Since I didn't see a thread about this even though it's been a few days, and I was shocked. This travesty must be corrected.

Mass Effect 3
Next year.
Holy. Shit. Fuck. Yes.

Easy gift for my brother and a no question buy for me.

Cheers~

2011 will be a huge year for EA/BioWare's bottom line. In March Dragon Age 2 releases, sometime during 2011 Star Wars: The Old Republic will launch, and then at the end of the year Mass Effect 3 will launch. I wonder if they're going to take a chunk of that revenue and develop a new engine. Maybe they will revive the Baldur's Gate franchise with it...

So so pumped. Been playing the first mass effect recently. I still haven't got/played mass effect 2 but my brother said he'll grab it me for Christmas. I adored the first one so I can't wait to play the second one and then this one!

ME1 was good, ME2 was better. I can't wait for ME3

I just creamed and shit my pants at the same time. THE REAPERS ARE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah yes, 'reapers'. I thought we dismissed that claim.

Tentative release date for Holiday 2011, alongside Elder Scrolls V (11-11-11) and Uncharted 3 (11-1-11), among other games.
Wouldn't shock me if it got delayed, but hopefully won't.

If they release Mass Effect 2 & 3 on PS3 without ever giving them one, that'll be a travesty. The default choices made for ME2 if you don't import a character are atrocious, they really need to come to some sort of compromise.

I loved ME1 I thought it had he better story of the two, but the changes in the combat engine were awesome in ME2. I still play both on PC, which really makes the first game awesome, because the frame rate and load times on the XBox were horrible, it looks and plays great on PC.

Only thing I'll say is that I want some combination of my ME1 & ME2 team back. If I have to make a team again, the second game becomes a waste, I hope they make the last game all storyline from start to finish, there wasn't enough storyline in ME2, especially compared to the first game.

The only thing I disliked about ME2 was the Thermal Clip mechanic. While I liked not having to wait for my weapons to cool, I really wish they had kept it as they intended to where they were to be used to force cool overheated weapons. Insanity was a pain in the ass because battles were artificially harder and longer because the game made you rely more on abilities than guns due to how much more damage enemies could soak. So you just ended up sitting through cooldowns more than anything else.

Everything else was a massive improvement, from the rest of the combat system to Mark Meers voice acting.

They did, in fact, come to some sort of a compromise. They included a little comic book, of sorts, that opens Mass Effect 2 on PS3, which allows you to cover the story of Mass Effect and make all the major decisions for yourself. Actually releasing the game, sadly, is functionally impossible, since Microsoft controls the original, and the chances of them letting it go to Sony are somewhere between zero and... well... zero.

The thing I disliked about ME2 was the story just didn't flow to me. The first game was just one continuous story, and you picked up teammates as part of the story line. In ME2 you had collectors taking humans, investigate how they're tied to reapers, and stop the collectors. You had what 30+ missions in the game and maybe 7 had to do with this. You would be out going here and there and then you come back to the ship and have a message saying the illusive man wants to see you and they would force you back onto the storyline which seemed to be an after thought.

There was so much story in ME1 from meeting with Soveriegn, the meeting with Vigil, talking with the Rachni Queen, the Asari that was being controlled, you knew why stuff happened and had back story on everything. In ME2, none of this happened as it pertained the main storyline, your characters would ind of say what they think might have happened, but there was really no storyline. It focused a little too much on the team, which at the end of the day still felt like hired guns. I felt much closer to my ME1 squad.

Don't quote me on this, but I've been told from a friend that's a Asst. Manager at my local GameStop that ME2 for ps3 will also contain an HD version of ME1 with it.

It was released today, and I haven't heard any such thing. I think what he meant is the following:

We've talked briefly about the Interactive Comic. BioWare Edmonton (the group that made Mass Effect 2) teamed up with the fine folks at Dark Horse Comics to create an interactive backstory. While I can't release all the details about this yet, what I can tell you is that we want to create a stunning visual experience that not only tells the core story elements of Mass Effect 1, but also is fully interactive allowing you to be faced with some of the major choices which will have consequences your Mass Effect universe. This interactive comic's initial release will be exclusive to PS3 owners who would be otherwise unable to realize the full effect of choice in the Mass Effect universe and will be included on the Cerberus Network.

Well at least they gave PS3 people something. Still a shame they can't get the game, because ME2 just feels so much more personalized when you play the first game from the people you run into, the emails you get, some of the extra converstation choices, and the extra side missions you get. Besides the fact that ME1 was just a great game.

I don't know how detailed this backstory is going to be, but I assume the choices they get would be Wrex, Kaiden/Ashley, R.Queen, Council. But they need to show a video or something from the meetings with Soveriegn and Vigil or I would think people would be lost.

They really don't explain much of the history of reapers in the 2nd game at all. And they refer to Protheans as if you know their history already.

Thing is, they ARE hired guns, you just kinda end up getting a little close to them after their loyalty missions. They approached ME2 in a different way since as stated, you cant jump into a suicide mission while you have other shit holding you back from giving it your all. Without your team at its fullest, well, I wont spoil it here but yall who beat it know what could happen.

Remember that ME (much like a lot of BioWare games of its caliber) have a large library of facts and data as you discover codexes and such. You want back story and details, take a min or two and read (or have read to you) the codexes.

The thing I was saying is that in the first game the players were all tied to the story, you got them as part of the storyline so the story flowed. In this game the collectors and Harbinger are your main enemy, but you spend most of the game fighting mercs, and the main plot line becomes almost and after thought until you're forced back onto it. It started out good, Mordin was needed to make a counter measure, but then after that you were just sent fetching people, for what. Why do you need these people, what expertise makes them good for this mission, nothing. They could have easily made Jack the only escapee of the collectors (She would have still been without parents and scarred), Samara could have easily had a run in with collectors during her duties and offer some insight. But it was just fetching people for no reason.

Yeah you can read them, but again the first game did a good job of introducing squad members, telling the story, laying back story and flowed nicely, where ME2 was the opposite. I know I'd rather have a well written, well flowing game rather than having to refer the cliff notes. The first game was just laid out better, which was the point.

Yeah, it irritated the hell of out me in ME2 that I spend the entire game, pretty much, gathering up this crew of badasses, and then do like two missions with all of them.

That and ME2 went too far towards the "Shooter" side of the RPG/Shooter concept.
