Yeah, so I got WS'd and pwned by Maat on my first try. He successfully spanked me so hard that I cried... but still kinda liked it :nyam: . Anyways.... I need some help, idea's and opinions from you guys as to what I should do to win this fight. Because, well... I'm only good for another 20k XP until I cap my level and can gain no more. I like starting in partied for longer then that, time allowing, so... What do you guys think? I have 5 Hi-Potions, 2 super-potions and 3 Yagudo drinks currently. I used some Scallops food as well for the fight. I made macro's for everything as well. Did I just get unlucky and get Asuran Fisted and screwed 3 1/2 minutes in (1 1/2 remaining) or... what? Thanks guys, lemme know suggestions

Take a vile elixer(+1 if you want to spend the 10k more), some hi-ethers in with you for mp. Also, I'd highly recommend you wear a earth staff for the -damage taken, then macro in one of the wands with -spell interruption for your cures. If you have a nobles tunic or can borrow one, that will also help a lot. Plus, do not be afraid to use your 2hr, I lost my first attempt because I tried to save it.

Did you cast a debuff on maat at the start of the fight? I used either paralyze or slow, either would give you more time to be able to cure yourself between his attacks and is pretty helpful if it lands. I only did one cast at the start then saved my mp for cures. I think I also did 2x bat earring's with a blind potion for the +30 evasion(I gained about 10 levels of evasion skill on this fight too), use mp earrings first then put the bat earrings on if you go with that strategy.

I didn't do the blind potion or bat earrings. I'm done to like 30k -.-;; I landed paralyze and slow. I also had an earth staff equipped.

you should have won then, seems like just bad luck.

Hey Kotsu! I know I mentioned it to you before but part of Maat's fight is luck. So don't get discouraged. I used the evasion technique w/ him and it worked pretty well. A good mp/high def food is a very good thing, double bat earrings w/ blind potion item macro so you can pop them fast and keep moving, as Baj mentioned, earth staff does help, and of course your yag juices and or elixirs. I ended up not needing a vile elixir, but it would probably be in your best interests to have one for that just in case scenario. Basically I went in naked, then put on all my gear, cast all my buffs and rested up full. I cast paralyze on him which didn't stick for me (but man if it had, would have helped tremendously I think) but got the ball rolling and then I utilized that ring around Maat and stayed in motion most of the time. When he stopped to cast, I stopped to cure.

It took me three tries. The first, although I had read up a lot on it, I was nervous and made mistakes. The second was a combo of what you and baj mentioned: I got ws'd at a bad, bad moment then interrupted when I tried to cast a panicked cure and didn't use bene when I should have. My best advice is keep calm and confident. You've been doing this for how many levels now. Maat's really no different from any other nm-type mob. He has weaknesses. Don't let yourself get jittery because it's the level cap fight. Play smart. Pay attention to when he casts by looking at your log; don't even try to watch him, it doesn't matter where he is as long as you're away from him. If he's anywhere close to you he's going to nail you and you're going to know it. Cure mostly when he casts or when you're a good distance from him and don't be afraid to use bene in a pinch. Most of all, good luck and kick ass! You'll get him.

I just attempted my 4th try and I ran out of time it said. "Your time in the battlefield is up! Now exiting..." wtf... what exactly is the criteria to win???

To win Maat Whm, you have to take his beatings for 5 mins AKA from the time you engage with maat. So if you takes too long to rest and rebuff after you enter, you won't have enough time to "beat" him, or take the 5min beating.

The way i do it and how i help me friend is..
1. Macro all spells , mainly Cure 3,4 etc, Paralyna, Haste,Erase, DivineSpell,Benediction, Vile elixir macro if you have it
2. Do not use medicine that prevent you from casting for next few seconds to 1min , i think super potion did that.
3. Wear the highest Def gears you can find, Druid Rope is nice (the one with -% spell interuption), Bat earrings are a plus with blind potion, a phalanx ring and Cure ring, and of course Earth Staff.
4. Yagudo is a must, Hi-ether is nice but rememeber it takes sometime to use it.
5. Food wise, i used steamed crab or boiled crab (lol), any with +def is nice.
6. Go in with blink and stoneskin and usual buff, cast debuff on Maat only at start, don't bother renewing it during fight unless you have enough mp.
7. Don't melee, it gives him tp , so that's a no-no unless you are trying to use melee style to win him.
8. Use your divine Seal and benediction as needed, they are there for a reason.
9. Only erase or -na, stuff that will disturb you, like Dia or Paralyze.
10. Echo drop is a must... i hope i don't have to remind any mage job on this item, but just in case.. <.<

Remember, the WHM maat is not taking certain damage to win, it is to take maat beating for 5 min FROM the time you engage. So taking as little damage as you can is the best way to go. Remember not to buff and rest for too long when you go in.

On side note, i did bring both Vile and Vile+1, but didn't use both. I used DS and Benediction, and almost have to use Vile before maat gives up ;). I didn't use any kiting or special strategy, just go in, cast a spell so he walks to you and beats you up xD. There's a lot of chance for you to cure yourself since he use spells a lot. Best tip is : Don't be nervous, whm maat fight is funny... in my opinion xD.

Also, the spell interruption down from AF boots helps a lot. And like others said, don't be afraid to use Benediction.

Yeah, when he dropped me I was debating and well.. I did that you myself I guess.

Since I didn't have Fraps, this might be able to help you... I forgot to use my Blinding Potion on.

Yey i finally get to post something useful !!
im tarutaru Melee but i wanted to beat Maat as WHM so i could sell everything for whm and hang up the job >.> at 66 :)
but anyway heres the info on my fight:
(some of it may be gimp cause im cheap ;o, but im taru and i lived =P )

Gear
Full AF
Earth Staff
Survival Belt
Evasion Torque
Bat Earrings x2
Jesters Cape
Phalanx rings x2
Happy Egg

Meds
10 Hi-Potions
2 Yagudo Drinks
1 stack Mulsum (dont waste money on ethers >.>;; )
1 stack blinding potion (activated +15 evasion on each bat earring)
Food: Tavnazian taco
Hi-Elixer (just in case, doubt youll need it)
1 stack Echo Drops

Macros youll need
Cure 2-5 (cast so u dont die >.>;; )
Paralyna (hell cast paralyze on you)
Blink (try to cast when u have 1 hit left and cancel like on ninja)
Stoneskin (cast right after u cast Flash on him)
Aquaveil (cast when it wear off)
Flash (cast so u dont get hit before casting something with high castime)
Regen3 (cast if u have time, but not needed)
Erase (if he does Dia2 or higher)
Potion macro (/item "Hi-Potion" <me>, use if u need a cure FAST)
Echo macro (/item "Echo Drops" <me>. cast if silenced)
Mulsum macro (/item "Mulsum" <me>, like 25mp per, but its good and fast)
Blinding macro (/item blah blah, you blind potion will wear mid-fight)

tip
Dont Enguage cause u wont parry any of his attacks.
you wont hit him back and blink, stoneskin and Flash will keep his TP down so u might only take 1 WS the whole fight.
Keep HP at 60% plus, just in case u get interupted a few times.
Dont use pots just to use em, theyre "just in case" items (just bazar them later for 800g)
flip him off after u win and call him an old fart.

NOTE: i made video of the fight ill post it later on http://Poring.ff11blog.com

ah crap i forgot to add stuff.
i went in as WHM66/SAM1
make benediction macro too.
pop a yagudo drink when u start to heal up after u cast your buffs, so u dont run outa time.
and hell cast stoneskin on himself, i dunno why but he does, so u can use that time to use divine seal and whatever spell u want to use.

I still have the video of my win laying around somewhere if you really want it, PM me.
That being said, the best piece of advice I can give for WHM, or any Maat for that matter... When in doubt, ignore everyone else.
Yeah, it sounds odd, sure. You're the one playing the job. You've played it for 70 levels, you know the ins and outs of your own playstyle. You know what works for you, and what doesn't, and your own strengths and weaknesses. Think about those, and apply them to your goal. If a strategy seems like something that will work well for you, use it in whole or in part. Don't be afraid to use items, JAs, anything it will take to win.

Best of luck, WHM Maat was fun. ^^

(Didn't do the evasion stuff, I should add, I actually went in with EXP gear and some pots)

LOL Poring!! XD Loved the video.

Kotsu, if you need to borrow gear for this, let me know, I think I still have it laying around somewhere. I'll be IG later on this evening.

A relatively cheap trick (though most don't want to go through the effort to do such) is to bring a Miratete's Memoirs and enter at level 69, under 500 til levelup. Once you'd stalled him as long as you can and are out of MP, you can pop the scroll to levelup and get all your HP/MP back. A Vile or Vile +1 can be quite handy, but I'd hafto disagree with Baj about Hi-Ethers; they take too long to use and have an even longer "Ican'tdosh-!t" delay after use, which can cause stuff to go sour very quickly since you can't do anything for something like an entire 12seconds. Earth Staff can be pretty useful here but if you have capped Shield skill, using a Holy Shield with Jadagna can potentially give a better outcome.

In my opinion the biggest threat of this fight is if he gets off Haste; because of this, I always tried to engage him rather quickly. Makes his attacks easier to put cures between and such, y'know? Another thing I'd personally do it get some space between the two of you is he starts casting Banish/ga, since the time it'll take for him to run back to you will buy you a few seconds. If you catch him casting a long spell fast enough, you may be lucky enough to get Stoneskin or Regen back up before he starts pummeling you again as well. Many say not to use Regen, but I personally don't see any reason not to, it can be extremely helpful.

I wrote the in-depth stragegy on that page; it's what I did to beat him my first try at 66. Basically, wear Earth Staff and AF boots no matter what, as well as Bat Earrings and Blinding potions, and just go all out evasion other than that (though Druid's Rope is nice too for the spell interrupt -10%). That's what worked for me. Also, I still have my whole chatlog from my fight saved... lemme see if I can find it. Here we go:
