I was wonder as a BLM should a Level thunder or Ice For merits.

Now I know it may be soooo simple to you guys and you might say well Duh thunder does more DMG naturaly, But what I was takin to account was Ice staff, ya that cheap staff that not only adds 10% to said element, but Also adds elemental magic +10 and +4 INT.

Now im thinkin if I merit Ice I will do more Dot over thuner cause it will get resisted less and cause more dmg the a non merited thunder.

Well I hope you guys can answer this question and thanks for any info you can add to this.

You should be able to do both. You're capped at 5 upgrades per element, but can do 10 total. Why not put 5 in Thunder and 5 in Ice?

Or you could start by meriting Elemental Magic and dont have to worry about resist.

Five has to go on Aero for that dumb fuck Kirin.

ummmmmmmmmmm
I SWEAR TO GOD IF YOU WASTE 5 POINTS ON AERO I WILL KILL YOU.

That is all.

Well then it looks like Thunder is the best choice for Light and Ice is the best choice for Dark.

I should revolve my Merrits around that I guess.

on a Realated note, Does RDM merrit effect BLM at all? If so I need to level ding 75 for my RDM too : :

NO!! just no :nono:

Thunder > elemental > Int > MP > Ice/eminity (only do eminity if you'll never play a tanking job)

That is a good order to follow and will keep you busy a loooong time

*edit*
you can merrit with rdm and spend those points for blm. Ice is rerely ever used. so stick to thunder first.

My current, albeit premature, plan is to merit all my elements as equally as possible. While it might not yield the biggest possible number in a very specific situation (I won't set a game record bursting thundaga III in double thunder weather...), blms have more than just thunder and ice spells, and I want them all to be proportionately improved. I'm gonna put one point into each in succession starting with stone and working towards thunder or dark, whichever is last, untill I run out. I'm thinking a well balanced blm is more useful than a one trick pony.

I ment like for RDMs they get magic acc for each element not magic dmg like BLMs do.

So say I add 1 merrit to thunder Acc on RDM, will that effect my BLM?

The reason you DONT do that is because you dont use those spells. most SC's that are made are light bassed. thunder is your biggest mb for light, and a lot of mobs are weak to Thunder*(fixed). kirin is really your only nm that isn't what you throw thunder at. Merriting earth is just wrong, your merrits but when you see that you never use it you'll wish you hadent.

Mainly at 75 all i've used is thunder and fire. thunder is use A LOT it should be a blms main focus first and the other elements i wouldn't worry about at all, because again THEY ARE NEVER USED!

no because they are job specific. if you want thunder potency on rdm you'd have to spend merrit points under your rdm category. you can go merriting as rdm to get points then go back change to blm and spend them for blm onry merrits

*shakes head* cap ele skill first. that is the 100% best option.
ele skill > thunder > ice > int > mp > enmity down > evasion skill

meh i like thunder better i can get elemental gear that makes up for those merrits. not saying its not important just that i choose thunder potency first

And you usually have to trade that elemental magic gear for
Magic atk bonus. See where we going with that?

no legs and earring and head. the only spot you trade for mab gear is in hands and neck. neck isn't usable till 50% or going to go under 50% mp.

and hands you have to have zennith mits (which i haven't attained yet)

well, then you give up 14 int, 25 mp and -8 enmity instead.

whats the mp from? I havent used wizard pento's since lvl 72.

but while im giving up 14 int thats only like 42 extra damage. my thunder potency will beat that out. and legs dont give that much -eminity. the eminity is the only thing that might help but generally if i'm going to get hate im going to get hate and that -eminity isn't going to peal that thing off of me. Other then that i adjust what gear i'm wearing for what i'm fighting.

I'm not saying its not important i just prefer to do thunder first since you can't get thunder potency from gear other then blm af2 pants on thunders day

Mahatma Slops are -4 Enmity.
And the only thing better then Wizards Petaso would be
Zenith head and Sorcerers Petaso. Especially since as you say
1 int isnt all that much dmg.

if were talking elemental gear elite baret. +4 elemental magic. druid slops +5, af hands +15, elemental earring +3, elemental torque +7

I like my mahatmoa hat over my wizards pentos for extra eminity other wise demon helm+1. As i said i dont face many resist so my play stile i prefer thunder potency. if it is a high lvl mob i'll gear out in elemental gear. chances are that even with merrits i've still got a good chance of getting resisted so its best to lose the int for elemental and get as much bang out of that thunder as possible.

As i said i change my equip macros for what kind of mob ill be fighting ect. i'm also taru so i get a lil extr boost in natuaral int and mp as it is. Just personal preference, if merrets were meant to be spent in a certain order then they wouldn't give us optoins. i just choose to lvl thunder first because its something that isn't replaceable with gear. i'm not losing MAB gear from it. you with your 42 merrits are gonna probably hit higher naturarlly but i bet i could keep up pretty well with just maxed thunder (which i dont have i only have 1thunder merrit total to busy working on keeping death buff up and working on my 3rd character)

I'm not saying i'm 100% correct on my order to lvl merrits. but i'm not saying to lvl all spells potency that you'll never use either, or to lvl aero for kirin only. just saying for my play style that i get more bennifit out of thunder first then elemental. it will be the second thing i merrit when i do finally start merriting though.

Well we agree there atleast. 95% of my spells used is Thunder and
Ice. I see no point in meriting the other spells.
