How does one actually earn a good reputation? So far, I know a fair few people who're somewhat well known, but have no idea how they got there. I've kept up to date in equips, I've been consistently MBing since my first PT in Valkurm, and I've generally been a pretty good player. Unless faced with utter stupidity or rudeness, I've been pretty easy to get along with. I've gone out of my way to help people, too. I sometimes go PL people even if they don't ask for it. I'll try and help LS members when I'll can, and I give away free D2s whenever I'm asked for one.

And yet, I'd bet that, should you ask anyone besides people from the 2 LSs I've been in about me, and they'd say "Um...Who?"

How do you get there? Or am I destined for a life behind-the-scenes?

that person deserves a good punch in the face.

and baisicly to get a good reputation, just be a nice person. dont screw people, dont demand a reward for helping anyone, and always be nice to people who return the favor.

thats baisicly what i do, and i dont think, aside from Roofie and similar people, that i have a single person who "hates" me

Yeah, basically what Mara said, I built my Quetzacoatl fame by responding to random shouts as much as I could.
I have Hero status in Quetz now.

Other than what has been said before, I find that if you play your job to the best of your/its ability then people will recognize you as a great player and you will build a great reputation. I've become well liked by many of the people that I pt with have great things to say about me. I've gotten invited to well over 30 linkshells and if I join in, even if it is for a few days, I get introduced as "an awesome player". Now please don't take this as me having an ego but I'm just using myself as an example. The more you play, the better player you are, the better you'll be liked.

My oppinion: don't worry about it =P just do what you do and don't worry too much about how famous you get to be on the server. People getting to know you will be a side effect of what you do. If you actively try to get noticed, it would only make you a phony ;)

Don't try to become famous. just be yourself and the people nice enough to regocnize what you do are the people who you should have aquaintances with.

I was wondering this the other day as well, i do all you say above, i think i play my job as well as it can be played at my level, always help ls people, try to always post on here to relavant things

Although i think its working, as i had a guy from here message me ingame the other day and compliment me for my posts on here which i was pretty chuffed about :D

So what im gonna do is just keep doing what im doing and hopefully ill be up in the top leagues one day

You want to become well known in game? Become well known here. The upper crust of QCDN and the upper crust of Quetzalcoatl are largely the same, or at least there's a lot of overlap. You want to be well known here? Make a point of partying with the boards' big names. You can distinguish these people by browsing the "Who have you seen lately" thread in Good Times. It's a huge thread, but the handful of names featured repeat throughout. If someone found a /wave <t> in said player's general direction important enough to write a paragraph about, you can safely assume impressing that person with your great skill in a pt will have more effect on the community than impressing your average schmuck, but it won't save you any money on car insurance.

Awww...responding to shouts gets you that kind of status? What if I'm the one putting out shouts? I think I have Beggar status in Quetz...

Honestly, I'd say you should just party around, help out and just let it come. Really, I don't know what my reputation is in Quetz, but at least its a neutral one because my name isn't on the flameboard (which I'll check tomorrow for...).

Basically, try to pop on the Who have you seen in good times if you do see someone. That's how I notice people at least.

And really, for a good reputation, just be polite, a good player and help out. I would respect anyone who has all three. Do all of them and basically it should follow...

Also... on the PL issue, ya, it's really nice of you to be helpful, but PLing can have its own problems if the person doesn't adjust to their job before time...then we just end up with a noob in Qufim instead of the dunes.. :D

Doesn't sound like you want a "good reputation" because it already sounds like you have it. What you want is to be "famous" isn't it?

Meh I prefer a life behind the scenes I'd hate to be famous, which is why i'm not. If you want to be famous all you have to do is not stay within your own "niche" and start talking to more people. Make sure you talk to several "new people" everyday and make sure you make a "lasting impression".

Why do you think "colbwa", "Watchyourstep", or even "phraust" is so popular? Its not because they are "good" or "bad" but because they talk to so many, and they make "lasting impressions".

If you arent a Taru, delete your charecter, and make sure its a male red headed one, problem solved. Insta-fame.

But be yourself, dont let the humes punt you, and go down with the ship.

Your fame may come form any one of many angels.

It all depends on what you want ot be known for, or what you wish your legacy to be.

But If you just want to be known, generally:

/poke

It's as simple as that, just poke people you party with and read on the board.
Occasionally, Just say hello, acknowledge people.

Just be nice. And active and respectful, tag along.

Roofie made a lasting impression on Quetz. Doesn't matter what kind of impression, but it sure does last.
