Made-for-TV Star Wars movies?

Lucas told me he has seen all the summer movies since his company, Industrial Light and Magic, does most of the special effects. The only one they didn't work on was "Spider-Man 3." What did he think of it?

"It's silly. It's a silly movie," he said. "There just isn't much there. Once you take it all apart, there's not much story, is there?"

Well, it's not "Star Wars."

"People thought 'Star Wars' was silly, too," he added, with a wink. "But it wasn't."

Lucas, by the way, says he is readying "Clone Wars," an animated series for TV that's derived from "Star Wars." Many "Star Wars" characters appear in "Clone Wars," but voiced by other actors.

And here's a little news: Lucas tells me he will make two more live-action films based in the "Star Wars" era.

"But they won't have members of the Skywalker family as characters," he said. "They will be other people of that milieu."

The two extra films will also be made for TV and probably be an hour long each. But, like "Clone Wars," Lucas doesn't know where on TV they will land.

I dunno. On one hand it's good to see that something is happening with Star Wars. On the other, all recent Star Wars has been pretty awful, with the exception of that Cartoon Network mini-series. I can't remember the last time I watched a made-for-TV movie and thought, "That was great, I would watch that again." (OK, one time. NBC's The Odessey was pretty bitchin'.)

I dunno. It says it's not about the Skywalkers, so who knows. As long as it isn't called The Rise of Jar Jar or a buddy comedy featuring two retired stormtroopers, I'll probably end up watching it.

Those aren't "Films". Hour long each? On TV? Bastard is making Pilots and trying for a star wars TV series.....

It does feel very Pilot-y. And there were all those rumors he wanted to make a television series...
 
Yeah, I've heard rumors of a live-action series for some time now. It wouldn't surprise me at all if these 'films' get converted into episodes.

I really wish they'd do something set in the New Republic era. I'm pretty sick of the Clone Wars.
 
It's no rumor. Star WArs, the live-action television series is about Boba Fett and starring the kid who played him in Ep. II. (Who's older now and would fit the part better.) Rumors are that several small-screen-time Jedi will appear in it.
These will run as hour-long eps. on a currently unknown network. More info will be said during Celebration IV.
Also on Cartoon Network in 2008 there will be another Clone Wars series, done in CG by a Korean studio. 30-min long eps, 1 season is scripted so far.

I think that depends on what network picks it up. A Star Wars series on Sci-Fi or Showtime would be much better than a Star Wars series on the WB or Fox.
 
What they should do is try and link "Knights of the Old Republic" and the regular series. A show down between Revan and Jacen Solo would be amazing.
 
this has been in discussion since episode 2, rumor has had kevin smith as director for some time as well. dont know if that still stands.

I've always thought watching Bobba Fet bounty hunt would be an awesome TV series.
 
Idk what GL is thinking... If he really cared about his own universe he must know that the only way to make it all work again is to make a present/future time Star Wars Series. That way he can create new characters and even have Luke/Han/Leia/Lando/Palpatine(hesnotdeadlol) show up at 2hr episodes or season finales in the series.

It's sad when fans can think of better things for a series than it's creator. ; ;
 
Considering all the trade disputes and senate votes that drenched the prequel trilogy, Lucas should fire up the technology they use to draw the lines on the grass for televised football and use it to slather devil horns and goofy hair on C-SPAN. Nobody would notice the difference.
