Miracles really do happen. This is a graphic story...

Glad to hear everything's doing OK, both with you and the kitten...

well as of today....shes not limping anymore. i looked at her paw and where the claw was...theres no scab anymore. looks completley normal... Now i dont know about you, but i dont know of anything that heals that fast... i got this weird feeling everytime i look at that kitten, sorta like "you shouldnt be alive" kinda feeling, sorta like i braced myself for her death and was as certain as everyone else on it...now its like nothing happened.
shes followin me around like she used to. not afraid of me, which i expected her to be after that. most animals would be. she hops around playing with my door beads...my microphone cord, everything she did before the accident.
i honestly still cant get over this recovery though.
i keep thinking of her laying there on her back, legs stiff pointing in the air, meowing and gasping for air and letting go of life...but seeing her not even 2 days later hopping around and going about her normal business. Its not a feeling i can explain i guess, it just feels sooo sci-fi if ya know what i mean...

as for a vet, i just applied for a few jobs this morning so if i can get some work i can take her, but until then i cant afford much of anything but bills and house payment >.<
I told you the cat would be ok <.< kittens at that age heals very fast. If the cat was adult and was hurt the same way, you'd have to take it to the vet. But kittens in particular heal very fast. You could break a kitten's leg and it'd heal within a week.

As for the cat selling part, in Sweden, only rabbits, mice, birds etc. are sold in pet shops. Dogs and cats are sold by people with cats and dogs at home. Lizards, birds etc. can also be sold by people that own them. We don't have any dangerous diseases on our animals, so giving them shots is uneccesary, so that might be why we can sell them the way we are.

And yes, kittens usually start eating food the moment they learn to poop/pee by themselves, which is around when they get their teeth. They're also extremely easy to litter train. Their mother will usually teach them to go to the litter box. However, this doesn't mean they're independant, though. And if you seperate them from their mother at that age, she'll be very worried and go around looking for her kids.

As an example how much kittens can take, I live in a somewhat large house. We've had 6-week old kittens fall down from the top floor on to the asphalt below. They survived and were fully healed within a week, although they didn't get any serious injuries. One kitten did get a somewhat serious injury. He boke his ribcake, and when we got him inside he was sittign on the carpet throwing up, and made a wheezing sound as if his lung were broken. The next day he were running around playing with the others, albeit slower, and couldn't handle the cat fight trainings with his siblings. After a week he didn't have a single trace of an injury.

I want to say we found my cat, who is now two, when he was right around 5-6 weeks with 3 sisters right around this time actually. His mom is/was a stray I haven't seen her in awhile so I'm guessing she finally died. Side Note: My cat's mom survived two Illinois winters, and I saw some other strays that were lost and crying for food. That is so horrible to watch any lost animal suffer the cold of winter especially how cold this winter was. We tried to catch the mom, but she wouldn't take so the sisters found homes which I hope are suiting them well.

My parents initially wanted to find another person for the last one because no one wanted him. Then the little snot head cuddle monster grew on my parents so we kept him. When my mom wanted to get him fixed and get his front claws taken out I wasn't exactly comfortable with it. The night before he couldn't eat or have any water he was crying so much to get in where we have his bowl and water. Then afterward the surgery he would cry in so much pain it was so sad. He started to sit on his back legs only looking like a gofer or prairie dog. It was so horrible because we had to gate off where his food was because my dog would always eat his food. So I would have to open the gate for him to let him through.

Now he is a mini-beer bell kitty cat. That actually right now is laying next to me sleeping. I swear though seeing him in that much pain was horrible that I would just pick him up and carry him around all the time. It is one of the sadist things to hear a baby animal crying in pain.

I seriously hope your kitten is ok. My eyes are still a little watery from the story because I could just see the little thing in that pain. I know it was an accident Chasym, but you're just so lucky that the little thing didn't die. For that I am glad.

see what happens when you play violent video games !!

WTF, why would you remove a cat's claws? And why only front claws?

to keep em from scratching ya, and climbing on sh!t. Its common practice in the states, and these cats now become "inside" cats.

Because it's not a laughing matter, you insensitive piece of crap.

kthx Misharia, or Windaela, (dunno if those are gonna fly) but get off your emo horse, and dont assume that i felt no empathy for Chasym, his family, specially his little girl, or the lil kitteh. But once a tragedy has a happy ending, and in this particular case, a miraculous one, jokes become acceptable; regardless, any and everything is a laughing matter. I didn't write the song (although i do have an autographed copy of the lyrics provided by PETA which reads "Dirty Sanchez, keep on wipin~ S. Lynch") i merely placed it with near impeccable accuracy and execution within this thread, emphasis on near. and quite frankly, i don't think a red dot is the credit i deserve.

The OP even stated that it wasn't funny. And you posted it again. Twice. It not your place to decide when other's serious experience are allowed to be joked about or not, only them. You ignore that...on the contrary, you "beg to differ".

You're an insensitive piece of sh-!t. Period. If I'm emo for caring about the well-being of a kitten, you must be some kindof f-!king sicko to be laughing at the entire situation.

3 times actually, 4 if you count your quote, although technically, that might fall under your tally.

... that's just mean. A cat needs its claws. Its not right to remove their claws just so they won't be able to scratch and climb on things. If an adult kitten scratches you, its because you do something wrong. If they're climbing on things they're not allowed to climb on inside, you're once again doing osmething wrong. You're in charge of the friggin' cat, its your job to see that it behaves.

A cat neverscratches you as an adult, unless you treat it bad. If the cat doesn't have any respect for you, or if you're mean to it, it will scratch. Its their way of telling you they don't like what you're doing. I'm never scratched by my adult cats unless I do something wrong. Once I joked with one of my cats and scared it, and it scratched me. That's understandable, it was my fault. Removing the claws so it can't scratch you is just stupid, since its your own friggin' fault if it scratches you. If a cat is raised well, it'll slap you without its claws out unless you scare it or otherwise physically hurt it. Cats are gentle if raised right, and they know exactly how hard they can bite and scratch without hurting you. They play with their siblings at young age and get taught that then.

Removing the claws of a cat to prevent it from scratching you is just sick, stupid and egoistical. Its not a cat's fault if s/he scratches someone, its the owner's fault. Start taking your own god damn responsibility for your animals.

You can have inside cats without removing their claws. Why don't we start pulling out the nails of little kids when they scratch you?

I'd seriously reccomend your parents learn some about cats. And if it is in fact common practice in the states, I'd reccomend you do a nation wide animal practice event. To start off, go to this site:

http://www.felinefuture.com/

The cat's claws are unique in the animal kingdom in design and function. Many mammals have claws, with the primary function as an aid in digging and climbing, and for added traction. The claws of these animals are continuously growing, like our own finger nails, and are kept from growing too long through their use.
Cats, however, have evolved a very specific use for their claws, comparable to birds of prey. Although their agile climbing abilities are greatly supported by them, and the claws are also frequently used to maintain good traction, the main purpose, especially for the claws of the front paws, is to get a good grip onto their prey, and ability to hold on to it. The design of the cat's claws demonstrates this very nicely. The shape of the claws is sickle-like with a needle sharp-tip. To maintain the sharp tip, cats are able to retract their claws into a skin pouch while walking to avoid wear and tear. Of course the cat's claws grow and renew themselves continuously, but not like a human's fingernails or the claws of dogs. For a better understanding, envision the cat's claws to be built very much like an onion. The claw grows within, whilst the outer, worn layers are shed. The outer layer will loosen from the cuticle and fall off, a process which is supported by the cat's scratching behaviour, leaving behind paper-thin claw contours (husks) at her favorite scratching post.
Claw "Husks" Because the cat's claws are such "weapons" many care givers like to clip their companion cats' claws to avoid injury to themselves, or destruction of furniture. This process, however, severely interrupts the claws’ natural renewal cycle. By clipping the tip of the claws the outer layers to be shed often accumulate alongside the claws and under the cuticle, frequently resulting in an infection of the nail bed. An accumulation of old layers on clipped claws often gives the appearance of brittle claws, which care givers often remedy by lubricating the claws with oil. The oil will soak through the entire horny tissue of the claw, gluing the layers together. Subsequently, the claws will grow into large, dull stumps, often causing discomfort to the cat.
Avoid clipping a cat's claws altogether. To avoid injury, reduce unnecessary handling of the cat, and have cuddle and stoke sessions on the cat’s terms. Don’t pick up a cat that dislikes being picked up. Play with toys attached to a stick or suspended from a string. Provide the cat with suitable scratching locations and objects to avoid damage to your furnishings.
Keep in mind that it was your choice to invite a predator into your home as a companion animal. Respect the cat for who she is and handle her accordingly. This way, injury should be rare and only accidental.
If you must clip a cat's claws because of young children in the house, check the claws regularly for infection, and remove old, built-up layers with your nails.
Otherwise a cat's claws needs little attention besides the occasional removal of waxy debris from around the cuticle. Do not lubricate a cat’s claws with oil! Instead make sure your cat receives all necessary fatty acids and high quality protein through her diet for healthy claws.

Bolded the most important part.

Seriously, yor choice, your responsibility. This can be compared to having a dog and refuse to pick up their poop when you go out with it because "its gross". And yes, I know people with that opinion. People like that shouldn't have animals.

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii would say, pure guesstimate mind you, that 3 out of every 5 households with cats across the pond here, has em declawed.

Wich is sick. How the hell can so many pet holders be so god damn bad and not take responsible for their own pets? If you chose to let an animal in ot your house, you take full responsibility for it. If you can't handle a cat good enough to prevent it fro mscratching you, that's your own friggin' fault. The animal shouldn't have to suffer for your actions. If you can't handle a pet, just sell it or give it away to someone that CAN.

I'm sad to say that the majority of the people that have pets, can't handle them. It is sad, but true. My family is extremely picky who we sell to. We don't sell to people that can't let the animals run outside, won't sell to alcoholists or other people we deem can't take care of the animals correctly, etc. My cousins do the same.
We can't keep the kittens, but that doesn't mean we'll just let anyone take care of them. The cats deserve better then coming to someone that treats them badly. No animals should have to suffer for what their owners decide to put them through.

Having had cats and dogs for over 15 years, I know exactly how thye work. And I'll tell you that cats and dogs, just like people, have unique personalities. And just like children, you have to raise them and teach them what they can and can not do. If a child, or animal, grows up in to a "bad" creature, its not the child or animal's fault, its the parents/owner. If you can't take care of a child, you shouldn't have children. If you can't take care of an animal, you shouldn't have the animal. It really is as simple as that.

i have never and could never declaw a cat period. thats just horrid. imagine someone yanking your nails compleltley out.

Chas you made a mistake in a sudden rush of angryness. We've all done that, I've done worse. The good thing is learning from your oppss so you don't relive them again.

I havent declawed any of my cats Ive ever had, and Ive had dozens.

Man, they tear the shit out of everything, even when I buy them scratch poles and shit to keep em from ripping the couch apart, along with other things.

And yes, adult cats WILL scratch you, even if you dont do shit to em. Mine would climb up my pants, and that shit hurts. Also when you let em sleep in your lap, then they decide to stretch and plant their claws into your leg. Fucking ouch.

Its all in the way you raise them. I've had cats for over 15 years, we're on the 5th generation atm. Right now we have 2 adult females, 1 teenage female and 1 adult male. On top of that we have 3 kittens. Earlier, both of the adult cats got 2-3 litters a year. So totally, we've probably had over 500 kittens.

And no, they don't tear shit out of everything. Its your responsibility as an owner to teach them what they can and can not do.

I know exactly the motion you're talking about. Your cat goes up to you as you're sitting in a chair, put her paws on your leg and stretch out. After that she will let out a "mjau". Some of the time she also lets out a purr. She do that to say "Hello" and to get your attention. Depending on the voice she makes the "mjau" in, it means different things. Most of the times its just a good morning call, as they tend to do this motion when they wake up, hence the stretching.

There's several different noises a cat will make. All of them meaning different things. There's the a bit deeped "Mao" voice that cats make in heat. They also do this when they're looking for soemthing they can't find, like one of their kids. Then there's the purring "Mrrao" voice which is usually somewhat high-pitched. This is the typical loving voice they make when thye like you and recognize you as a friend. This is usually also the voice they make when they're calling on their kids, although it sounds slightly different. If they make this voice when they're doign the stretching motion, it usually means they want you to pick them up and pet them.

Other then these, there's several other soudns they make. One of them id the usual "mjau", which means they want something from you. Usually they'll do their best to get your attention, including stretching against your legs, which can also be while you're standing up. Before they do this, though, they usually keep walking around your feet and cuddle, while mjauing. If they fail to get your attention at that time, they will stretch agaisnt your legs and pull their claws out. Usually thye don't do it to hurt you, just to get your attention. When they have your attention, they will try to get you to follow to the thing they need help with. It can be emptying the litter box because they find it dirty, refilling of food, refilling of water etc. Its usualyl things they can't do themselves and need help with. All cats have different ways of showing what they want, and soem are better on it then others.

One way of avoiding the scratching if you don't enjoy it, is giving them the attention they need. When you seem them walk towards you or passed you, say hello to them in that "child voice". Uusally they'll respond with the purring mjauing in response. Sometimes they'll walk up to you and cuddle, too. If you want to avoid it whiel standing around, recognize when your cat wants something and help it out. Say "Hi honey" etc. when you see it while walking around the house, and I can almost guarantee the scratching will stop.

Personally, none of my cats ever scratch me unless I do something they don't like, like the scaring story I told you earlier. Teach them they're not allowed to scratch things. If you have an outdoor cat, they'll do the scratching outside, which is what you want. If you have an indoors cat, buy it a scratching post.

They scratch things in order to sharpen their claws, and to remove the old parts of the claws, If they wouldn't, their claws would be deformed. If they don't have anything in particular to scratch against, they'll do it on anything they can find. Which is why you need to give them something thye are allowed to scratch against. Its just like litterbox training them.

And speaking of cats, you can see just how much they trust you with a few simple tests. If you carry a cat by holding it around its ribcage just below its front legs, it'll do one of two things. Either pull its tail towards its genitals, which means it doesn't trust you so much. this is usually mostly done by kittens as a reflex. The secodn thing you can do is massaging its paws, both on the paw and between the toes. If it pulls its paws away, it means they don't completely trust you. A cat with complete trust in you will let you play with any part of their body without protest.

In Chasym's case, the kitten will most likely NOT pull its paws away, since it considers you her mother, which is why it follows you around.

I dont know what can actually teach a cat not to scratch things short of hitting them, and Im not going to hit them, lol. Telling them to stop (lol like that will work anyway) and loud noises just dont work, but snapping my fingers sometimes does, because theyll walk over to me after that. They still dont learn not to scratch things though, they keep doing it. I also did mention buying scratch posts and toys for them

Also, I play with my cats, and have scars and such on my hands from where Ive been scratched/bit by them, and its really just playing gently. These have been from toms and girls, so its not whether its a boy or not.

The cats will grab your hand with their claws out, and bite you, and use their hind legs and scratch the crap out of your hand, lol. I dont know why they like doing this, but they do, and they do it just for playing with them.

Edit: For some odd reason, I have a piece of Bustaballs sig in mine... wtf

im really happy your cat is ok
