lotting for looks = meh

As a NIN with Osode, I have to say that I think Hauby +1 would be just as good if not better for WS's... so imho I wouldn't even give NIN's Osode's... its just a money saver after using it for this long.

You can have all the STR in the world but if you lack Accuracy or Attack your sure hoping you get lucky everytime you use your WS, cuz most the time your not even going to be using the full potential of all that STR your stacking otherwise.

the jobs that would get the most use out of Osode would be Ranger, Bard, Bst

I'd put MNK 4th on the list

RNG has no other body piece that offers that much STR (and AGI, though AGI is not incredibly important), and defense (and with RNG low HP Pool + Cassie Earring, the 30 MP would convert to 30 HP), the only other body pieces for ranger that are comparable would be the cotehardie's and the JSE Body Armors, both of which are pretty shitty

Bard's use for Osode is obvious, the 30 MP, +10 VIT & High Defense for absorbing damage, and +10 CHR, nuff said

BST's use for Osode: See Bard, plus +10 STR (Although BST should carry Haubergeon/Hauberk/Byrnie for Melee damage, Osode isn't a great piece of gear for gaining TP as STR by itself with no Attack does little for your melee damage)

It's true that MNK get's a benefit from individual stats on the Osode, however in terms of damage output only, I'd put MNK behind RNG, as MNK's also have access to Shura Togi which IMO is a better meleeing body piece than Osode

NIN's use for Osode is uh... I guess macro swap for WS, though I'd personally rather use a Shura Togi or Koga Chainmail for meleeing, swap to Haubergeon(+1) for WS, as Osode has no accuracy, and Blade Jin/Blade Ku are both multi-hit weaponskills, Scorpion harness is better for an evade-build than Osode is, Byrnie/Haubergeon/Shura Togi/Koga Chainmail are all better for melee + WS gear than Osode also

At 75, when things con either IT+++++ or low VT (HNM vs exp), you either 1. never use MNK to melee (the IT+++++ case) but to chi blast or 2. don't need accuracy or attack cuz they're very low defense and evasion already anyway and that's where STR shines maxing out your damage output. In both cases, I would take osode for MNK and therefore agree with Skaw.

Skaw:

Because 20 Attack > 10 STR

You'll never cap out your attack on Exp/Merit or HNM monsters, STR by itself is garbage for meleeing, not to mention STR *can* reach a point of diminishing returns, attack is not affected by this

I thought I made that clear in my post

Oh, and 10 accuracy > 0 accuracy

I know monks love to use Meat when they're doing bones parties (and *Shudder* D.weapon/Statue parties), they may think they're accuracy is "Good enough", but in reality it usually never is

whoops

they're = their

No, again, seriously. What are you talking about? Exp/Merit I near-cap my attack frequently on VTs. I don't use that shitty ass sushi, if thats what you're considering when you're posting this gibberish.

Kalendor, you really don't know what you're talking about

VT mobs means you don't need attack? lol? I guess you've never partied with a bard before

Double Minuet + Meat has made it very clear to me that attack is very difficult (maybe impossible with current gear/food) to cap out on EXP mobs, this is made abundantly clear when a BRD uses Soul Voice in Merit PT's just for fun

So yeah, Attack >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> STR when meleeing for TP

see skaw, you're wrong here, you'll never cap your attack on VT's

ever

Oh yeah, Togi > Osode. Parsers lie. Enmity- hate stealing equially equipped monks with the only exception being body armor(and boots, Marines vs. Dunes) is the game playing tricks on me.

Holy shit.

Sure, a BRD's minuet (I'm a BRD, i know what it does btw) attack+ is a great boost, but +15 attack (STR+10 gives 5)? meh, not really, it's a negligible amount, 3% or so, ESPECIALLY when u have a BRD. Then again... why doesn't a MNK parse it and check uh? I'm willing to bet shura parses *at best* equal to osode on a MNK that has decent accuracy equip on VT, therefore definitely not worth it.

Also u're not a MNK and I'm willing to bet you use axe in exp, therefore not your best weapon, therefore you have less attack than a MNK(/WAR) has.

Everyone's basing their observation on a "feeling" here anyway. I don't know if skaw has shura to test with it, I'd be interested rather than just hearing "opinions".

Skaw I'm glad you responded like that, rather than throwing down insults like Firestreak usually does

But anyway, there are hundreds of posts on other forums who've tested this (as I have myself), where attack seemingly never caps out

In my personal opinion STR serves one main goal, and that's to increase weaponskill damage, sure it also affects (slightly) your melee damage, in that it gives you a "peak damage limit", but with the way attack works and fighting against any mob that will give you EXP, you'll never reach your STR's "Peak damage" sans critical hits, which makes STR in itself not very important while meleeing for TP, not as important as attack gear anyway

Anyway I remember having many of these 'discussions' with you in Valkyrs, and we'd always end up getting into a nasty arguement, so perhaps I'll just end this with agreeing to disagree :)

Kalendor, I use axe/sword, the absolute best combination that a 75WAR can use in a merit situation, where merit points are used

With warrior it's a little different with regards to gear, in my personal opinion it goes like this

Haste > Attack > Accuracy > STR

Oh and if you actually believe great axe is better in merit parties than Axe, well... I really don't have anything to tell you there, except you're very very wrong

Edit my above post: Axe/Sword, when you have a multi-hit sword equipped (Joyeuse or Ridill)

Because it's been done to death already, and Osode comes out on top.

This is not correct, I've seen parses where Togi wins, head to the KI MNK boards, I'm sure you can find quite a few of them

He hates me but.. Skaw is a freaking damned amazing Monk if I've ever heard of one.. I've NEVER heard so much praise about one person aside Darkrose or Kat.. so.. I think he MIGHT know a bit about the job's needs >.>;
