Where's the hot aliens?!

Haven't heard much about this game. How does it compare to FFXI and WoW? Timesink? Versatile?

It follows the books almost to the letter, with the story missions being instanced for the group away from general population. Layout and controls, battle, crafting, pacing, time commitment etc. are very similar to WoW. Anyone who has played WoW can pick this right up.

The game has a great 'Deed' system in place that awards abilities and stat modifiers for completing certain side objectives as well as awarding you unique titles that display under your name. I recommend giving it the free 10 day trial download for anyone who likes the way WoW plays, but is looking for something more story driven and with more realistic graphics.
Having a decent background in Tolkien - lore is helpful, but by no means necessary.

Although this game follows the books and the story is superbly followed, the gameplay however lets it down. It doesnt run very smoothly (dont get me wrong its playable and everything but its no where near as smooth as wow).

I played it for about a month as a hunter (on Nimrodel ironically enough). It follows WoW with the "gain lots of levels and then slow down for a bit and then speed up right at the end". Unless you have a beast of a computer, you won't be able to truly enjoy the sights, especially Rivendell.

The Fellowship Maneuver system is a nice idea, but lag makes it all but impossible to do the really useful ones. Also, farming pages for legendary traits is retarded.

That being said, I did have a fun time, but it's not quite the quality I'd spend a monthly fee on. Also, have not looked at the game recently, and this was all back in the summer.
