Losing weight ...

Thanks Stiggy^^.

And yes I should mention, I do take a multi-vitamin (called OneSource Complete) once per day. It's a multivitamin/multimineral supplement. Thanks for bringin' that up. I also take Vitamin C on top of that since we're in the cold/flu season 3 times per week.

The Weight Watchers program teaches you to stop eating when you are "satisfied" vs. full. So yah, I'm still to this day always ready to eat my next meal. Steve and I used to laugh about it. Before we started our diet there was always leftovers. Now there are NEVER leftovers in my fridge^^.

Water ... ugh ... yah, I drink what I have to. I'm just not a water drinker. Again though, we have 5 gallon bottles of Nicollette water delivered to our house now and a cooler. I drink the allotted amount I'm supposed to per day, but I have to admit, I'm still forcing myself to drink it, even after 6 months.

I'll also take anything you'd like to send. I do not mind exercising at all. I just hate walking outside right now cuz it's cold. I hate the cold weather, not the excercise.

i'm concerned about those vitamins and +c pills.
i dont wnat you to develope a ulcer. make sure the % of the multivitamin and the c pills dont exceed your recommended daily intake.

a buddy of mine got a ulcer doing that, popping Vitamin C pills to make himself better while he was sick.

gotta read the nutrition labels!

i'm confused by this statement
"Steve and I used to laugh about it. Before we started our diet there was always leftovers. Now there are NEVER leftovers in my fridge^^."

shouldnt it be there was never left overs, now there is always left overs?

water cleans your system out and makes you hungrier.

IF what you have been doing doesnt work for you or doesnt work for you maybe you should try something else or push it.

Next time you go to the doctor find out your Body fat %.

water improves vascularity and increased blood flow yadda yadda.

AND hey if you do all of these things and you still can't at least you can say you tried.

Have you priced a treadmill yet?

Not to burst your bubble on weight goal (I really, really don't..), but muscle is 3x heavier than fat, so if you're been doing exercises that tone muscles AND burn fat, that sorta goal might be a bit tough (possibly unhealthy) to reach. I think you should prolly just ignore the number on the scale..as long as you think you look good and stuff, that's all that should matter in the end. =/

And off-topic, but Kat made me feel MUCH better. I felt like the shortest person here in my 5'2''ness XD
(Doctor visit says 5'1''...I refuse to aknowledge this.)

What this means is, we never ever make extra food now. The food we make is all allotted for, as far as how many points we have left yada yada. There are no leftovers in my home anymore because there is no extra food being made. Everything is weighed out on my scale when preparing meals.

No I am not goin' over on my vitamins. No worries there^^.

As far as a treadmill goes, my parents have one in their weight room in the basement along with a whole slew of professional exercise equipment. Steve and I go over there as much as possible and workout, but my Daddy works 3rd shift, so it's kind of hard to do it on a daily basis cuz he needs his sleep. We don't want to be down in the basement in the weight room and be too loud as to wake him up, so we usually save this type of exercising for the weekends. Well then we get busy sometimes and end up blowin' it off, so this is another spot I need to get my act together and make myself go over there. As far as a treadmill here where I live, if I had room for one, I'd have it. No room unfortunately. When we build within the next few years, we've already decided we are goin' to have a weight room like my parents have. Until then, you deal with what you have^^.

To Ish: Awww, my sister was 5 ft. 2 in. and my daughter is also. I've always felt that was the perfect height^^.

Lol - I am 5'3 as well. I am at the pont where I don't mind being small anymore - since people generally think that I am younger because of it ;)

Fer sure Jen. I was carded (when I used to drink) til I was over 30. I just turned 44 and no one believes me. I have to literally show them my DL. I could lie and knock 10-12 years off my age easy. I love bein' tiny, always have^^. My mom is 60 and still looks great. Lastly, no one ever believes Heather is my child. She gets pissed, but I love it.

good luck to you kat and all of you who are trying to lose weight.
make a progress journal so you can look back and rejoice.

later alls

Hey Kat. A friend of mine at the place I work at is on Weight Watchers and she was actually talking to me about this last night. She said what she does is Walk for 45 minutes every day, and also takes a Kickboxing class 2 days a week, and is on the same point level as you I believe. She said that the points help, but taking the kickboxing class ontop of the walking helps her burn the calories off that she doesn't want. She said the kickboxing class burns about 800 calories. At this rate she is keeping up, she is dropping about 3 pounds a week, and is almost at her goal. She has lost a total of 37 pounds in about 12 weeks. And not only has she lost the weight, but she has also gotten of medicines she was on, and also is a lot more energetic then ever before. It's like she is a brand new person.

Anyways, dunno if this would help. Just thought I would share. ^^;

LOL..funny story...sort of

Kicamo is 10 years younger than I am. We were in a convenience store one day and I'm standing up at the cashier waiting to pay...he comes up and says "mom can I have $5?"

...

I literally kicked him in the ass!

Wow Lan, that totally rocks!!! Please tell your friend for me much kudo's!!!!

Just remember you guys, I'm over 40 here. Once you get over 40 your metabolism slows waaaaayyyyy down, especially for a woman. Kickboxing? Yah, I may try that. Hopefully I won't break anything:wacko: .

I love that story Bigdaddy!!!! Jen nice comeback to him.

Kierre, I would've kicked his happy ass also!!!! :)

You can try this out if you want.

For every (1lb?) of Lean muscle you have you lose (50 calories per hour?). Or something like that. Anyways light weight training could be beneficial to losing weight along with cardio which you are already doing.

Kat, I come from a rather large family (lol.. yeah just about -all- of my family is overweight or bordering obese) and my mother did weight watchers for a while, although not very successfully.

I dont take after my family at all lol, and keep an extremely tight diet and exercise every day, some tips I would give you include:
1. I know you dont like the cold, but running or jogging is one of the most surefire ways to lose weight and burn calories, not only does it do that, but believe it or not, it actually tones your stomach too, if you can, try running 4-5 times a week, start out slow, run about 1.5 miles at first, and build up half a mile each week, not only will this improve your metabolic rate, your energy level, your tone, and your weight loss, but it will balance your diet vs your exercise level to a huge degree.
2. It's really easy to eat sweets and the like, because yes! Sweets are good!
Try and give yourself a goal, whatever you see fit, perhaps cut down foods high in saturated fats and sugar, eat more green vegetables etc, I know you keep a balanced diet being on weight watchers, but eating foods with the right nutrients helps a lot!
3. Eliminate soda -completely- you will not believe just how much weight people retain simply by drinking those carbonated fluids, soda is a huge killer, and actually proves to dehydrate you more than help you, soda is really nothing but empty calories.
4. Fast Food is perhaps the biggest downfall of america, extremely high in grease, saturated and trans fat, and extremely lacking in nutritional value, yes that greesy burger is delicious, but you will feel it the after a while.
5. If you can, do a small workout every night before bed, even if it's something little like doing a certain amount of crunches each night, or pushups, or both. Staying active before a rest period will increase your metabolism, but avoid eating right before you sleep.

Other than that ^^ sounds like you have things under control, and like others have said before me, remember that muscle does way more than fat, and as you exercise and improve your fitness level, you will gain some muscle weight here and there, but lose body fat percentage. I know as a 6 foot 1 inch tall male, I exercise daily, running nearly 3-5 miles per day, I have not had fast food in over 13 months, and not had a single soda in over 15 months, i stay away from foods high in saturated fats, and eat three meals a day, which helps a lot, and I maintain a very healthy stature and build weighing in at 179 pounds. Hope this helps =) good luck!

It's more along the lines of 3,500 calories burned = 1 lbs lost.

@Lanien
Losing 3 lbs per week is quite some calorie deficit, especially if it is not early on in the diet where a lot of stored water is lost. Losing 3 lbs a week once one has been on a diet for a while is can't be healthy as one is likely losing muscle and not only fat.

@Mistra
#3 Nah, soda doesn't dehydrate you, unless there is caffeine in it. One can try the zero calorie, and zero chemicals soda, something like sparkling water, or sparkling water with lemon/lime.
#5 Is there any credible reference for a workout before bed being beneficial? Seems like an active metabolism is the last thing you want if your body is on the clock to wind down for the day.

that's what I was referring to xD a lot of sodas have caffeine in them, and to #5, the only credible reference I have is.. what I've been doing for the last two years :D, but that's it really =(

Getting rid of sodas is a good idea. Drink water instead of other beverages and for food, don't keep eating just because it tastes good. Eat enough to make yourself full. Your body burns 1300 calories a day by sleeping I think. I've never been on diet programs before.

I'm 5'3'' and used to be 150lbs at the age of 16~17, but that was because my eating habits were bad and I drank soda often. Then, I got hooked to this video game called Dance Dance Revolution. I started to be more food conscious and stopped drinking soda and eating junk food and played DDR like mad everyday. Now I'm at 110lbs and 20 years old and still playing that video game. People didn't recognize me anymore which was funny. But you are right that metabolism is higher at a younger age.

Soda and junk food is a big killer. Get rid of those and it'll be easier. Oh, btw, swimming also helps a lot. I personally hate jogging, but prefer swimming because it tones our your entire body, especially that upper arm fat. ><;; Swimming also doesn't put pressure on your legs and feet.

No fast food also helps a lot, if you do have a cast of fast food cravings, grab the book "Fast Food Nation" and you don't be eating fast food for a while after reading that book. ><;;

I lost 90 lbs last year in about 7 months.

Wanna know how?

I got a job working at Cracker Barrel. In the Dish room. Dropped down to 210.

Ate lots of Fried food, cheese, Ice Cream, Brownies, Bacon, Biscuits, Steak and Eggs... Drank gallons ice Sweet Tea, Soda and Coffee.

One time I knew this girl that was about 350 lbs (6'0 tall) and she lost 200 lbs doing situps. No diet plan, no cutting back on anything.

She started out doing 20 situps a day, then moved to 50, then to 80, then to 100, and eventually to 200. 200 Situps a day...

She lost 200 lbs in less than 2 years.

Dieting is overrated. Little Debbie is my queen.

Well the 3 pounds is what she started out with for the first 2 months. I went back and checked my facts after I posted just so it didn't seem like I was making shit up. She said everything was true, but the pound droppage is lessening as she goes on as she gets closer to her ideal weight. She said she is now at around 1.7 pounds a week.

And Kat, this woman is over her 40's as well and has had 4 kids. Young at heart is all that matters

Shew, I'm not doin' so bad then. I believe the only thing I'm doin' different than her is she's kickboxing and I'm not. I'm "just" walking 3 times a week and then working out about 1-2 times a week at my parents.

My average weight loss per week is 1.4 lbs. When I first started the program, I was losing 2-4 lbs. a week also for the first month. Then it tapered off and now I've been consistently losing for the last 4 months 1.4 lbs. per week.

I started really thinkin' about the last two weeks after reading a lot of y'alls responses. I also remember something April (our WW's leader) said awhile back in one of the meetings. She said sometimes it'll take a week for a "gain" to show. The more I think about it, the more I think it was just from Thanksgiving. I'm hoping anyway. So far this week I've already lost over a pound and I don't weigh in 'til Tuesday. Sooooo ....

*crosses fingers*

Thanks again everyone for your input so far. I was worried no one would even reply. I've gotten some really awesome tips from this thread and I appreciate the people who've already posted and if anyone else wants to add to this thread, the more the merrier^^.

*Edit*

I just did my math to make sure I'm not lying. I've been in Weight Watchers for 23 weeks now. I've lost 31 lbs. as of last Tuesday. When you break that down, it comes out to 1.35 lbs. per week. Soooo, I'm not too shabby after all.

I figure with adding in Ranpha's awesome exercises I may be able to up that some. Again my goal is to get to 103 by the end of April now. Hopefully I can do it.
