Was curious to know if anyone has completed this quest with their NPC where you fight a lvl 50 cap BCNM in Fei'Yin, with a weapon other than "sheild + ______".

I was reading a few posts from other people, as well as a guide and it recommends that you give your NPC a shield.

I've traded my NPC quite a few different scythes, and I think she is just 1 trade away from the final weapon I can trade her and I didn't want to lose the weapon I already gave her... so is it possible to go in and have her using scythe to defeat this bcnm? Or is it really needed to have her with a shield to protect us both from the special move (blighted gloom I think?)

Also, what jobs are recommended for this bcnm?

I don't think the weapon really matters, I had mine using a GKT on the Stalwart Shield job to counter Blighted Gloom. Just let the NPC tank and keep it alive.

i went in as mnk/nin, npc with gkt and set to soothing healer. was uderequipped and took in no meds besides reraise and food. didnt even use hundred fists, although if i did prolly woulda set record. just make sure to take off runnin down that hallway when the demon starts his lil speech and you'll avoid the gloom. i even got hit with it once, ran back too soon, still won obviously, but i wouldnt recommend gettin hit with it twice

Thanks, I feel more comfortable hearing that its been beaten without changing my NPC's weapon to a sheild and axe/sword, because I really didn't want to have to change it back to my preferred weapon after the BCNM.

And thanks for the extra info Isomiau, i'll probably try taking it as a WAR/NIN to hopefully add in a little damage.

Did this a couple weeks ago as DRG/RDM with my level 48 NPC set to Soothing Healer (she's armed with a great katana). I lost the first couple of fights before I figured out that I could run the hell away from Blighted Gloom. That's the important bit: run the hell away from Blighted Gloom! Your NPC will counter with Blessed Radiance, take very little damage, and do a massive amount of damage to Vassago. Once I got that figured out, the fight was cake, even though I didn't get the kill shot on Vassago.

My wyvern did.

Siggy.
