Just wanted to pose a question to everyone out there. I've been having a hard time getting parties on my Samurai and it's got me wondering, what gives? Personally I think I do pretty good damage as far as DDs go and I have war, thf, nin, rng subjobs depending upon what the party wants. Yet it seems like whenever I seek or try to build merit parties that it takes me 3 hours or more to get one started.

I'm wondering if anyone else is having this problem or if it's just that Samurai really is that undesirable these days? I shudder to think that I'm doomed to have to set aside 5 hours or more at a stretch to get some decent xp in.

On a related note, I had a party break up the other day because Caederva Mire and Bhaflau Thickets got too crowded and they said they'd rather wait another several hours for a party than to go somewhere else. Does that logic make sense to anyone?

I was in a merit party with 2 samurai the other day(I was whm), we pulled in about 6-7k an hour at a crowded Mamool Ja staging point. Samurai generally aren't party of the cannon setup, people who cannon generally want war, mnk or nin's as DD jobs, because they get TP fast whlie dishing out large amounts of damage in the process; where as some of the other DD jobs are more about powerful weaponskills than DoT. I think if you want to get invites fast, you have to build the parties yourself, you can include a blm and a pld since they're often left out of the merit scene too.

greg man you see me on seeking hit me up and ill get you xp ;p

it's not a matter of sam sucking, i think it'd be a wicked job to level personally but the big issues here are the jobs that are popular right now and not conducive to the needs of party formation as noted by a distinct lack of several key jobs vital to parties.
The second part is it's not that sam is bad for the mobs you're fighting it's that as monk 69 with blunt weapons i out-parsed a decked out sam 3 levels above me on these mobs, Piercing can give you an edge for invites. i hope your polearm is ready...

What about bard? How do they do in the merit scene?
Very well. lol :nyam: Probably one of the most sought after MeritPT jobs.

when you can give a 24% haste and a 3 mp refresh and pull and sleep mob so the melee are never not attacking and hitting chain 50~150 They are wanted lol

Job most wanted in Merits in new Area

Bard
Whm
War
Monk
Nin
Rdm

Beside I did a merit with 2 sam + 1 thf + Whm + bard + me (monk) and it is was good and fun. if people know their jobs I would take anyone in meriting wiht me. I will not decline an invitation of merit if I am looking even with a normal Setup party with tank.

with the sam + thf party I parsed it and that was
Monk 28%
Sam 1 24%
Sam 2 21%
Thf 18%

I was /nin as they were /war and thf but still pretty close from me.

THF are nice in caedarva mire, sneak attack + weaponskill will break Imp's horns that they use for the AOE silence/AOE JA+WS break abilities

you can break their horns without a THF, but it's much more random

I would challenge virtually ANY DD on this server to out TP a SAM, Gregedor in particular. I partied with him for 75 levels, and I don't think any but the best DDs on Quetz could weaponskill 2-3 times per fight for the amount of damage he lands with Kasha and Gekko. Yes, Dual Wield is brokenly good, but at the same time consider the amout of TP+ items and job traits a SAM has at lv 75, not to mention the added effects each one of their weaponskills deals to the mob.

Think about a war in a jugernut/ridill (had 2 last night same party) they can out DD any job and at 74 they take no damage

Now if only that party had a decent brd....

a typical fight lasts under 40 seconds. you need a job that hits fast and hard and fast. yes, i said fast twice and i meant hard as in HARD. I wouldn't venture to say this is a challenge of gregador in particular but people don't usually search for specific jobs for melee... normally they just do a /sea all inv 73-75 and do a.... Well, i'm fighting imps and flies in caedarva.... so i want piercing and anything ownage as i can get.... ok.. what's looking... here's what i see

Nin
i'm cocky and arrogant, i lay out great dps, i can tank pretty good and hell, with a bard dual march and the right gear i can get my delay to effective 0.
sry, this is personal commentary, still in awe of someone i know...

Pld
god... just invite me... you love to have me die for you in the endgame but you won't exp with me now? i can keep hate like mad. if you don't, when you pull hate on Byakko i'm waiting till you die before i voke.

Whm
Well, i got a pld, gotta get a whm...

Drg
I get damage bonuses on what you want to fight in ToAU! inv me!

Sam
Well, they SC well but we're freestyle WS'ing and their DPS meleeing isn't great.

Blm
Too slow to really keep up with a roaming party in caed's needs.

Drk
I can dish out enough damage in ten seconds to kill a mob... if i hit it.

Rng
I can blow off 2500-3500 DMG per slug /war with mah Ebow... these things only have like... 4k hp...

Rdm
must have.... refresh....

Brd
Well, you won't see a bard seeking but.... hypothetically makes everyone like 50% more effective

Mnk 75 Well known fact that monk is ownage, not the MOST effective for these mobs to be honest but you see it and you invite it. they have high attack, lotsa str, they can pimp out in haste for wicked TP...

War (/nin)
This guy has Utsu, he could tank these if need be and he hits HARD

Smn
He's limited in these types of party by both MP and bloodpact recast.. when you're killing a mob every 30 seconds smn can fall behind. may get as a healer if they'll take it.

Bst
Anyone who's pt'd with a bst before will jump on this. bst/nin is pretty sic. Pets make awesome dps.

Thf
i'm fat... and slow... but some ninja's still dream of keeping hate so they might inv me.

Cor/blu/pup common view is.. uh... what role do i take you in? i'm still not sure how you contribute to my party... can i take a cor instead of a bard? is a blu a melee or a healer or a DD or a random support char.... pup? wtf? how did you get to 75? i thought i left you bleeding out in the sand in valkurm...

I hope i didn';t miss anyone.. important. >.>

That made me laugh a bit, nice chaos esp the rdm part and im suprised ppl think that about bst now, i thought people still believed that they hurt exp

Ask the cor what die he has, and if he has the exp one, at least then he is in.

Cor=another Brd, everthing else that brd doesn't do or just does well like a brd

They do for the most part. People willing to give them a shot are the minority. Not that I as a BST care. After 55 levels with just one taru at my side, I really have no interest in taking it into a traditional party situation. I'm sure some BSTs would jump at the chance though.

The only way i see a war/nin getting tp faster then a sam is if the war has
woodville's axe or maneater in main and kraken club in offhand.

Read the rest of the sentance that you quoted. Here it is:

Getting TP fast isn't what I was talking about, I was talking about large DoT numbers in the process of getting TP quickly, which Samurai doesn't fall into. Later on in the sentance I specify further with jobs who's damage is mainly from weapon skills, which is SAMURAI, DRK, Thf, rng and jobs who's damage is mainly from the DoT while they're building TP for a WS, mnk, nin, war, drg.

I never said or implied that sam's gained TP slow, with a soboro or meditate no job can touch a sam's TP gain. The rest of the sentance is important, please read it.

be tugi and KC lol tugi is fastest axe and ask jinshorty a rampage of 1k every 10-20 secs

Often when I try to merit there's just no invite, regardless of if I seek Nin, Whm or Blm.(I don't really try as PLD for Merits) Sometimes there's just no BRDs and RDMs out there so no party can exist.

brd + rdm = good party:spiteful:

It seem that the only place people like to merit these days are Caedarva Mire and Mamool Ja stag point. Is there any places in Arrapago Reef or Halvung? I was in party yesterday there was like five party in caedarva mire and 4 in mamool ja stag point.
