Lotting Money Drops

I have a few questions relative to lotting money drops. One pertains to me personally and the rest about the system itself. First, I’d like to introduce what happened to me and then ask if I was wrong thinking the way I did or not. Personally, I feel am justified in being angry and unsatisfied with my LS, but everyone else in the LS seems to think I am being greedy and unruly.

Note: I am not naming any names as I know people will be a little annoyed if I do, but the overall scenario is true.

About some time ago, the LS had found that Cerberus was up and unclaimed. A quick search of the area gave only a couple of people in the zone, not nearly enough to even attempt to take him and none of the names registered as maybe another LS scouting the spawn. Our LS organized and unfortunately, it was fairly early in the day, so not enough members were online to effectively take him. I got a WHM friend to come help and she did so willingly. We started to work away on Cerberus, but unfortunately, we wiped on the first attempt. Not enough people and we had a string of bad luck when we claimed.

Another group of people showed up and we decided it would be fine if we formed together to take down the NM. It had been decided that one member from our group and one from theirs would lot if Algol dropped. They would be allowed to keep the great sword for personal use. We did extremely well on the second attempt, getting Cerberus down to approximately 25%. However, at that time, he got off Gates of Hades which effectively wiped the entire alliance and Kaizen, who had been gathering since our second attempt, claimed not long after. Now we obviously didn’t get the Algol when if it dropped (it didn’t for Kaizen) and the LS member couldn’t lot it; however, he was still given the option to lot it.

Then about two weeks ago after a server update, I had gotten the LS interested in camping King Arthro. We had camped him before a couple of times with no real success, but we were hoping since there didn’t seem to be many people there, we would have a good chance. I was the first one at camp and logged there before the update telling the LS to please come camp with me. After the update, we got a lot of members to show up at which point the LS leader decided that a NIN would be allowed to lot the speed belt if we got the claim and drop. Another NIN showed up and he was also given the same option. Again, we didn’t claim and no drop, but the option was still there.

It was around this time, I figured I would ask if I could get something through the LS, something I had always wanted, but knew I couldn’t afford. I asked the LS and the LS leader directly if it was ok if I got the ToD of a specific NM, could we kill it and I would be allowed to lot the drop. Well, as you’d expect, he wanted to know what NM and I told him. I wanted to kill Overlord Bakgodek for the Juggernaut Axe and when I stated this in the LS, a warrior in the LS also stated his desire for this weapon. I said that since his warrior could use it, he should lot it, but he insisted if I got the ToD, I should lot. Well the leader said ok, but he was kind of iffy on his answer. So to be absolutely sure, I asked again making sure I got an exact answer and I did. It was a yes.

Fast forward about a week and I finally got my mule into Monastic Caverns. Took some work running safely from Bastok all the way to Davoi and then a lot more to get someone to actually help me get inside Monastic caverns. I spent about a week camping to get his ToD, but fortunately for me, my friend who finally helped me get into the spawn area knew his approximate window. When I woke up the next day, he spawn at about that time and I got his window. I kept updating his window for a week straight since he is the HQ of the Orcish Overlord and wouldn’t pop for 3-7 days. He popped a second time and I waited getting a new ToD each day. So one day, the only LS who had been camping him regularly, Quest Fantasy hadn’t been in the zone (I did a search and I assume Aspid’s window overlapped that particular day) and Orc Overlord was up and unclaimed. So to get a fresh ToD, I asked my LS for help. What do I get? Barraged with questions of why they should help and why should I be allowed to have the axe. Well I decided, at that time arguing with the members giving me trouble wasn’t worth the effort and since the LS leader wasn’t in the shell at the time, he would say it was ok since he had already stated it was. I then waited for Quest Fantasy to kill him for the new ToD.

Another day passes and I ask for help again, this time, I ask if I can get help to kill the NM for the next day and I wanted an exact answer if I could lot even though I had already been previously given a “yes”. The answer changed. It wasn’t a “no”. It definitely wasn’t a “yes” either. Instead of getting one answer, I get thirty different ones and not really answers as much as excuses why not to and questions about why they should. I tried to explain that the NIN were given the option to lot the speed belt, so I should be given the same chance. They didn’t want to hear it. I was asked my warriors level which at the time was level 60 which I am actively leveling and the axe was 70, they used it as a reason to not help me. They said I should be 70 at least to bother camping it. I tried to explain, I like getting gear early so when I do level, I can use it immediately and I had the ToD now and the LS can camp it now before the window is at a bad time and we can no longer camp it for a long time. No one and I mean no one listened. Then I got these replies which bothered me very much:

“We aren’t a HNM LS”
“We don’t camp HNM”

Well this was news to me. We camped KA. We attempted Cerberus. Those are all the actions of a HNM shell. Well maybe I was mistaken. But wait, we have a HNM section to our forums and to further that, we have two open threads entitled “HNM ToD” and Which HNM would you like to camp?”. The overall theme of the replies beyond we refuse to camp Bakgodek, ever, was since the item was expensive, they didn’t feel I should lot it. The value of the item came into their reason quite a bit so I believe and I am sure many will agree that it was the main reason people wouldn’t be so willing to help.

Well this just bothered me a lot. I have been with the LS about 2 months now since the formation of the shell and I’ve helped out every chance I can (excluding 1 time). I go to sky farming every time. I’ve been to all the god runs. I have yet to receive anything whether it is in the form of help or an actual item. This one time I asked for help, not only was I told no unanimously, I wasn’t even given the same treatment the other members were given. Some members were given the option to lot expensive money items (in both occasions, the items are worth far more than the axe) if we obtained them and I think if they are given the option so should I. So I got annoyed. Why should I be with a shell that puts certain members above others? I put in a lot of effort and try to help the shell with nothing to show for it and nothing will be shown from it. And for the record, I had given them my word I would both use the item and not leave the LS.

Now as for my questions: Should I be angry that I am not allowed to get the axe? Is wrong of me to expect my LS to help me like I did? Why or why not? Am I overreacting? And why?

Note: I have since left the shell and although this happened just before I left, it wasn’t the only reason for my departure. It just didn’t help the cause any.

And for my last part. The system of lotting money drops and allowing certain LS members to obtain the items seems, not flawed, but difficult to say the least (please don't use this as justification for your response, as far as I am concerned, once any member is or was given the chance, everyone should be). From my perspective you cannot satisfy everyone. If you an entire LS to camped one HNM, it would take a very long time to get everyone the same item and of course not everyone wants the same item. So then you need to camp multiple HNMs and even then, how do you consider it fair when one item may be cheaper than another? Then there are the people who leave before getting everyone their desired items. From what I have seen, it seems that when a LS chooses a lotting system like this, many members will get their items and leave before ever fully returning the favor given them. And there is what happened to me. People will help certain members at certain times and at others refuse to aid another member even if he or she has worked and earned that treatment (which I do believe I did, I had been with the shell longer than two of the members allowed to lot items).

So is a lotting system allowing members to obtain money items so flawed it won’t work? Has there ever been a shell that has actually done this and been successful in both obtaining members items and lasting as a shell? I’ve seen some shells with this system, but they did last very long since most members got their items and then left. Shells that sell the money drops among attending members seem to last far longer although they are also far more abundant, so it might just be that it seems that way, but in reality, both systems work equally.

I would also like also to state this is not a flame so don’t start with me. Yes, I am still annoyed at how things went down, but there is nothing I can do to fix it now nor would I have changed anything I did. I don’t feel I did anything particularly wrong with expecting to lot the axe especially after I was told I could and after other members were given a similar option. However, I will say this, it greatly bothers me that the responses from the entire LS were so vehemently against me and how the leader told me yes in the beginning, but changed his mind after I had already spent a lot of time camping for the ToD. It just doesn’t seem right to me that a LS would act like that without solid reasons (Something they didn’t give me when they said no, but more like they were fishing for reasons to give no). Maybe I was a little too angry when I asked it having known I was wasting my time and their responses were falling on deaf ears... or maybe it was the other way around.

I think you're in the wrong LS. Sounds like a group of jerks to me.. "Sure we can abuse this person but when they want help HA!"
Sorry I'd be gone so fast.. You worked to get ToD.. you did everything yourself.. Not only did you deserve the lot.. you should have been the ONLY person allowed to lot.. That's BS.. You are very right to be upset.

I don't care how the LS operates or anything, if you can do KA and Cerb for people, you can do any for anyone if the shell is capable.. let alone to change their answer? I'm sorry you had to deal with this crap but in all honesty I think you should llook for a shell that will benefit you as well, not just everyone else and let you stay high and dry.

Shells that allow members to lot money items can work.
Shells that sell money items and distribute the gil to members can work.

The key is the have the system set up so that the people contributing are rewarded (so that people will want to help even if they aren't getting the money or an item), and transparent enough so that everyone knows whats going on (ie whether an item will be lotted or sold) BEFORE the camp. There's nothing worse than expecting to be able to recieve an item and then finding out after it drops that it's going to be split and sold.

If the rules are clearly in place though, there should be no dramas at the camp... everyone should already know what is going to happen with any, and all drops.

If your linkshell does KA, and Cerb, and other HNMs like that, than it wouldn't exactly be considered an HNM LS, but it's definitely a part of the LS if it's in the forums, and you do other HNMs. I kind of find it ironic that people are willing to do the work for themselves, but not for others. In my opinion, you deserved to get help on Bakgodek. And good job on leaving the LS. I can probaly contemplate on other reasons why you may have left, seeing that the LS seemed to be wreaking with jerks and jackasses. It was also very smart and mature of you not to list names, or the LS's name. It just shows even more that you are still aware of other peoples' reputations, and are not stupid or mean enough to ruin someone's reputation of being someone their not. This reason, and for every other reason, you deserve the damn axe. lol. Good luck on finding another HNM LS that will help you out with this, 'cause I do know there are several of them recruitin in Jeuno. All well ends well.

Good luck

I will just give my opinion though it may not be worth much.
#1. If a Leader told you yes, then he/she should have not renigged.
#2 I assume everyone knew you were camping ToD for 2 weeks straight if there was mind changing on the leadership end, they should have communicated it to you so not to waste your time.
#3 Algol is RA/EX so it is hard to put a monetary value on it. Speed belt is far more expensive then Juggy.

With those things said, I would have never asked for a Juggy. Lvl 60 and asking for a Juggy. If I were leader I would have never said yes. Usually LS's camp things that will further the shell. If my LS was in the same position I would want it to go to a 75 WAR that went as WAR to all LS events and such.(which you seemed to share the same thoughts)

Though their excuses basically are BS excuses, you did camp the NM for 2 weeks which was very commendable, and if you had a high enough lvl I would feel inclined to come help and wouldnt have any problem letting you lot.

All in all, lvl 63 is the halfway point of exp. You theoretically arent even halfway done with WAR, thats why from the very begining you should have been told no, imo. Basically just my rambled thoughts.

(please keep in mind, I can easily relate to you. My war is 57 and I do plan on taking it to 75, but there is no way I would approach my LS to kill it for me and let me lot it until I was almost done exping it)

Actually, I am looking more for a dissenting opinion to the my argument. I understand completely why I was compelled to be angry and upset about the situation and have rationalized it to myself. I even tried rationalizing it to my LS, but they didn't want to hear it. What I am really looking for is how a linkshell would consider it from their perspective. Seeing as only a single person even offered help, it can't be uncommon for people to see it from the opposing perspective. Is it a money thing? A trust issue? What? I mean, I am the only one upset here, they have nothing to worry about. I am just another member in a sea of replaceable members.

Ooops. I thought it was only RARE. My mistake.

Oh, so many things I could add in, but they'd be irrelevant to the actual topic. All I can say is, it's absolutely idiotic that some LSes will reward new members over much, much older members just because they're brownnosers or something. Even worse when the person bails afte rgetting (x) item and people knew the person would and don't care. Puke.

It isn't money, since it is a RARE/EX drop, and trust should never be an issue in close LS's. It is really mostly pretaining to the level of your warrior, and the time spent. Low 60's for a warrior going for Juggernaut Axe is usually frowned upon. But that is still, a lame excuse when your leader told you yes. Also, time is spent fighting the mob. Some people just aren't patient enough to do it. And the way you described the LS, it really didn't seem like a true HNM LS. I mean, your LS did do KA, and Cerb, but that doesn't mean it's a true HNM LS that would go after Bakgodek and other similar bitch-NMs. So, of course they would have said no. They probaly didn't have time, or the right prerequisites to help you out.

Yes, but as I had explained, the possibility of getting another chance to camp Overlord Bakgodek could take a month to come around again. As it was his ToD was fairly early and only going early. Everytime Orcish Overlord or Overlord Bakgodek pops, they could go anywhere from 3 hours earlier or 15 mins later into the window. The opportunity was available now and he was at a very good time at which I knew a lot of members would be online to help. This is why I asked then. I didn't want to have to wait an entire month when it would only take me a short while to get level 70 to equip the axe (I've had 2 exp parties since and I am more than 1/2 through 62 now). I didn't and don't see any point to not getting the axe at this moment so I can continue leveling warrior uninterupted versus getting 70 to only have to wait or level without the axe while the window comes at another opportune moment. Even if the shell had said, that the first axe would go to the 75 warrior who could use it now and still offered to help me in the future that would have been slightly more acceptable. I wouldn't have entirely wasted my time camping and I wouldn't have to waste as much future time returning the favor since I had already done it. Instead, the options were no and never.

It wasn't like the axe would go to waste and I wasn't leveling the job. I had expressed a lot of interest in warrior as many of the linkshell members probably know. Before I started farming with the LS, I made it very clear that all the items I wanted were for warrior only and it was understood. I had spent a year with many of the members in a previous shell and recieved all the items I wanted for WHM and didn't need any more or at least any more from sky or HNMs.

And to the axe going to another member, I had offered to do so. There was a warrior and a BST in the LS whom might have had interest in the axe, but if they did, it would have been up to them to consider camping, not me. The warrior had stated as much, if I did the work to camp and get ToD, I deserved to lot more than he did and I agreed. Had he camped and got ToD, I would have helped him and hoped he had done the same. As it was I said, if he let me lot axe then, I would be more than willing to help him get one as well.

Juggy is a pretty rare axe. To say you wanted it before you can equip it is a pretty tough thing to do, unless you bought it. End-game equipment is just that, gear gotten from end-game. To simply have it before you can equip it would make you extremly fortunate.

From a LS perspective why would they want to give you a juggy? Given all your reasonings, though they may seem perfectly good, how could a LS justify giving somone who has a lvl 60 WAR a 20mill axe.
"Why give Lavi a 20mill axe when we can sell the axe and help equip Joeblow's job who brings it to all LS events."

They give you an axe, it does 0 imediate help to the LS besides make you happy and maybe frustrate other people that they didnt get a 20mill item. If its put towards somthingelse, or given to a 75 WAR, it helps immediatly. From a LS perspective thats how I would see it. And my LS perspective comes from my own LS where LS>individual.

Again I do say, the way you went about it was good. The moment the leader said yes, everything else all the jibber jabber I just typed, goes out the door. IMO once you promise somthing to someone from a Leadership position, you better damn well deliver, as soon as you renig your followers arent as loyal.

Lavi, grow up. You can be pissed off but why are you taking this into the public, your not naming names but you are certainly posting for no other reason to piss people off. If you really wanted that axe you should have leveled to 70 instead of camping ToD's on an NM with a rediculous spawn window.

Advice to board mod, watch this thread and be ready to lock/delete it, it is nothing but flame bate

What is it with promise breaking and endgame? This is the second thread since the fall of the flameboard about a LS leader who has no qualms breaking promises. They let you waste two weeks of your time under a promise they had no intention of keeping. Sounds pretty low. If I ever join an endgame shell, I think promise keeping is going to be what I check into first. There are so many decent, honorable people in endgame, that these threads shouldn't be as common as they are. I will say that whoever that warrior was who said "You got the ToD, so I have no right to lot" or whatever, is pretty stellar in my oppinion. More people should act with that kind of common decency. The game would be a better place.

lol, we were all waiting for this. anyway, yes a majority of us did not want to help you out. But before i go into the reasons, let me clarify something. There is no 1 leader to the shell. There are a number of leaders and usually we try to reach a consensus on what is going on. In this case, I know that a number of us had not even been told anything about either the speed belts or the juggernaut. Now, as to why we didnt want to help you:

Reason 1: you cant even use the item yet. Its that simple.

Reason 2: You had not come into the shell for a week, then you show up out of the blue to ask for help. Yes, yes, i know, people in the ls hurt your friends feelings or w/e, but you cant expect people to drop what they are doing to come help you out when you had been gone.

Reason 3: All you do is ask for stuff. Before you were told that the speed belts were to go to ninja's (which again, a number of us did not know about), you said you wanted people to camp the speed belt for you. Now you want a juggernaut. And an osode. That is over 200 million in items that you wanted us to get for you.

Now, you can dissect what i just wrote all you want b/c quite frankly it doesnt matter. No one in the ls cares. I hope you get into a shell of your liking that will give you everything you want and more. Good luck.

Ironic, you tell mod to watch it when you start out attacking me. Ironic, that you give me this excuse again and again, yet you don't deny the fact the LS clearly gave me both those excuses that I stated in the OP, and they are OBVIOUSLY contradicted by the LS forum. You even went as far as to say you didn't trust me to level to 70 on my warrior and use the axe. Instead it was possible, I would sell it, something I gave my word I wouldn't do. I didn't notice you say a thing when a DRK was going to lot the Algol, the DRK who had been in the shell far shorter than I had been and just came back from a 2 month hiatus which he never told anyone he was going on or would be on. So you trust him to stay, but not me? Or perhaps you trust the original NIN who was going to lot the belt? The same NIN, who is THF main by the way (NIN main would have benefitted the shell far more) and has been in 5+ different linkshells in the past year and quit and come back as many times. So you trust all those people and not me? So it IS a trust issue after all?

I gave all the reasons I needed to when I replied to etchdog200/Bigdaddy. I even told you as much before I left the shell, but no one cared. You just supplied me with excuses and never once tried to consider it from my perspective. Instead, I got a resounding no and a complete refusal to camp with me in the future which was and is evident from the "We aren't a HNM shell" and "we don't camp HNM" comments. Didn't see anyone saying that at Cerberus or KA though. I agree the window is a terrible thing, having to wait 3-7 days is a lot, but I was also the only one getting the window so I was doing ALL the work. I supplied the ToD on the later days when the chances were high that he would spawn. I only asked for a few hours from the shell and I didn't expect them to camp every day. Not a lot to ask when I continuously spend 4+ hours a week farming in sky with nothing to show for it or helping everytime we do pop NMs and not seeing a single item from it. I spent a minimum of 3 hours helping the LS every time we did an event, so how is asking for 3 hours of help different?

I should mention, just camping doesn't guarantee anything. You need to claim and as far as Overlord Bakgodek or any King goes, if you miss claim once, you have to wait 3-7 days for another chance. Just because I had ToD and got people to camp now, doesn't mean I will get it quickly nor does it mean any different in the future. I still have to work to get claim first and considering QuestFantasy is camping (they have a lockdown on that NM -.-), it will take a lot to get the axe. So starting now is better than starting later since it will take a long long time to get. I understand the mentality to pimp out a job already at level 75 and I do agree. It's a lot more fun to have it this way, but I like to do the same thing when I level other jobs as well and not just when I finally hit 75. I see people asking for help to get armors they won't be able to equip for a couple of levels. BLMs wanting help on a Moldie Earring or Shaman's Cloak. NINs and THFs with the Empress Pin and Bounding Boots. People are the same with AFs. So it's different because it's a money item? I don't see how when I never planned on selling it so you might as well have considered it EX.

Reason 2: I still went to farming that week and the pop NM. I hadn't been in the shell since because of constant harassment from other members. Also because it seems other members have a problem with a good friend of mine and like to both insult her and lie about her actions in my presence which greatly offends me. So why should I stay in a shell that purposely goes out of its way to make my presence unwelcome when I have a social shell that is a lot more hospitibal?

Reason 3: No, I never asked for a speed belt. It was a joke much like everyone who camped it and had day dreams of owning one. I can't say I didn't want it, but I also know, there are a lot more members who can make good use out of it. The same can be said of the axe, but the one warrior who could use it, offered to let me lot first if I spent the time camping. The LS leader and owner agreed so I got the ToD. All I do is ask for stuff? When? What have I recieved from the LS? I don't remember getting anything or asking for anything besides a minor pop NM on the way to kill a WS NM which took the group all of 5 mins to do.

Edit In: As for the Osode, I am dead last on the list for that particular item and so far the LS has made no progress towards getting one for anyone either. I made it clear when I joined the shell, all the items I wanted from the shell would be for my warrior only and I didn't mind waiting to get them since I am not at the level, but this one particular item is attainable now and the opportunity has presented itself. I don't know when it will again and if it will be so easy, but the LS just let it go. When a NM is up and available to camp with little to no competition, I like to go for it when it's very possible the next time people are able to camp, it won't be so easy.

I have to go with your LS on this one. If it was an EX axe that you camped the ToD on, then yeah, you shuold get lotting rights. But it isn't. It can be sold for lots of money. Letting the other war lot on it and not you is very wrong. As a matter of fact, if you camped the ToD, and they don't want to just let you have it outright, they should sell it and give you a larger cut of the gil.

The leader shouldn't have given you an answer at all untill he talked with other members about it. Particularly the ones that wanted to lot on it.

Something else to note. He'll pop again. There will always be the chance to kill it again. If I were in your position, I wouldn't be camping a NM to get a ToD so I could have an axe. I would be camping it to get a ToD so my linkshell could own him over and over again, get many axes. The first of which should go to whoever wants, and can use it, with subsequent axes going to whoever else wants it for reasons other than to sell.

Also, if you need the help of your linkshell, you aren't camping it for you. You are camping it for your linkshell in hopes you might get one eventually.

Lavi, no one goes out of their way to make u feel unwelcome. You are just being a pariah (sp). let me ask u, are you happy now that you arent in the ls? B/c that is all that matters. And you did say u wanted a speed belt in ls chat. If you were joking, i couldnt tell.

Hmm so LSmates can't be friends and spend a little while to help a fellow mate out with something? Lavi doesn't even like me but if she said she was 1whm shy of being able to take these I'd drop what I was doing and come help... Simple being a good person would be a nice change of pace.. It's not like it was mid-farming or mid-camping was it? Just downtime right?
