Xbox360 Mass Effect 2

finished my renegade run threw yesterday. lost kelly and the dlc guy, so i think i can live with that for me3

I lost Jack, since I sent her to take the crew back to the ship; and she still hated me since I sided with miranda.

From what I read, you had to leave immediately, as every side mission you went on you lost some crew members; you'll always be able to save Chakwas though.

Nah, you have a set number of side-missions you can complete before it's "too late." Hearing numbers between 1 and 3. Regardless, you're guaranteed to be able to do Legion's loyalty quest before messing up with the background crew members. The reason being is that if you don't complete Legion's loyalty mission, theres a significant chance he'll end up getting destroyed during the final sequence, effectively nullifying any reason to have included him and his contribution to ME3.

Also, I gotta give Bioware props. ME2 adds replayability to ME1, seeing as how romancing someone in 2 is supposed to cause bad things to happen in regards to your romance chosen in ME1, when you play ME3. So now I'm playing ME1, doing a no romance run, so I can not make enemies in ME3. I figure ME3 will do the same for both ME1 and 2.

Still gonna play my game where I romanced Tali, cheating on Liara, just to see what happens. I hope she doesn't stuff Tali in to a coffee cup like her threats to whatshisface.

Where did you guys read about the romancing in ME2 affecting the love interest from ME1 into ME3 (lol)

It mentions it in loading screens occasionally.

Underneath spoiler is the worst possible ending, not counting never making it to fight the Reaper. It's a real downer.

It would kinda rock if they ran with this ending as a possible storyline for ME3.

Man I don't know why people say Vanguard isn't good on Insanity. I'm doing my Insanity run, and the job just owns.

I think the problem is that people try to play it safe, or be cautious. But you have to play it on the edge. So if you're a defensive or cautious player play Sentinel or Soldier. I actually use Charge more on Insanity. You just have to stay on the offensive, even if you have pulsing screen, just keep going, you get your shield back everytime you charge.

Charge, shotgun, and you have to able to melee to finish people off. So get the weave that increases your melee damage by 50%

I've used Warp Ammo, Reave, Barrier as the binus skills with the advanced training, Warp Ammo is the best I think. But Reave was a surprise.

And the Samuel L Shepard is great lol. He should do the renegade Shepard voice, could you imagine him doing the.

"This store discriminates against humans" lol, would be classic.

I finally got my desktop upgraded so I could play the game.

Holy.... fucking... balls.

Wow.

Just Wow.

I really need to finish my complete runthrough of ME 1 so I can import my best character into ME2.

Burned through ME and ME2 over the last couple weeks.

Not bad. I had to radically adjust the way I played between ME and ME2 (Vanguard), but once I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed the new style.

Now I am impatient for ME3. The downside of clearing some of the backlog of games I've never played is that once I have, and am now caught up, I'm stuck waiting for the sequels... It's like picking up a book series that's halfway done...

Edit: Incidentally, shouldn't this be in the Multi-Platform section? o_o;

I've been taking on Insanity with my Soldier at a slower pace than my first run through...my teammates really aggravate me. Even when I point them to specific cover spots they still somehow manage to get themselves killed off and I end up having to slowly take out the opposition by myself... I'm dreading getting to the parts with Scions and Praetorians.

Saw this on Kotaku:

Hahah

They prolly just made their AI for normal difficulty, I bet they behave the exact same on Insanity. Something you can't do unless you want to resemble swiss cheese.

You really gotta babysit teammates on Insane. They generally only can take about half the damage you can, a lot less if you have all the Shepard only upgrades. Regardless of difficulty, the thing that changes is enemy aggression, their weapon damage, and how much damage they can take. Exceptions are Grunt, Jacob, and Legion, who have a bit better survival because of their specific upgrades/abilities. Praetorians aren't too hard, but Scions are nasty, especially in two parts of the game.
Spoiler:
The derelict collector ship, where you've got to kill 9~ collectors and two scions on the floating platforms, and the Collector base with the same situation before the final boss.

You really need to assemble your team for what you're going to be fighting on Insane. No more half-assing it by skipping out on biotics or engineer skills and going balls to the wall power Soldier/Zaeed/Grunt or other terrible for the situation group configurations. Barrier using enemies? You NEED Warp or Concussive shot, preferably Heavy versions of each. Heavy Mechs/Geth Primes? Overload, Overload, Overload. And don't be afraid to cheese skills like pull and throw comboing, or hacking synthetics and then running up and just meleeing them.

I'll tell you my Soldier build that's made Insane a lot more tolerable.

4/4 Hardened Adrenaline.
2/4 Concussive Shot
2/4 Disrupter Ammo
2/4 Incendiary Ammo
4/4 Improved Cryo Ammo
4/4 Shock Trooper
4/4 Geth Shielding, evolved to the one that gives +10% weapon damage.

At the start of each mission:
Sniper Rifle, set Incendiary Ammo.
Shotgun, set Disrupter Ammo.
Assault Rifle, set Cryo Ammo.

Cryo Ammo is a beast in Insane. It lasts it's full duration on most enemies, including minibosses like Heavy Mechs. Once an enemy is frozen, you can start hammering on another while you tell your teammates to finish off the one encased in ice. While useless against Barriers, Shields, and Armor, it basically negates health bars entirely. Improved Cryo Ammo almost always freezes in a single hit.

The only enemies I've seen come out of being frozen quickly are Vanguard class enemies. And always set cover to prevent flanking when applicable.

Thanks for the pointers. I've definitely been working the skill combinations. I was running through the level where you pick up Grunt last night and it was pretty fun to have Jacob Pull and follow it with Jack's Shockwave and watch the Krogan tank-breds go flying.

I hadn't ever messed with Cryo Ammo before, I should probably try and reallocate my skills whenever I get to that point that I have that upgrade option to try it out.

Cryo Ammo is really good for Husks. Sometimes it helps to be able to freeze them, or other enemies that swarm and melee you.

Having Miranda in the party helps too, make her a Cerberus officer and the attack bonus you get from her is noticeable. That and Warp Ammo is pretty good.

Vanguard on Insanity is an awesome adrenaline rush, you're always on the edge, have the pulsing screen up a lot. It's been great. By charging a lot, you keep the enemies line of fire moving constantly, and it helps keep teammates alive because when you stay in one spot they tend to walk out in the open in the line of fire and die lol.

The other abilities I've found useful are armor piercing rounds, and Reave is awesome, just awesome.

The problem is that Miranda's damage boost isn't as much of a help as just taking teammates who do better damage. Yes, your damage is significantly better, but your over-all squad damage is significantly better off just bringing Garrus with maxed out AP ammo/Tali with Assault Combat Drone/Samara with Heavy Reave, etc.

The main reason I take the damage boost is just the job class. If you're playing Vanguard on Insanity it comes down to your ability to kill enemies as quickly as possible.

You basically wait for them to spread out and take cover, charge one, shot gun to the head, melee and another shotgun blast if needed and then take the cover they were using or go on to the next one. But the job basically succeeds or fails with your ability to get quick kills.

What shotgun have you been using as Vanguard? I tried out that new DLC one and the time it takes between shots feels like forever. Although I've never tried out the Claymore since I picked up the MG in the ship so I don't know how good that one is either.

Sort of related...after beating the game and then running through it again, when you get to the part of the Collector ship where you can choose between the sniper rifle, the MG, and the shotgun...do you get to add another one of those to your collection or does it replace the one you picked up the first time?

Claymore. Like I said, you have to get quick kills. Claymore's one shot is good after charge, and you can usually finish off the enemy with melee attacks, if it isn't already dead lol.

The 2nd shotgun you get would do more damage overall I think because you get more rounds.

If you're playing the quick strike on Vanguard the Claymore is good, I haven't tried out the new shotgun yet, may do it this weekend.

As far as the collector ship I did a new game importing my first game on ME2, and it skipped that part I think. I don't even think I got to pick again, to change weapons if I wanted. You get your weapons from the first game when you start, so the choice has been made I think. But I know you don't get a second weapon.

I think I have a save at the start of that board, I'll check for sure though, but I don't remember getting a choice on the second playthrough.

Talking to Anderson with Legion in the party gives a neat little explanation as to why people on the Citadel aren't going nuts over a Geth walking in their space city.

He also calls Legion Shepard's..
Spoiler:
trophy bot.
