4-8 New abilities, I'm not sure what they could give to ninja. The San line of elementals would be too powerful unless they had ichi length cast times, Jubaku: ni maybe, utsusemi/hojo/kurayami: san I seriously doubt. Maybe they'll just toss out some gimp new ja's that allow us to hide or crit hit. Some self haste JA would just be sexy though. :)

I don't see meritable dual wield, that's a job trait. SE said at fan fest that it would be abilities and spells, no mention of job traits.

- Subcategories
The 15 existing job categories will be divided into subcategories. Group 1 will include conventional abilities, while Group 2 will include the new job abilities, job traits, and spells.
I could definitely see duel wield being meritable. Whether or not such a boost would be overpowered however, is up for debate.

Didn't they just attempt to nerf dual wield a little while ago?(hit thf instead by accident yet again)
Not even SE is stupid enough to nerf dual weild tp gain then enhance it so that one of the jobs they tried to slightly nerf would be powered up again.

A few people did say they got banned for fleehacking while they were really wearing movement +12% gear and/or using the warp taru so i guess there is some chance of that....

There's already meritable job traits though, so it wouldn't be the first time you could merit something like dual wield. Although I do agree with your reasoning about them not mentioning traits specifically, I'd say they also would not allow meriting DW just because they changed the TP floor several months ago.

I know that its easy to out dd am with the highest tier spell but, why skip out on the tier V nukes?

Didnt say I'd skip out on them, but lets say this. When I was a beginner BLM, I couldnt wait for AM, I mean its supposed to be some of the best magic you can use(atleast thats what I though). Then when i finally get it, its a total let down you never really use it in parties unless you're begging the party to do so, and when you do, thats the only thing you cast because it sucks up so much MP. Sure idk how useful the next teir of elemental magic will be, but I'm not about to use up my merits unless I hear great things about Thunder 5.

Now if Blms get the ability to merit say... Breakga/Silencega/Bindga i'd be all over that. And i'd be all over Balista as well

Well looking at current upgradable abilities, what job specifics are that overpowered for melee? Double/Triple/Kick Attacks +5% is about as powerful as you get, putting 5% on DW would effectively give me 10% more swings (and no, not because of 2 weapons, but because it would drop from 55% to 50% of added delays) Triple attack +5% basically does that, but lolthf melee damage.

They aren't going to add Dual Wield merits... lol... the new categories are for unlocking new traits/abilities, not improving ones we already have. We already have that ability, and the news item says those will not be changed.

Oh, and currently according to the dats :San level spells are on like a 12 minute timer or something like that. They won't break anything.

There's also lvl 80 gear in the dats that hasn't been given to players, that doesn't mean it's going to be level 80 when/if it is made available. And I'm prettys sure san spells have a 60 second recast in the dats, but a 12 (or maybe 15) second cast time.

12 second cast would make it useless for everything except when the mob isn't on you.

If it's a nice steady 200+ damage spell it would be worth using the wheel on really long fights just to ensure you have hate should another tank go down. In merits or xp mode, its pretty useless.

Hmmmm....

Has anyone noticed that w/ these new merits, in regards to the 2nd set of them, (the non-passave-abilitys) There are 9 Avatars, and if you look, there can only be 6 merits placed on each ability. Needing at least one on each ability to use it, i see ssome decisions that are going to have to be made on which abilitys you acually want =X.

There's 4-8 abilities/spells/traits for each job, and it doesn't look like there's even 8 for smn. I'd guess one for each of the 6 avatars.

Prolly just the 6 elemental avatars get them. As is listed, alouth Fenrir has an un-named buffing BP in the .Dats and Diabolos has an AoE curse.

But you can do carbuncle prime correct? Doesn't he have a special ability?

He dissapears and then a random elemental avatar pops, then there are tons of him, it is ALOT different, you can't compare a Waking the Beast fight to the primes.

Not quite. Dual Wield and Martial arts are static. Double Attack, Triple Attack, and Kick Attacks are entirely random. Sure, over a looooong period of time, it'll equal out to +5%. But since it's random, fight for fight, it'll be less. Or more. But Dual Wield and Martial Arts will always show that change. Besides. +5% for an Extra hit or two isn't the same as -5% to your attack delay. TP yielding, it's roughly the same. But functionality, pretty different. If I had the choice of a random +5% extra hit, or static -5% delay reduction, especially as a monk, I'd go with the -5% reduction. Even more so since you can only score one kick per round, as opposed to 1-4 bonus hits through dual wielding with Double Attack and Triple Attack.

Hopefully DRG will get to be able to merit the ability "No LFG Jump".

SE had said they wanted to give blm spells to encourage invites into nonmanaburn parties (IE: TPburn parties). The only way blms will get invites into TPburn parties is if we have a spell that inflates the e-peens of the melees involved. Temper from FF1 would do the trick. I don't think that'll happen though. I hope I get ancient magic II. I don't care if it's useful or not, so long as it looks cool and puts up damage large enough to amaze bystanders - kind of the blm equivellent to Diabolos: cool and not too useful.
