damage. This means you can still have good BLM support in fights where its needed, you just can't have them be the majority of your force. In alliances, it just counts the number of people, number of BLMs, and if BLMs are more than a third of the total, nerf goes on.

That would be a -fix-. Note that the individual BLM is 100% unaffected, it's when they get used in large quantities that it shows up, and hopefully shows up with a vengence, either in resist rate, or in maximum damage.

Dynamis would probably be unaffected by the nerf, due to the sheer quantity of people there.

<--whiny ranger.
thats nice and fair actually. but hardly how se tends to balance the game.
se doesnt focous on the individual player, they approach the job as a whole.
if they bonk blm with the nerf stick, you can bet your ass it will effect the individual player first, and by extention any Blm ally.

I don't see how they can nerf blm dmg without it either being ineffective to their goals, or making certain events hell. Like ks99 turtle, that was friggen built for blms, I'd like to see anyone beat it with a normal allaince setup, we had like 8blms on it and it was hard enough then. Or what about stuff the engame wryms, that fight depended on blms since my ls doesn't have an army of smns, oh then what? smns become the new main DD for them... Now everyone's gonna rush to lvl smn, then they're gonna nerf smn, then good luck on fighting a wrym.

Now, if they make it so it doesn't affect things like that, then I don't see how blm cannons would be stopped, building resistance doesn't work, blms would just have to time nuke mobs instead of haphazardly nuke to take the mob in 1 shot. (not to mention they damn well better nerf mnk and war cannons if they're gonna do that to blms)

If they wanna stop DM, just give them Shell VII or something that's only active at start and can be dispeled. Ever see a blm DM fail? if you don't 1-shot at least two of them they wipe the blms in 5seconds flat. If those fights are what the problem is nerf the fight.

I've skipped a few pages but the general feeling i'm getting here is "Omg every one uses blms and smns to kill things! NERF THEM NOW!" Cry more.

Ever try killing tiamat without them? LOL Guessing we should nerf bst even more then OMGZ THEY JUGBURNED TEH WRYMS! Seriously, there is a reason why people whore blms and smners, its ironic the people who we kill kirin for are screaming nerf at us.

Cry more, no more osodes for you.
