You don't need any *help* to get a ToD, just camp out there (or get yourself dragged along to help someone *else* get a Joyeuse, that's how I got ToD for my own, which I promptly got the next morning, then a friend of mine used my ToD to get one for his RDM that evening).
Joyeuse isn't really needed for BRD Maat. The point is to let Requiem (SV Requiem 6 +2, natch) kill him and to stay alive in the meantime. Soul Voice stacked Paeon 4 +2 and Paeon 5 +2 is uber (30 HP/tick ... or maybe it's 28 HP/tick, I dunno if Paeon 5 has bumped up 1 HP/tick by level 70). Skip the Ebony Harp +1 and you're losing a whopping 8 HP/tick (+2 per song times two songs, times two again for Soul Voice). Use Paeon 3 instead of Paeon 5 and you're losing 4 (or 2, if Paeon 5 hasn't increased yet) HP/tick. Throw on some au laits or at least Selbina Milk for good measure, and you're getting back about 100 HP every 10 seconds. If he has SV Carnage Elegy +2 on him, he probably won't be hurting you much faster than that (except when he uses WS), particularly if he stops to buff himself.
Maat's Finale sucks, because you have to spend time rebuffing yourself, and in that time you're neither doing melee damage nor able to react to a WS with medicine. However, that's only if his Finale hits a Paeon. The more buffs you have on, the greater the odds that his Finale will hit something else. Even if you don't care about regenerating HP, use some sort of HP regen drink *anyway* to give yourself a Regen buff. And while regenerating MP is *completely* pointless for a BRD without use of sub, use Pineapple Juice to give yourself a Refresh buff too. Hell, you could even chug a Reraiser - not like you'll actually *want* to reraise in the fight, and it's one more non-Paeon buff for him to hit.
I don't know if Finale'ing Maat's buffs will inspire him to rebuff himself sooner or not, but regardless, you want him to spend as much time buffing himself as possible (because if he's buffing, he's neither hitting you for damage nor getting WS TP by hitting you for damage ... though he's still getting WS TP by you hitting him, of course). So just Finale him whenever he buffs, whether it's a dangerous buff or not.
And, of course, wear suitable equipment (enough +accuracy to hit him decently: Life/Gleeman Belt is good, Optical Hat is good if you have one, skip snipers since they have -def; otherwise, wear armor with good defense such as carapace; don't worry much about CHR - Elegy and Requiem and Finale all land easily and Lullaby either won't land or will be unreliable under the best of circumstances), have your weapon of choice and evasion both skilled up to 190 or so (more, if you like - 200 is good for WS options for Sword and Staff), recast your buffs and debuffs before Soul Voice wears off ...
If you want to sleep up TP, it's up to you. Honestly, I wouldn't bother. Reputedly Maat becomes meaner the longer the fight goes on, and you're spending a lot of time sleeping TP for a relatively non-damaging WS. If you were a melee capable of pumping out a hugely damaging WS it'd be worthwhile, but you're a bard, and you're not, so screw it. Bring an Icarus Wing and self-skillchain the first time you have 100% TP.
Dagger: Cyclone > Cyclone
Sword: I forget if you can use EX WS against Maat (you do technically have a sub, it's just set to level 0). If you can, sub WAR or PLD or DRK and Red Lotus Blade > Vorpal Blade. If you can't, Fast Blade > Burning Blade.
Staff: If you can use EX WS, sub WAR, MNK, WHM, or PLD, and Earth Crusher > Earth Crusher. If you can't, Full Swing > Full Swing. Earth Crusher's better at 100%, plus it can't miss (unlike Full Swing). Full Swing can be quite impressive at 300% though.
Do NOT use a club. We suck at clubs and we get sucky melee-damage clubs to use. This should be obvious advice.
