well, listen to this story all the way through. This makes me out to be a really bad person with how the situation is, but it was a complete accident that i should be regretting for the rest of my life.

lastnight, i was playing halo 3 and eating dinner.
We had just got a new kitten for my daughter...tho my daughter is a bit ruff with the kitten...it kinda became mine because it follows me everywhere and wont let me be.
lastnight...i did something cruel and mean and very sickening to even myself without realizing it at first.

the kitten kept climbing on my lap, trying to get to my food plate sitting on the other side of me. i kept moving her back to where she was, i dont like her climbing on my while playing xbox with the head set since she cut my other headset cord in half by playing with it when i wasnt looking.

i caught her eating off my plate and got mad, moved her back to where she was and tapped her nose.
a few moments later i glanced over to see her doing it again. this is where my big mistake comes in, i picked her up and just tossed her to the side of the room out of the way while not looking where i tossed her, it wasnt a very powerful toss, it was just a toss to get her out of the way.
my actions led to this horrifying moment.

I glanced over as she hit the floor and she was sliding sideways acrossed the carpet. cats usually put their claws out and catch themselves ya know, she tried that...but. it didnt stop her and she rolled sideways really fast and tumbled and it hit the cement basement wall.
i figured nothing of it and stayed playing since like i said it wasnt a hard toss.
but shes just a baby...a little over a month...and fragile.
i glanced over and the cat was flopping around insanley on the floor like a fish on dry land (sorry for that description, it best describes how it looked) almost as if having a seizure.
i quicky shut off the game system and ran over to her.
she was just flipping around meowing like mad...in much pain. then she stopped and just laid there breathing.
i began bawling my eyes out. i went to get my wife who began crying instantly too asking what happened. I told her i think i killed the cat.

We ran downstairs and the cat was writhing in pain on the floor just crying...it began to poop. I was sure it was dying and began crying harder saying repeatedly i was sorry and didnt mean for it to happen...she had a blank stare on her face, almost as if she wasnt there, she couldnt see us or know what direction sounds were coming from.
i called my mom, i was desperate and didnt know what to do. i didnt want this cat to die. It looked to me for protection, and i hurt it the most.

my mom comes over...shes sure its dying too. As it just laid there lifeless, faintly breathing with that blank "not there" look on its face.
it started struggling again suddenly...standing on all its paws trying to walk while crying in pain...it didnt walk fully...it was more like crawling...then eventually dragging her back paws. my mom thought i hurt her ribs but wasnt sure.

after 30 minutes...she slowly was coming to and looking as if she could see us now and hear us...but still fading in and out and breathing more and more faintly.

i picked her up carefully and sat her on a baby blanket next to some food and water, she just laid there and didnt move, still faintly breathing and closed her eyes.
no one who saw that kitten could see anything other than it dying. and it was all my fault.

so...i did something i dont do often. and i prayed, not to god. hes always busy. But to my guardian angels, who are always there just for me. ive never asked them for anything, and hey if you dont believe in that sort of thing thats fine.
But i was desperate...with no where to turn. I never killed anything or hurt anything and i made a huge mistake lastnight.
I offered to take time off of my own life to keep that kitten alive and well. Though deep down i was sure it was not possible.

This is where the miracle comes.

when i went to sleep, i slept in the basement with the kitten. she was still out cold, not moving, faintly breathing and almost certainly dying.

i woke up. she was running around, playing.
as if nothing ever happened. just like before. she looked happy and un hurt. This was to everyones surprise, like i said. If you had seen this kitten and watched was we saw. She WAS dying. theres no denying it.
but...by some miracle...perhaps my prayers. Shes...like magically healed.
only one thing wrong with her, she limps on her back paw. Looks like a pulled nail which is healing.

the other part...i woke up very sick the next morning. maybe i did lose some year or so off my life for that kitten. ill never know, something hard to believe in ya know. but...my prayers were answered. and i have this miracle kitten to prove it.

It makes me sound like some cruel animal abuser, which im not. ive always tossed cats lightly out of the way if they are somewhere they are not supposed to be, they usually just land and run, never get hurt. While i still feel very guilty for its suffering lastnight...im very grateful for its fast healing.

my daughter was trying to come down stairs when it was suffering...it was hard to keep her up there when she kept saying "i wanna see kitty"

Miracles do happen, even if something small. and i know this is nothing short of a miracle. Im glad someone out there knew how much of mistake and how much guilt and regret i had to help me make it better.
ill never toss a cat anywhere again. even off the table to the floor. Im sitting them down from now on.

Wait, so you god-hacked the kitten back to full HP? Fuckin' hackers...

.........

I'm glad yer kitty's okay.

Have you taken the kitten to the veterinary clinic?

If you were certain that the kitten was dying that night, instead of just praying for it you should of taken it to the emergency vet clinic in your area immediately to have it checked.

Even now, you say its limping? I really hope you do get the kitten looked at and don't just leave it to "heal on its own". There could be internal damage and sometimes without medical help to an injury, the "healing on its own" can have permanent problems later on.

How on earth did oyu manage to buy a 4 weeks old kitten? In most countries you're not allowed to sell a kitten untill its atleast 9 weeks old, as it still needs its mother up untill 9 weeks of age.

Putting that aside, kittens are extremely adaptable. While it could have gone worse, they're still growing A LOT at that age, and their bones are very elastic. At that age they heal very fast. I wouldn't say its too bad, and it'll most likely be fully recovered in a few days.

That aside, I really wouldn't reccomend you to do it again, as they're still rather fragile, heh.

If you want to avoid the kitten playing with you, you should buy it something else to play with :p Something attached to a string, hanging from somewhere, or a simple ball, can entertain them for hours on end. Either that or you could just play with it with your hand. It'll grow tired and fall asleep within 10 min, lol.

you can get kittens at ANY age in the US, and usually they are free. Which this one was.
dont worry i wont do it again, and the problem with the vet...we are struggling on next to no cash right now, which makes me feel horrible. It would cost us money we cant afford right now, we just moved into a new place and are catching up on all the loans and bills for the first time...literally, 0 dollars >.<

shes sleeping now again, shes babying that paw and ive looked at it. its not broken but i can see one single claw pulled up, probly got caught in the carpeting, its scabbed but healing correctly.
i really wish i could afford a vet right now...but currently i can only keep a very good eye on her and take much care of her on my own.

I treated animals very poorly when I was younger. I have respect for all life now. I regret it just as you regret your actions. Most people have this idea that a miracle is something that is extremely positive and out of the ordinary. This isn't true. I see many things as being miracles that most people are just use to and take for granted. A birth. A tree. The clouds. The wind. Water and fire. The internet. These are all miracles to me. And I don't have to takes drugs to feel that way. =)

o.O; You can get animals at any age there? Its almost animal cruelty to sepperate a 3-4 weeks old kitten from its mom a <.< They still depend on their mother at that age. At around 2 weeks they open their eyes, at around 3 weeks they start getting teeth, and at 4 weeks they start peeing and pooping by themselves. At around 5 weeks they ca nstart drinking and eating by themselves, but they're dependant on their mother untill 9 weeks, and at 12 weeks their mother starts rejecting them. You usually start selling them or givign the maway at around 10 weeks, since their not dependant on their mother, and their mother will start pushing them away soon. That's why we have a "law" in Europe that forbids the selling of cats untill 9-10 weeks of age. Its not a law, more like a morality code that the majority follows.

I'd never sell my kittens before 9 weeks >.> It just feels wrong. The mother would be looking for the kittens and be all worried if you gave them away or sold it after only 4-5 weeks

well uzor, most people here usually do that honestly, unless they really just want to get rid of them. theres no looking down on anyone here that gives them away right when they are born tho. sadly, people in the US generally dont care that much about animals to put that effort into it. this kitten was already litter trained and eating hard foods on its own after a month though, so it really wasnt dependant on its mother anymore, nor were any others in that litter. in this case its a little different, but like i said. sadly in the US people generally dont have to be so nice about it.
back when i first started ffxi i found some new born kittens in a box outside the local deli in the middle of the snow, freezing with a note to take care of them and their names.
i took all 5 of them in till i could give them homes, i planned on keeping 2 of them but the 2nd one i was gonna keep...the runt of the litter died right after i made that decision, the one we did keep wasnt allowed to stay where i was when i moved so we had to let him go.
the others went to the humane society.

Kittens aren't sold that often here, you'll normally have someone that has a litter of kittens or puppies or whatever, and puts a sign out front or in the classifieds "free kittens/puppies to a good home." There might be a law against selling them, you'd have to ask someone that works in a pet store. I'm sure that very few cops know of the law if it exists, and almost none would bother enforcing it.

i think its required they have their shots before selling if they are sold, ive never seen any for sale without shots, ones that are free never seem to have their shots.

Glad to hear the kitten is doing okay as of your last statements...<_<;

Chasym, out of curiosity, have you called around to local vets to see how much a small checkup would be for the kitten?

I understand that perhaps your financial situation may not allow such an expenditure of your funds, but perhaps it wouldn't hurt to see if it may be within your realm of power or that of close friends/family who can empathize and/or maybe owe you a favor or two that you haven't called upon yet.

I'm glad your kitten's ok. It's always hard watching animals or anything for that matter, in pain.

I've had a lot of bad run ins with cats. We have 3 right now. Had a fourth but he passed a year ago after trying to recover from a poisoning. Talked about it in the ls with some people back when I was a member still, doubt anyone remembers it though.

One of our cats, our crazy one, I feel at fault for her being a complete lunatic. We got her at 3 weeks, her mom was a feral cat that lived across the street from where we were living and had abandoned her under our stairs one night. Had to feed her with an eye dropper and all that for a while. We guessed she was the runt of the litter.

Anyways at about 6 weeks old I went to get the mail one day and was coming back inside. I pushed the door to let it close how I always did and heard a noise. Looked down and she had put her head between the door and the frame and was kinda stuck. >_< She didn't seem hurt or anything was just kinda pissed off at me. I watched her close for a few weeks and she seemed ok but she got crazier and crazier over time. Took her to a vet and they said she was fine. She's about 7 now and a complete lunatic.

Never did try to go outside again though. >_<

I hope your kitten stays healthy. I would get her to a vet as soon as it's financially possible just to make sure she's ok, but I'm sure you've already thought of that. :)

well as of today....shes not limping anymore. i looked at her paw and where the claw was...theres no scab anymore. looks completley normal... Now i dont know about you, but i dont know of anything that heals that fast... i got this weird feeling everytime i look at that kitten, sorta like "you shouldnt be alive" kinda feeling, sorta like i braced myself for her death and was as certain as everyone else on it...now its like nothing happened.
shes followin me around like she used to. not afraid of me, which i expected her to be after that. most animals would be. she hops around playing with my door beads...my microphone cord, everything she did before the accident.
i honestly still cant get over this recovery though.
i keep thinking of her laying there on her back, legs stiff pointing in the air, meowing and gasping for air and letting go of life...but seeing her not even 2 days later hopping around and going about her normal business. Its not a feeling i can explain i guess, it just feels sooo sci-fi if ya know what i mean...

as for a vet, i just applied for a few jobs this morning so if i can get some work i can take her, but until then i cant afford much of anything but bills and house payment >.<

They don't give cats nine lives for nothin.

Glad your kitty's doing ok. :)
