My girlfriend's macbook (laptop) is making a random beeping noise-- not too loud, just a soft beep that shouldn't be happening. I don't know squat about mac's and couldn't figure out what the issue could be. Does anyone know why it's doing this and what I may be able to do to fix it for her?

There is no where near enough information to give any sort of help.

Does it beep all the time or only when you do certain things?
Have you tried restarting?
Any other details would help a lot in solving your problem.

It just beeps randomly when it's sitting there. I'm not really even sure how to describe it. We leave it set up and every once in awhile it'll beep...and it's not a normal beep because it only recently started doing it.

It beeps even if we aren't using it, and it has been shut down and retstarted and still does it, so I'm not really sure how to approach the issue. I don't really have any other info that might help...this is all we know :\

It's hard to tell, I'm not really sure cause it's a laptop so the back of the computer is real small. The apple people tried to tell her that her hard drive was going to explode and not to turn it on without them charging her a shitload of money for all kinds of stuff, but that is clearly not the case.

The computer starts up okay and she says it just started beeping at her when she was on AIM earlier today. It has beeped a few times since she brought it here but hasn't done so all that frequently. I have no idea what could be causing it...

Well the apple people are actually right, in that its the hard drive making the noise. Its basically signaling its on its way out i suppose. If the machine is under warranty still, than they should be doing it free of charge (unless you go to one of *those* apple stores), but if it isn't under warranty anymore, than you will have a pretty big problem on your hands when the hard drive does go.

I suggest to start backing up now.

But all of this is just me speaking as the resident "mactard", but you know i wouldn't want to steer you wrong ana!

Haha okay Make thanks for the help. We got her an external hard drive and backed it up just in case. Unfortunately, her warranty ended last month so it just missed the cut off if the hard drive does actually go out :(
