Lost Odyssey official thread

Heh. There's only one person who can make me show any emotion and she does it quite often.

The dreams are some of the best short stories I've read in a long time. I love them all.

I've almost beat the game. I would have forever ago but I'm addicted to Naruto online play. I'm like rank 2300~ on there at the moment and moving up fast.

Go you! although your nothing till your in top 100 XD...But yes, i now have Sarah and the story is just getting more and more interesting. I am currently in the town with moving toys and chairs. I am not to sure why the heck it is like that but i am gonna find out!

Just some questions guys, again sorry for necro'ing....

I am on disc 3 and everyone has been split up, Gongora is a giant asshole, and Tolten and Sed have joined me. I am in the process of reuniting everyone, and was just wondering where is a good place to train up?

I am around 33-38ish depending on who it is XD so any help would be awesome

I just went back to this game to finish up achievements, maxing out skills, leveling characters higher and getting all the items and such.
Just got the new DLC so im gonna give that a go and get the new achivements, heard the final boss in that is a BITCH and the best strat requires level 80 immortals...man!

The american DLC is pretty much just a really really cool dream and a new key item. The JP only DLC is the one that has the new boss dungeon in it. It does *require* at least 80+ immortals to do it effectively, but if you did the Immortal battle in the Backyard that still holds the title for hardest LO fight easily.

(just clarifying about the DLC)

ummm no the US has that DLC too lol, i have both DLC

The name of the DLC is Dungeon of the Deep or something like that and is like 400 MSP

When did it come out? I just downloaded the extra content for LO a couple weeks ago? I'll have to check tomorrow for this DLC you speak of.

I'm on the start of Disk 4... and I have kinda lost interest.

At the moment, I am immersed in GTA IV. What a beautiful game!

I think I will pick this up at some point after MGS4 and before Resistance 2 and Gears of War 2.

That time seems wide open to start this game so I won't be tempted to to switch halfway through to something new. Hopefully by then there will be a price drop, not keen on paying $60 for something that's been out so long. Despite how god awful Blue Dragon is, still gotta give this a chance, if no other reason because very few JRPGs around and this seems to be the highest production value.

Yeah I faced that new boss and he kicked my ass. He isn't really any harder then the Immortal One; I just went in thinking I could take him with no strategy. I found out the hard way he isn't a push over. The item you get from beating him makes all skills and spells cost 1 MP so it is kind of worth it. Along with the 24 or 25 slot seeds you get in total from beating him and the dungeon in general.

This is a legit JRPG Fire. I was very impressed. Given there is nothing else for JRPGs at the moment on the newer consoles... I believe i still would have enjoyed this game.

The thing that just annoyed me a bit was having to pay for the new dungeon with microsoft points ; ;

Well worth the MS points, and the game i would say is more well done than eternal sonata, and i loved eternal sonata.

at least the expansions for LO so far, no matter how small, have been worth it and costed very little MS points. im still working on my 100% >.>

it doesnt really show you that you have a 100%, but i mean as in having all the achievements for character skills, levels, treasures found, backyard secret requirements completed etc would mean you have done everything you can, making it 100%, so achievements are the only way to tell. then with the expansion theres 100 points more to get, which leaves 150 more for future expansions or add ons.
so i guess you do get to re-100% it

I been playing this and it's a damn solid game, and I like that they actually make the boss battles challenging unlike most of the final fantasy bosses I can kill by repeatedly hitting the X button.

I do feel like it technically seems to be a little shaky. In that it wants to be just a little more game than the 360 can handle. The only reason I notice this is because it's basically trying to replicate itself as a high def version of Final Fantasy 10.

Now, dont' get me wrong... Final Fantasy 10 is my favorite video game, period. Not just my favorite Final Fantasy, favorite RPG, or favorite PS2 game... my favorite game ever. So a Final Fantasy 10 clone is going to be a great experience for me. At the same time... it's TOO much like it... beyond the point of celebrating it and to the point of ripping it off, like the way the camera moves in the battle screen... the way the characters move... well, damn near everything.

And by that measure, it's gonna get compared. And technically, it doesn't run as silky smooth as FFX ran, which is why it feels like it is either pushing the 360 too hard or it was a little rushed in development. I'm going to lean toward the second, because Mistwalker is churning out these games very quickly - which is probably why they're not very original.

Don't get me wrong, I'm being hard on it because I'm comparing it to my favorite game ever. It has a few edges on FFX. The most major being no freaking grid system to levelup. The second that it's harder. The third, I like using the right trigger, little timing game. And of course the sprint button deserves major props.

The story doesn't seem as good though. The characters aren't as likable, and the music isn't as good. I don't like how much of a scavenger hunt it is either, and how they severely gimp leveling up if you want to.

The problem here is it's so much like FFX that it's worse in comparison which is the only way I can actually rate it.

But... it's still the best RPG out on PS3/360/Wii by far. It's the only RPG that 10 years from now you'll go back and play again for fun. For a Final Fantasy fan it's a no brainer buy. I'm not gonna say it's Final Fantasy quality, but it's damn near it, and the closest we'll get until at least 2009.

I would maybe put this in my top 10 for RPGs.

For reference:

1) Final Fantasy 10
2) Suikoden 2
3) Final Fantasy 7
4) Final Fantasy 6
5) Lufia 2
6) Final Fantasy 9
7) Final Fantasy 4
8) Lufia 1
9) Suikoden 1
10) ??? I dunno... FF12, Robotrek, Pokemon, Suikoden 3... Lost Odyssey not quite there but around that level. If it didn't remind me TOO much of Final Fantasy 10, and it was a little smoother running I'd say give it to L.O... but this how I see it now.

For Reference, not counting action/rpgs in my list, no Kingdom hearts, ext.

Man fire i am glad to see this from you. I really felt this game was great and i can agree with you on most of your downsides to it. I would think they rushed it maybe a little because they had so much pressure on them. I would expect things to only go up from here with Mistwalker tho.
