I was pleased to hear him renew his call for a repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" and the implication of getting it done this year. It's time that policy went the way of the dodo.
its always been like that though. thats what i dont get. why is it even an issue for him to address. its been like that since i joined back in 96

and why is that? i would imagine because the homosexual population didnt uphold their part of dont ask, dont tell
they were allowed into the military because they didnt disclose it. but at some point, they did. some people just need to learn to shut the hell up

What about the ones who don't tell, but say get caught with their significant other when they are off the base? Still pretty shitty to discharge them for that.

they are making it public. actions speak just as loud as words. they are: number one-allowed into the military. number 2: are told of the policy. therefore, they arent being discriminated against. they are being allowed in. but they are going against the policy. as bad as you might think the policy is, they went against the set rule that has been there for decades.
if they get "caught" in public, that means they are expressing their sexuality openly. in military towns, you cannot not be seen if you are publicly showing it. on or off base. doesnt matter. first thing people do in the military is go off base. it would be hard to not get caught

Agreed, not all of them tell so to speak, some get ousted as payback, others just get caught red-handed.

I think he did great, it's nice to see him focus first on what will placate American's in general: the lack of jobs. Not that I agree with that, for what good is building up a workforce, if they get injured or sick and cant afford to get treated?

Like Miros, I'm not lookin to start a big debate, just stating my opinion.

You are answering your own question here. A rule set in place for decades that needs to be brought up to the current times. There's more and more gays coming out in the world and it's stupid to deny them the privilege of serving their country. The United States Military should not be discriminating against anyone. Black, white, purple, gay, bisexual or any of the like. The policy is old and needs to be updated to keep up with the progressive government that everyone says we have.

your answering your own question. i dont think you understand the "dont ask dont tell policy"
its been in place for decades. the RECRUITER is the first person to say this policy to someone joining. they DO get into the military. THEY ALWAYS have. how else are you going to get discharged if you never got in?
the "dont ask dont tell" policy is what obama had brought up. not the "gays should be let in".
because, gays are let in. they are let into the military just as much as everyone else. there isnt a check box on the sign up form for "are you homosexual".
your stating two things " There's more and more gays coming out in the world and it's stupid to deny them the privilege of serving their country" and then, your also stating "they are being discharged for it". .....they are being allowed to serve it. as a disclosure, they are told "if you are gay, we just dont want to know about it. but they are stupid enough to make it public information at some point. if they were smart, they would keep it private. JUST AS EVERYONE ELSE IN THE MILITARY DOES.

So you are saying that everyone in the military is not allowed to hold hands or kiss or go on dates in public? Everything has to be done behind the scenes? That's pretty sad if it's true. :<

yes, that is how it is for military members. but you have to remember the subject brought up. "dont ask dont tell". which allows gays into the military if they dont express their sexuality. now dates, anyone can go on dates. two guys go out somewhere, it doesnt have to automatically look like two gay guys being together. i have almost a dozen gay friends. but you know, they dont publicy express themselves. and, all of the ones i do know, are pretty much dating each other. but they can wait till they arent in public to show PDA

no visible tattoos, must wear belts, no wearing hats indoors. shirts must be tucked in. many many things that you just dont know about.
and dont get me started about contracts. marriage included. by military courtesy, your commanding officer MUJST be invited. buying a car, a senior rank must be with you while you do it.

Seriously? Well then if that's honestly the case for both hetrosexuals and homosexuals then damn, I would think they really need to change things around.

I don't care if gays serve in the military. What I would suggest, as much as I'll probably get crap for it, is that they not serve in "active combat" (hope I'm using the right term) for the same reason women are not currently fighting along side men in open engagements. It's too much of a distraction for the troops and when your life is on the line you need to be 100% focused on the task at hand.

Wow, all things I did not know. Thanks for enlightening the issues! I'm curious, what is your opinion on those requirements/policies?

Shut up. When you're in the middle of war I think the last thing a gay guy would be thinking is "ooo I'mma try and tap that ass."

I think it's more on the other side...the straight guy worrying if the gay guy is checking him out in the shower. ;x

Well he needs to get out of the 1960s then.

i personally dont care who is in the military. the women thing. thats my only issue. mainly because of distractions for men. distractions can easily kill many people. my ex wife was a marine. she is tough as nails. however, pregnancy takes them out of the battle. and when there are lonely men with lonely women, well, you get the point.
as for gays....like i said, i have many gay friends. i dont mind their sexuality. but, i dont really care to see PDA regardless of gay or straight. either one, i dont want to see.
ill post more of the policies that i come up with that there are.

but ill leave you with one that i almost got in trouble for....a 2nd degree sun burn on my shoulder.

Well at your post before you edited or w/e saying "How do you know"

If they're thinking about sex in the middle of a gun battle then they deserve to get shot.
