Xbox360 Mass Effect 2

so far, so good. It definitely play more like an fps than the original Mass Effect did. To be honest, I think it feels even more comfortable that way. At least on 360 it is.

I haven't read anyting about weapon upgrades but I hope you can have "extra ammo" upgrades at some point later in the game because with some guns, you're very light on ammo and since I suck at aiming I tend to use a lot of bullets xD. At least the ammo you find on the ground can be used for pretty much every "normal weapons" ^^.

Oh and yeah, the Normandy is upgradeable. This game is getting awesomer by the minutes lol.

I'm about 30 hours in, and I'm loving the game overall. I"ve been playing this every chance I get since I first got it; I haven't been gripped this hard by a game since Borderlands.

I hate the lack of equipment compared to the first game, I loved having two hundred or so guns/armor to pick from; but in this there's maybe 20 guns and I've found about 15 different pieces of armor total. Shops are useless once you buy the 2-4 things they offer, since they don't seem to resupply. I also don't care for them turning the different types of ammunition into powers, and for some reason, not everyone is trained to fire every type of bullet. It seems like filler since they took out most of the powers, but most of the powers in the first game sucked anyways. It's also annoying since I have to reactivate my ammo for each gun every time I land on a planet.

Still, even with my annoyance of the equipment system, the game is massively fun; they've improved the action quite a bit, and the paragon/renegade actions you can take during cut scenes(kinda like resident evil) can dramatically change the effect of the cut scene. Your party member is about to shoot someone, press RMB to stop them; or this guy's getting annoying and is useless to you, press LMB to shove him out the window of the ground hundreds of feet below. And you can work on both paragon/renegade points at the same time; it's a ton of fun.

Question for the masses:

What exactly matters from the first game to this one? I was in the process of running my Shepherd through multiple times to get every last free persuade/intimidate point. Do the skill points even carry over/matter, or do only the choices you make in the first game matter (i.e. save Ashley or Kaiden)? Does level even matter?

When you import your saved character, what exactly do you get?

Also, did they release the PC version at the same time?

PC version came out at the same time. Ugh fuck the planet scanning in the asshole. No really seriously. Shit sucks. I'm not far into the game as I just got the guys off Omega, did some crap on Citadel, and scanned a whole lot.

Also I know that decision you made do matter. The game defaults Kaiden's as the dead one.

stats wise, a single playthrew of me1 and assuming you are lv 50, you will start at lv 3. lv 60 (2nd playthrew) i think is lv 5, which is strong to start out as. Class/abilities dose not matter, you have to respec.

paragon/renegade points will effect the amount you get in ME2, i dont think its a exact amount=amount, but getting paragon/renegade points is easier this time around.

i started with 130k from my me1 save file, idk how much money i ended with. think you get 5k of all the minerals for completeing the survery missions in me1 (which isnt alot, cept for element zero which is hard to find)

pretty much every people you ran into in ME1 makes a cameo in person or in text. some more then others (i.e. conrad "the fan"; meet in person | the indian dude wanting his wife's body; sends a email taling about he owns some food store or something you cant goto since its on earth, which you STILL cant land on)

but yeah, it feels much more like a fps now. cover is a must, vantage points. Sniper rifles are OP due to time slowdown and headshots. Can accually be a fighter now, melee attack is suprisingly strong.

The scanning dose suck for a while. but soon you collect enough mats in missions you dont need to scour every planet.

Spoiler:
you get an upgrade to the scanner to increase the mouse sensitivity so you can scan more of the planet quicker.

Actually, it depends on if you're male or female. If you're male it's Kaiden, if you're female it's Ashley.

I played ME1 on 360 and got ME2 on PC, so I wasn't able to import my character and they made a lot of assumptions of how I played. I don't remember ever killing wrex, but they said I did; although I did let the council die so that at least followed through from the original game.

Anyone got good ideas for how to build an Adept (where to put my points) - so far I just dumped two into Warp and will wind up putting the next into that other slot I forget name of that unlocks the additional attributes. I'm making my character into an evil jedi type, using force powers as much as possible, minimizing melee/guns combat.

I'm Vanguard all the way. I love being able to combine two badass classes really. In the first, it was awesome to "throw" or "lift" something then blast with a Shotgun with Incendiary Rounds.

In this, Vanguard is even better. The speed boost into the middle of a pack of enemies is awesome, and of course Vanguard are awesome in Melee...so it's even better.

Put some in Singularity to unlock Shockwave. Shockwave is a great move to have when attacking enemies behind cover, it sends like a blast that travels on the ground towards the enemy, it goes through objects which is nice.

Warp is good to have for a lot of bosses and Singularity is nice because you can cast it down and guide enemies into it.

Man Vanguard is awesome, love it so far.

Game plays kind of like Gears of War now, but I loved Gears of War.

Still wish they would let you play any character of the three. Sometimes you just want to play another class here and there lol.

garrus 4 lyfe.

(always wanted to be him in ME1, so he was hardly ever on my team cuz i spec'd my guy just like his)

About 11 hours into the game and its asking me to put in disc 2, is this normal? Does it flip back and forth between discs?

Word is, the first few story missions are disc one, then you gotta change for the loyalty missions and some story missions. I'm fairly far, recruited all but 1 so far and I've been told towards the end of the game you go back to disc 1.

Oh and about playing like Garrus, later one when you do something in a certain place, you get to choose another specialization, I picked sniper training as a vanguard, so you can kind of be like Garrus

One thing I just noticed, is apparently you can have a different number of crew members to get. The number depends on your class, I think. My roommate is an infiltrator, and he can get 11 characters, I'm a soldier and I can only get 10. And there's total room for 12 characters, so it looks like there's some real variation in what you can do depending on what you pick in the beginning.

Edit: nevermind, it's just my roommate fucking with me, his 11th character came from a DLC pack.

Finished the game up on Normal today. This is a very good game man... The story was once again amazing for me. I started a New Game+ on Insanity difficulty and i can tell you this will not be an easy game on the final setting... Real large challenge.

I haven't had this much fun with a game since Fallout 3, and I frigging loved Fallout 3.
The amount of variation in each play through is staggering between past decisions, the order in which you recruit, the paragon/renegade mechanic, the paragon/renegade triggers during cut scenes.

The 1 thing holding this game back from being a total fucking masterpiece is the exploration and scanning for minerals. If they just made it into a more fun mini game this could be my game of the year, at least for last year it's a bit early to call it for 2010.

and the pron begins...

That's rule 34 for you right there.

The scanning "mini-game" isn't so bad if you've a mouse that can change it's dpi settings on the fly. At 2000dpi it's a lot more tolerable, and once I'm done, back to the normal settings to shoot things in the face.

I went with soldier, cause I like guns and shooting things. I wanted my Assault Rifle damnit. Although I think I'll have to replay it just to try out the other classes.

I am sooo glad I played though the first before MA2 released. Getting 5000 of each resource type, level 3 and 100000 credits at the beginning really helps (aka a level 50 1000000+ credits MA save). And I saved Wrex. Wrex is AWESOME.

In short, I'm loving this game.
