1/6 Maat downed yesterday!

How I beat the old fart:
Lv.68 PLD
  • Went in nekkid
  • Buffed w/Protect III & Shell III
  • Yaguda Drink
  • Equipped: Espadon, Ryl. Guard's Shield, Phantom Tathlum, Scorpion Harness, All PLD AF excluding Body, Life Belt, Amemet Mantle, Drone Earrings, Phalanx Rings, Opo-Opo necklace.
  • Slept TP to 100% w/4 Sleeping Potions & Opo-Opo Necklace.
  • Replaced Opo-Opo necklace w/Ryl. Guard's Collar.
  • Yaguda Drink & Hedgehog Pie. From here on out... Yaguda Drinks would be used as soon as I noticed the effects were gone.
  • Flash from far distance, letting Maat come to me. Maat flashed back asap. Continued Flashes throughout the rest of the fight timed before Maat's attacks to be most effective or as soon as Maat flashed me.
  • After blindness gone, Vorpal Blade! Also whenever WS was ready used it immedately again (while not blinded).
  • Throughout the battle cured myself w/ONLY Cure IV. When low on MP & waiting for Yaguda Drinks to get my MP back up I used Hi-Potion after each melee attack (making sure I got some licks in), I brought 20 Hi-Potions, but only used 16.
  • Shield Bashed any Banish attempts by Maat when skill was available.
  • Maat used Invincible when he was down to 2/5 HP, Invincible doesn't increase his attack speed, so I just stood there & took it, flashed him when the ability was available, kept using my Hi-Potions.
  • Because of the previous attempt Maat used Asuran Fists when I got him near 1/10 HP I was saving my Invincible for that. Asuran Fists initiates so fast, you have to guess when he's gonna do it, before he does it. I didn't actually get to use Invincible or my Icarus Wing this fight, both of which I was saving for the end.
I do recommend creating macros for Cure IV, Yaguda Drink & Hi-Potion.
Kudos for statagy go to Nekoi, however I didn't use all the items on this attempt like the previous... No Vile Elixar, No Icarus Wing, No French named drink I can't remember the name of (last wierd named one in like a group of 4 in the AH, translates as "Unfair Advantage" I believe. Maybe Persikos or something.).
 
Grats Isotope. :nyam: PLD Maat fight sounds like a lot of trouble compared to others. The NIN one isn't even a challenge.
 
Ya, you gotta... well... mash him! Paladins... can't mash anything but potatoes. My 6th attempt cost about 400k in medicines, etc. I think I was just too nervous & too busy reading notes I made. I should have memorized all of the steps of the tactics given to me by Nekoi & just paid full visual attention to the fight, stuff should have been made 2nd nature to me as it was the 7th time around.

You really make me wanna level my PLD more, that hairset looks so good in blue armor ;-; goddamn Dunes parties..
 
lol sounds like mine Iso, I fought him 7 times before, and finally killed him on my 8th try and I didnt use any items except my Icarus Wing, that's it... lol, didnt even sleep too 100%, because I was just messing around with the fight, didnt heal once with an item, but I did find out that Souleater+Blood Weapon=per hit I was getting back over 300+ HP :D

besides just to really mess with the fates, I still had souleater active when my 2hr left, and I guillotined him for 1499 :) I almost died, but that hit alone took him down by at least 1/3 and it was enough to win, I laughed for about an hour afterwards because I spent over 1mil before on fighting him on 1-7 but on the last and final attempt I spent 20k and owned him :p

Ya :biggrin: I love Adaman, can't wait to slip into a full set, grab a blue sword & a ritter shield. Paladin is way fun & a very active job, however I sat between levels 61 & 63 for like 3 months, then decided to take a month's vacation from FFXI because of it. If your going to play PLD, SE let NIN take the spot light & for now we Paladins have to grit our teeth & work through it. The 2nd job I play & I rarely ever play it is NIN, currently lvl 37. I will say this though, based upon my experiences in that lvl range w/both jobs, the armor & weapons at your disposal, the overal look your character has, I like PLD better, it's the 1st job I'm taking to 75 & I'm sticking to my guns. Besides... NIN is just way too expensive a job. I'm taking NIN to 60, getting full NIN AF & leaving it there until further notice. After NIN I'm thinking I'll play one of these: WAR, MNK, THF, BLU/BUM (I wonder what blue mage will be...), COR.

I have seriously been wondering for a long time now what
Mishaela's signature says since it's been censored.... What most people think would probably be a good guess, but then.. ya never know..

Congrats!

PLD is a fun job to play. Probably my 2nd favorite job to play if I had the play time to grab the equipment. Blue Armor is always stylish too. Hope getting to 75 is a blast.

Ish's sig says biscuits... I bet it is biscuits... >_>
 
Congratz! Super Kitty Paladin! ^.^ Its always nice to see a fellow PLD beat that old hard ass to a pulp >.<! annoying bugger...
