Meeze was right.

Wow, I just got an idea. Imagine how quickly you could make money as a WHM doing tele's in jeuno if you didn't have any crystals. Send one party to where they are going. Disband. Then just invite more people. Hmmm, I might have to get a mule up to 42 and get the scrolls then just sit in jeuno all day and do that.

For me lately as my SMN(is 58 so should be similar stats to yours) I've been able to main heal and still spam BP as often as the timer is up. Perhaps I've been having some good tanks or you've been having some shitty ones? I got some trendy gear but all in all we both tarus and that's what matters most.

Oh, it can be done, there's no question. But when the other 5 people can't pull their weight even a quarter as well as I'd like them to, you're going to get the Cubs that doesn't give a shit about you. I mean, half the time I'm forced to Spring Water every 55 seconds or so because hate bounces around enough (even with THFs! WTF) to warrant a Curaga II once a minute instead of something more useful.

I'm too busy being pissed to write more on this, but the simple truth of the matter is that absolutely nobody I've partied with on my SMN since I took it back up to get to CoP cap levels (read: 55-57+) has a fucking ounce of skill or understanding of this game.

What the FUCK happened in the last four months?

BTW Mathias, if you're reading this, one of the main reasons nobody likes DRGs like you is because you wear a fucking WILLPOWER TORQUE when you XP. Also, if you want to hit things, wear some accuracy gear.

Wait wait, get this!

I was in a 38 level party, we were on our way to Gustav. I tele-holla. Our DRG stays behind. I'm like wtf? We ask him if he has the holla crystal. What's his reply?

"What's that and where can I get it?"

Made me crack up. Score one for DRGs!

I can do one better. :P

*You invite random level 57 WHM to join your party.*

*Random level 57 WHM joins your party.*

'Ok, we're gonna go to Cape Terrigan, so tele altep please.'

*Cue various assenting noises.*

*Random level 57 WHM starts casting Teleport-Altep.*

*Random level 57 WHM casts Teleport-Altep.*

*Party Member 1 disappears!*

*Party Member 2 disappears!*

*Party Member 3 disappears!*

*Party Member 4 disappears!*

*Party Member 6 disappears!*

...

*Random level 57 WHM is still at the Guide Stone in Jeuno.*

*Cue angry tirade by level 57 WHM, who doesn't know where Eastern Altepa Desert is.*

*Level 57 WHM has left your party.*

I shit you not, this happened about four months ago.

W.T.F.

Well that answered a question I had for a while now . . . Wasnt sure if you could even cast a teleport if you dont have crag >.< It bugged me but now I satisfied :P

I only killed dark knights that asked me to.

Summoner lacks identity for 70 levels. It's difficult to pickup party with one and go for the mid-high IT chain 5's without any forethought and practice. Staticwise, I could easily see it, but you have to invite them for what they are, and not for what you don't have. Summoners get invited for what the party doesn't have, and that's why it rarely works in pickups that the summoner doesn't create themselves.

I've never come across a capable setup that was incapable of getting things done because of stupidity. Ever. Pickup population is smarter than that. I've seen a thousand incapable setups wallow in incapability though. That's where the ignorance lies--not in game play ability but in decision making. The difference between great xp and poor xp isn't the net number of+1 gear the party wears. It's 95% decision making. What class of food do I eat? What will the skillchain be? Where do we go? Should I invite a summoner? Do I cast debilitators? Should I haste the meleers or reserve MP?

People know how to play their jobs, but don't know how to play with others. That's pretty much what it comes down to. Summoner is one of the more difficult jobs to play with.

Most of my partys have been moderate (3k~ h/r) but resulted in :
1. Me having to leave after 3k (I usually get pts 1hr before bedtime, woohoo...)
2. Full party wipe, spending 1 h/r waiting for someone to raise, Homepoint with no exp lossed or gained.
3. Get pissed off/do nothing wrong, get kicked out ("fuck u n00b"-Spirbirg <3). Give up partying for the rest of the day...

Lots more shit can happen, but at least I can sit down "healing" waiting for <call1> so I know when to stand up and MB (Thats what I do in shite partys, and just read QCDN / LS forums ^^;;)

Peace

People know how to play their jobs, but don't know how to play with others. That's pretty much what it comes down to. Summoner is one of the more difficult jobs to play with.

The problem with that is that most jobs ARE designed with a distinct purpose. Paladin and Ninja are tanks. They don't provoke every 30 seconds not because provoking is an ability designed for Paladins and Ninjas, they provoke because subbing warrior and provoking gives them clear purpose. They are that because it is what their abilities compliment the best.

Summoners don't main heal to be inferior WHMs. Just like Paladin's don't main tank to be inferior Warriors. They are simply jobs/subjob combinations that affectively allow them to fill a role in a party.

SMNs have a clearly defined role as far as I'm concerned, they are main healers that a geared less towards healing and more towards other support abilities. With a decent party simply throwing cure 3s out as needed should be able to handle the main healing duties and allow for bloodpacts which is the SMN advantage over WHM.

The next time you want to question that as SMN I don't have any clear purpose other than to "be summoner" consider your own job as THF. Attempt to be an effective thief without a skillchain partner or another party member to get hate. Clearly you'll find your own job as much as you want to just "be a thief" has a role in a party because it requires to take a certain position based on setup to be effective... e.g. Nin Blm, Blm, Brd, Whm, and Thf doesn't make the THF a very effective member. Just throwing a SMN into any random setup won't make them effective either.

I think you hit the nail on the head there. At least for the most part I think most everyone has a good idea what they are suppossed to be doing. Yes, there is the occiasional person that is utterly clueless.

I doubt myself more than I should, but I do so when I get into a party dynamic that I'm not familiar with. I have a pretty good understanding of all the jobs, but still don't know exactly how every single combination should interact.

I also pay way too much attention to the "leet" people that tell me I should be hitting for 100+ at lvl 47 drk against IT. I'm sure it is possible, but I've come to understand it is certaintly not the norm, or even above avarage, it is ubber. I can accept not being ubber. I don't have time to make the gill required to have the absolute best equipment available. Although I will say I am very close to it. Hell, even if I had the time I doubt I would be spending it farming, crafting, etc...

Anyway I think a lot of statements in this thread are exagerated. I highly doubt everyone in every party you get doesn't know what their doing but you. If that is the case, then you need to understand that not everyone has to know the wind velocity of a fart leaving from a mithra as she is traveling down hill towards running water. Some people can enjoy the game without making into a second job, or study session.

I'm sorry to double post, but I failed to say something that I've wanted to for a while.

A lot of you should be ashamed. You turned a game into yet one more place where people have to comply to near compelte conformity in order to be accepted. I can't help to think of the large amount of people who play this game, and other MMOs, that do so becuase they are not socially accepted. They find a place where they don't have to worry about their apprearance, or being perfect at everthing they do, and you elitest have to ruin it.

I have a wife, kid, and several friends, so the shit doesn't bother me. I played on b.net for years, and there is nothing FFXI can dish out that I haven't seen before, but a lot of people haven't.

I just ask that you be some what considerate towards other people's feeling when judging them. Rejection is a real mofo, even in a game.

There are games that are fairly customizable, if your preference is playing exactly how you feel, may I suggest the game Asheron's Call. I played it for several years, designed all my skills and starting stats.

FF on the other hand is designed as a game that requires intense specilization and team-play to be effective. Adaptability is good but only to the point you best serve the needs of your party. You can't simply whip out a sword, throw away your mage gear and treat a RDM like a full DD. If you wish to be a DD, the game allows for instant job change at your mog house allow you to play the job that best fits your style.

The 'clueless' factor gets more strict as the level increases. Do I expect a lowbie DRK to understand that Souleater + Last Resort + Voke isn't a good thing to do all the time? No. Do I expect a 58 DRK to know it? Yup. Do I expect people in the 50s to know where most of the zones are and at least two XP camps for the level? Yes.

Anyway I think a lot of statements in this thread are exagerated. I highly doubt everyone in every party you get doesn't know what their doing but you. I do ask, though, that the XP/hr ratio I got in the Jungles that I considered 'alright' is now considered 'great' (2-3k/hr) even though it takes 4-5x more XP to level now.

A lot of you should be ashamed. You turned a game into yet one more place where people have to comply to near compelte conformity in order to be accepted. Well, shit. Maybe we should let everyone run around as WAR/WHMs, RNG/DRGs and SMN/BLMs because we don't want to hurt anyone's FEELINGS.

Face it. This is a MMO where you're not just looking out for yourself. The actions (or in most cases, inactions) are not just affecting you. They're affecting the 5 other people who were unlucky enough to pick up a player who simply doesn't want to work towards the party's advancement. If you want to be a unique little snowflake, like Fire said, Asheron's Call is probably a better choice. Or World of Warcraft. And it's not like I'm amazingly upset if someone doesn't have all +1 gear or a Harness/Hauby/V.Cloak right when they ding. I'm upset when people come to parties with gear that's meaningless. When they bring their level 40 cap weapon to a party because they were just in Ballista and forgot to switch back/bring it at all. When it takes an extra half-hour to get to camp because someone can't spend 30k to safely get there or simply doesn't know the way. These are things that I used to forgive when it seemed the level 30 player base didn't know any better. Now it seems those level 30s have grown up a bit WITHOUT actually learning anything. I put a lot of that blame on people too unwilling or too scared to be a dick and let them know they're not pulling their weight.

I just ask that you be some what considerate towards other people's feeling when judging them. Rejection is a real mofo, even in a game.

And if they don't fuck up, they don't get their FEELINGS hurt. It's honestly not hard to put yourself at a competitive level in this game. And 'real life' has nothing to do with it. I have a job, relationships, everything else outside this game too. And somehow I still manage.

Ok, I completely understand that. I'm referring to the people that will kick somebody from a party becuase they make a mistake, or don't have their gear a bit gimped. I'm not referring to the people that show up with whm/drk and have blm gear. Those are the ones that are clueless.

My last statement doesn't apply to the majority of the people that posted on this thread, or on the game. I'm referring to the people that expect everyone to have the exact same gear, right at the exact lvl it is available, and heal exactly the same way, at the exact same time, etc....

It was a rant more than a direct repsonse to any given post. I understand the frustation that comes with dealing with complete retards. Retards are everywhere. In real life there are a lot more retards than in FFXI, which is sad.

What amazes me is that you guys are just now clearing the sleepies from your eyes and seeing that this game has become a toilet of stupidity and a swirling funnel of greed and lies?
How many of you out there can honestly say that you have good pickup pt's on a regular basis? This games major flaw (aside from a player controlled economy) is that xp requires other people to obtain. And when a large amount of the servers players are morons, that xp tends to be often times non-existant or in the red after some dumbass dies 3x on the way to camp and then pulls the "Oh Im sorry I have to go my Mom needs the CPU"
SE really never factored in the idea that the masses are lethargic and that a person is intelligent, but people are stupid. As a result, most of the good players with pride in thier play have either left the game, or xp in statics onry~
I am temporarily out of the game to RL issues (baby) and to tell you the truth, when I talk with Myimyi (RL friend) about her game time I roll my eyes and realize that I truly am missing absolutely nothing except the company of friends. Someone PM me when the game becomes fun and people start giving a shit about at least playing the game 1/2 way decent.

Coming from A) A Dragoon B) The same generation as teh current lvl 50's.

I'm sorry ; ;. Bleh. I feel your pain. Everytime I see a DRG I /check. I look at their level, their equipment, and sometimes, I die a little on the inside. It's amazing how a few people can fuck it over for the rest of us.

I apologzie for the horridness that are those I have probably level'd with throughout my DRG Career. I knew something was wrong when I carried 40% of a PT's DMG against things like beetles. I've come to accept, DRG just doesn't put out the same numbers as DRK for instance. We don't have the damage increasing abilities to. Least, I assume so, when I look at the possibilities post 60.Right now I can keep up or beat them usually.

So... a word to other Dragoons.

USE ACCURACY +. YOU HAVE A JOB TRAIT LIKE THAT BECAUSE YOU WERE MEANT OT HIT THE MOB. You can't do DMG if you CAN'T HIT IT.Not to mention, HITS = TP. TP = Skillchain. Properly Done Skillchain = PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN A PT. SO ONTO MY NEXT POINT,

And when you're PT wants Distortion, STFU, BUILD TP, AND OPEN DISTORTION. Penta Thrust isn't that glorious Vs. IT's anywho, OH NOES, 100 more DMG from your WS, which doesn't calculate up to the Magic Burst of a BLM. If you don't know which of your WS opens distortion, go change jobs, now, please. Save me the stress of catching crap for your stupidity.

FFXI Is about Team Work. Not an individual. If you can't handle that, go play WoW. I hear you can do whatever you want, and skill involves running in circles and jumping while clicking on a target.

Fancy Flash Game. =D <You can have this>

That is all.

Can you guys imagine what'll happen when we get the Xbox360 crowd? Not only will we have stupid 10-13 year olds running around... but these are 10-13 year olds that grew up playing HALO and GTA3.

Sad times indeed.

Oh what the fuck! I can't even walk into a thread out of general interest/curiosity without seeing a post from Peregrine, good lord he has to slip his 2 cents into everything!

What's wrong with Halo? :/

That's really all I can add to this thread, sorry... :/

Eh. I'm going to welcome Xbox 360 users, because, well I play Halo. I own an original Xbox. With the bad always comes good, so we shouldn't punish the good, just because:

OMGZ LOLZ U DO NUT PLAY ON PEE ES TOO. U R TEH SUK.

or OMGZ LOLZ U R NOT l337. PC iz da tru l337.

>.>;

unfortunately it doesn't stop there cubs, now-a-days i strictly play solo or i XP w/ people from my LS or in my drk static that is set up w/ me and 5 old friends of mine. The state of gimpedness that has become the norm of a mass of lvl 75's is rather frightening IMO. I was in an XP pt the other day on my rng and the PT was absolutely floored that i was doing 1.1k sidewinders on the low side, 1500 on the high side, extremely hard to accomplish. The thf that invited me had even asked if i was using gun xbow or archery and when i replied archery he said "Ok, you and me can SC light and the other rng can solo ws" the other guy was using gun. Not to mention the fact that i had to tell the other rng if he really wants to switch his gear around when he WS's he should use w. hands for normal ranged attacks and seiryu's kote for WS, since he had the 2 reversed. Give me streetz krono chronicles prade and toboe getting chain 20+ on weapons in the main entrance of ru'avitua any day. Quite frankly i don't see how you people put up with it

Between all the idiots/gilsellers/thankless assholes I might as well put in the "idiot" column/other crap they shove down your throat, it really isn't that great of a game anymore...

And with the XBox 360...we might get a few smart people, but at least 90% of the new people will be retards, and prices will get even more screwed...

Maybe I'll logon now and go solo some of those "even match" things that easily outpower me..
