If you can't READ the signs on the road that are posted IN ENGLISH, then you shouldn't be driving.

Sounds like common sense to me.

I have to agree with this. The signs on the road aren't in another language, their in english. We're not gonna make signs in spanish or french or german or any other language, so learn how to read our language if you wanna drive.

But noooo! America should be about the people who WANT to live here someday not the people who are already here footin' the bills. That man should be hung for his racism.

I'd vote for him to be President, in a heart beat. I thoroughly enjoy what the YouTube community is doing to this man. They like to cut off his stances before he gets to the "But.." making him seem like a hypocrite.

makes perfect sense to me.

back when i took the test to get my license i had to pass the sign test, that included being able to READ the signs, they arn't in any other language on the road, so why should they be in any other language in the test?

The test should mirror reality. If they make foreign language signs, make foreign language tests. It is a waste to do anything else. I'm in favor of relaxing immigration policies, but I'm not in favor of wasting money on driving tests that don't correlate to the language of US driving. There are a lot more signs out there than the stop sign. English reading is a must. You should have to be competent in english to drive. I'd hate for a construction worker to get smashed to bits because somebody couldn't read the sign that said construction work ahead.

EDIT: I never had a sign test. I took a 20 question test on a computer and had to get at least 16 right. I got 19 right because of a maintenance question pertaining to exhaust systems. I'd prefer driving tests stick to driving, and leave the maintenance tests to mechanics. I can read any sign you throw at me, but I don't really care to know how to replace a muffler. Let someone who likes that sort of thing do it. I'd rather drink a coffee and sit down.

But if Drivers License testing was only in English, how would any Alabamian learn to drive? Fuckers speak moonspeak I swear to god.

Yes, we should relax policies we aren't even properly enforcing in the first place. I'll take a bag of whatever you have on the weekends.

Skaw, I think my "moonspeak" is pretty good ;) To my accredit though, I got out of there when I saw an opening. Yous a point doh, if yaz ta take sum that there travel time down der ya'll see we dont speek English rite prahpur. Hell, we gotta lurn it da rite whay on er on. My way of speak gets atrocious when I go back for a week or so to visit. Anyone around me often can tell at this point when I get back and how long I've been back in Dallas.

This is one of the points I tried making on the racial profiling thread. If you want to live, work, drive in this country, you should speak and understand the language.

Hey! I'm from Alabama and disparage my elocution at your own imminent peril!

(this translated through Babelfish from the Alabamese phrase, “Mayk fun o’ de way Ah tawk n Ah’ll whup ye ase!!”)

With all the fake southern accents going on in this thread I'm surprised I haven't seen one "ain't" yet. I currently live in Alabama but was raised a military brat, in mostly southern states, and I can put on and take off my accent like a glove.

Of course when I took my road test for my license here... I ran a red light and still got my license. But at least I took my test in english damnit! >.>

No way, GBB!

Whereabouts? I lived near Birmingham (near being very much a relative term, since there aren't really any other well-known landmarks), til I recently relocated to Maryland.

w00t, go MDers! <3

I have to agree with this ad though. I don't see the issue in forcing people to take a test in English if we have several IMPORTANT driving signs and whatnot in English as well...

Fuck Maryland.

Reauland, GBB, Strid; I lived in Montgomery for three years, and my grandparents have lived there since 1974.

Don't see the point in making people learn the English language. However, I do feel it should be pretty easy to learn a few words for signs in English. There can't be THAT many can there? But yeh, being able to read the few worded signs should be mandatory.

lol same here gbb, i honestly think the guy in the video is milking his southern accent just to endear southern folk with his southern drawl. I can turn mine on, but even when I turn mine off i still say ain't and ya'll. I grew up in kernersville NC, a really small town with more tobacco fields then people. I'd still live in bumfuck country over a busy city any day tho.

Just something about the laid back, slow moving atmosphere of small country towns I'll never grow tired off, and besides, I'd rather see rolling hills of farmland and woodland all around me then concrete and buildings.

yeah, ain't and ya'll are always apart of my extended vocabulary, but I have been told when I'm talking with my mother that I slip into a drawl that I am blissfully unaware of. It's about the only time I have one that I don't know that I'm doing it.

You don't even have to learn words. You just have to associate shapes and symbols with your own vocabulary. It's literally a thinly veiled racist campaign to garner votes in a largely racist state. You can say "MAKES SENSE TO ME!" but America being a melting pot country, rather than a homogeneous English-speaking, cream colored, Jesus idolating country makes sense to me. Yes, languages are a barrier. But so are tears and tantrums. Get over it, babies. People are allowed to be different than you.

Fuck Maryland.

My sentiments exactly.
