HI ALL.. just some info.. i am a male taru and have after so many years of ffxi decided it is time to put my lil taru muscles to work and put magic aside for the time being. hehe..:shok:

i am currently leveling warrior at level 8 atm using great axe. my goal is to level my opened ninja job also once i hit 35 war. what do i need to know about partying my war, useful macros and equipment to help me get the most from my puny frame.

one important question i have for when i start to party is the provoke issue. when, also how do i macro when voke is ready again ( something like "recast")

im not looking for "you're a taru you dont melee" flames either since it took me over 2 years to convince myself to "klink" around in armor. please keep this productive. :banghead3:

for provoke what i do is after the intial macro line the next one i put is /wait 30 and then the next line i put /echo PROVOKE READY!!!!!! that way im not distracting the party with unneeded chat lines. as a taru war your going to want to get armor that offers the most defense. you might also wanna lay off the +atk items and not just go all out so you don't pull to much hate. make sure to have a balance of +atk +str +dex and possibly some +vit for the extra HP. when i can think of some more info ill let ya know but someone that has war lvl'd higher might be able to help out more than me

I refined my Voke macro somewhat with /recast slotted in at 15 and 30 seconds respectively.

Basically like this:
/echo Using Provoke on the <t>.
/wait 15
/recast "Provoke"
/wait 15
/recast "Provoke"

Since every now and then I get thrown completely off my rythm, having the 15 second reminder can be helpful, and using /recast instead of /echo means that the actual timer is reasonably accurate.

bah the way this game is made any race can play any job and excel.

good macro to have would be provoke macro
something like this

line 1> [witty chat line] come over here <t> (provoke)
line 2> /ja "Provoke" <t> [make sure capatal P]
line3> /wait 15
line4> 15 sec to (provoke)
line5> /wait 15
line6> (provoke) charged [or yet anouther witty chat line]

reason you want 15 secound break is because if you have 2 tanks which alot times you will in dunes and qufim that 15sec mrk is where he provokes then you provoke at his 15 sec till provoke.

and dont use <call> 1-4 boy i would love to shoot the person who put thoughs calls in.

from what Ive learned from my 56 pld lvls the /wait parts of the macro doesnt work if you hit another macro. what you should do is make the macro like this
/ja Provoke
/recast Provoke

/recast tells you excatly how much time is left b4 you can use it again the pt wont see it but youll know, Ive noticed the /recast timeer is 1-2 seconds off though. I reccomend using /recast on all your abilities also this will help you stay on top of them and nkow when there ready al the time

When you spam any /ja macro it shows the recast anyhow..

For when I tanked I used
/ja "Provoke" <t>
/wait 15
/echo Provoke @ 15
/wait 15
/echo Provoke!

For gear, you're a war, not a pld. You don't want vit so much. If you're gonna be subbing monk, you want a Voke macro, a Boost macro, and put boost in each WS macro if you like, I just hit one then the other.

Taru war are fine if geared right. Just stack up on Str and Dex. Rarely will you be asked to tank unless NOTHING else is available (common later, not early on) and even so it's easy enough. Just snag some good HP gear (your RSE is -insane- for HP...) Before that? if you have the wallet...
Level 10 should be Solid Mail and such, level 15 Kingdom Armor is nice with Solud Cuisses.. Level 24 you move to Chain, Emp Pin will help a LOT... 29, the Eisen is great.. then youre at the cross roads for /nin.. Then you move to +dex/+agi/+eva. ^^

Just keep your Axes capped too.

you're a taru, you don't melee.

note to make youself NOT look like a total retard. DO NOT put "/p Provoke at 15! "or "/p Provoke Ready!" anywhere in a macro. It just makes people want to kill you.

Very true. If you're tanking WAR/MNK, you're going to want to hit a Boost or two between 'vokes, so there goes your timer. Provoke-Boost-Boost-Provoke is very nice for keeping hate.

Parties with more than 1 tank would beg to differ. Also, some people will use certain abilities or spells and time it so Provoke is ready right after their usage. Kinda hard to know when Provoke is ready if there is no party line giving at leats the 15 second warning.

I use:

/ja "Provoke" <t>
/wait 15
/p Provoke in 15!
/wait 15
/echo Provoke Ready!

in my opinion the "voke almost ready" and "voke ready" chat lines are just clutter.

yes, some jobs do time abilities and spells to coincide with the availability of a voke, but after a few levels most ppl keep track of the tanks voke on their own; its only 30 seconds. it may still be good for low level PTs or newb PTs, but when im taking my third job thrugh Qufim, ill remember you voked just 20 seconds ago.

my NIN is 50 and kept the reminder lines in there as /echo, but know this: if you use another macro before the voke macro is over (reminders and all) you will cancel the rest of the voke macro; meaning you wont get the reminder lines. so in the end, unless the voke macro is the only one you use, its better to keep track of your vokes in your head.

I dunno.. I think Taru paladins in full AF gear are the cutest! Right next to Taru dragoon in full purple & a dragon bigger than they are... Just soo adorable.. but taru in full war af..might scare me... I dunno... taru in midrifs? /(>_<)\ My mind can't handle it...

I've learned a lot more about hate control since I took up paladin, but I took WAR to 42 first, and there's a lot to do as a WAR too, even if you're not tanking. A tanks best friend is a war who knows how to do hate control. You obviously have Provoke, but using provoke has to potential of messing up the whole hate control, and then you have a wondering mob. But using Berserk or Defender or whatever to just barly turn the mob away from mages on command is the most useful. There are lots of abilities that do this, including just doing a lotta damage at once. It keeps the mob still and lets the tank get hate back in due course. But be ready to turn your back and take damage until the tank can get hate back if necessary.

Personally, I macro'd Provoke and ranged attack. Warrior gets to use the most fun bolts, like blind, acid and poison. All of which are fairly useful to debuff the mob while fighting. And holy bolts are my favorite...turns the mob pretty colours when they hit. But any ability macro you have, like everyone said, just use the /recast command. Just remember that once you hit another macro, it will mess up the other /wait macros you might have running. And dont forget the /echo command... it gives you lots of visual clues without cluttering up other's chat window.

As warrior has been my primary job since I started, I will add my two cents.

First off, my Provoke Macro:

/ja "Provoke" <t>

Plain and simple. I have so many other macros I use that its pointless to make it any longer, as it will be cancelled out.

Tanking:

Talk with the main party healer before hand. I tell them to heal me when they feel they need to, and if they run low on MP, to recharge and let me get hit until im in the low yellow, high orange. (This does NOT work if the mob you are facing has an extremely damaging TP attack.)

Generally Im working with another tank, so if I do get that low, they will voke it off me anyways, but make sure you give your mages some chance to recharge if they need it. You have to be willing to take hits.

Usually its not a good idea to sub a mage job with warrior, because warrior does not provide any MP at all. I did sub RDM with my WAR and that seemed to work for a while when I was soloing, but not good for higher level parties.

Utsusemi is your friend if you sub NIN (or if NIN is your main) and remember that your spells (Huton, Suiton, etc.) not only deal elemental damage, but also lower resistance to other elements, so coordinate with your BLM accordingly.

Im in a rush but I hope some of this helps.

Personally I like to use <stnpc> over <t> in all my macros. Its one extra enter to select the target, but it also lets you tab to another mob you want. An example would be your puller got a link/agro and mid battle you want to provoke the link and not current target, in this case you can press your macro, tab to the mob you want, & press enter.

Yes yes yes yes and yes! All good points, and a single-line Provoke macro is all anybody should use.

Why use one line? Because you can hit it whenever you need to see if Provoke is back up, and you'll get the wierd purple text saying how long it is until next use if it's down, and it'll use it if it's back up. Now if you wanna check the recast without triggering provoke, Ctrl-J. Now as to <t> vs <stnpc>, that's more personal choice. <t> leaves you unable to handle links without going into the JA menu and selecting it manually, while <stnpc> will very occasionally lead to mistargets.

And for the levels that you sub MNK, make a /ja "Boost" <me> macro, and spam that while Provoke is down. Provoke every 30 seconds, Boost every 15, you generate so much hate that you could probably tank disengaged, not that you'd want to.

For subbing NIN, just hide behind those shadows as long as you can.

THF sub, put down the axes, pick up the Great Axe, and think like a DRK. Except for the emo bit. Great DD before 55 (when axes get Rampage), and still good after.

I prefer using <bt> over <t>. I try to keep the "Provoke ready in 15 seconds" and "Provoke ready" out of party chat unless somebody gets an attitude and thinks I am not provoking every 30 seconds. If somebody mouths off saying I wasn't "doing my job" then I take it out of echo and put it into /p .

/shrug

If you do go War/Mnk and are tanking remember to use your defender and berserk as hate gainers. There are times in which I will use the skill and then cancel it simply to pin hate on me more.

If you can afford it carry an atk and tanking set of gear so you can be flexible in parties. Also carry atk and def food and maybe some acc food at higher levels. Most of all have fun. Tanking is a blast.

My provoke macro includes /p {Provoke} ~<t>~, I use it for claiming too.

I use my JA list (i love you ctrl j, please marry me) to check timers... don't need to spam the macro to check.
