I have to say this one, it's one of those things i picked up on in qufim as a mage. Casting spikes spells in party is DUMB. DUMB as a doornail. look at me, i blow 25 mp and the end result will be at best 2 damage to the mob!!!! with said MP you could just cast a real spell and blow a hole where the mobs face should be. spike are usable in valkurm or anywhere where tanking is horrendous but with a good party you just wasted MP.
 
I agree. They are really just a solo tool, like Phalanx, only even less useful in a party.
 
Any spikes spell in a party is a waste, no matter what yor job is. Unless your tank has a peice of equipment that gives him/her ice spikes, they why not? Otherwise, you waste MP.
 
There is really only one good use for spikes, and that's for
harassing low level parties (only if they really deserve it, please).

Spike up, cast a high cure on their tank and draw aggro, mob hits you and
takes damage, the party gets no xp.
 
Well, Shiva's Ice Spikes is useful in some situations (mainly vs. mandies or other mobs with insane attack speed), but only because it goes on the tank. Otherwise, it's a bad idea.
 
One use I see, and only one, is Shock Spikes if a NIN/BLM uses it, since it gives the enemy a (really) short stun, but still gives them a little extra time to get Utsusemi up~

Ice Spikes is nice on fast attack mobs.
 
Ya Pascal Ice spikes is friggin sweet while fighting Orcs.

Can't wait till I get Blaze Spikes at 70 from War Brais :twisted:

Sounds like some fun stuff, but I can't quite take the spanking from a KC just yet.

I don't use spikes in party as BLM, I only use it for soloing, keep ice spikes up, I don't have to worry about paralyzing, cause it always paralyzes.. at least for me it always does ^^ Shock spikes= utter waste of gil XD
 
Spikes are nice for 3 things, soloing, farming, and most importantly... skill ups.
