So I was driving in my car today for 2 hours, and while I shoulda been paying attention to the ice on the road, I started thinking about XI. I was thinking of how everyone does the same missions. So who's the hero of the story if everyone is doing it? We can't ALL be the heroes, how unrealistic!

So I started thinking of what I think would be a kickass MMO (imo) and I am sharing my idea with ya'll. Coz...I feel like it<3

So my idea, put bluntly, is to make each individual server a unique world, and npc's to be nearly indistinguishable from pcs.

(While I was on the road, my ideas were more well-formed and eloquent, but I'm sick. Bare with me.)

I want NPCs to recognize PCs, as if those PCs were always part of the script.

Example:

NPC: Oh, hello! How is that quest I gave you going? Need help finding those apples? I know Rababalouche* knows how to get some!

*Rabababalee is a dude that has interacted recently with that NPC, probably helping to get apples.

Or...

NPC: Can you go kill effin' Mercutio** for me?!??? He effin' stole my apples!

**Mercutio is a PC that stole the NPCs apples.

So you can build up a rep with the NPCs, see?
And do stuff like that!

You can even give quests!

PC: Hey! I need some apples for crafting! Go get me 10! (Reward: 10 Gold*1 and 1000 XP*2) [accept] [decline]

*1 the gold comes from the PCs own pocket
*2 the XP is from the alotted amount of XP your allowed to give per day, depending on your lv and the quest-takers level.

There can even be missions, like "story line" missions, that directly involve a PC. Like a PC builds so bad of a rep with the NPCs, and he's so tough, that he becomes the "main bad guy".
Because of this, no two servers "stories" are the same.
This would have to be a very in-depth and detailed game in order to accomplish any of my ideas... :(

It would also require alot of...supervision! I imagine GMs here and there and everywhere, disguised as normal PCs, making sure people don't abuse the system. And the GMs can even look at players and their personalities and label them with titles like..."Xxcloudxx the Tyrant", "Haydin the Hermit", "Mercutio the Apple Thief", depending on how they play and act.

And holy hell, my heads in a fog and I forgot all the billions of other ideas I have. And I'm just sharing for the heck of it. I have more ideas, but...thoughts so far? Can something like this ever happen? With all unique missions and stories in an MMO??

!!

It's highly possible whenever the next generation of systems/hardware comes out for public use, sounds like a blast.

I always wanted an MMO where the player can, through lots of work, take over the entire world (or at least one kingdom here and there) and like.. become the king :P and then can be overthrown by other players, etc.

thatd be awesome even set laws, and say have a "brutality" setting on your gaurds.
So you can have a good kingdom with rights and all that stuff, or have an evil kingdom and just be an overall tyrant. Rule with an iron fist. XD

The only issue I see happening is on PC quests and the gold rewards. They'd have to be a set standard issues by the game server rather than out of pocket. People would avoid doing pc quests because of losing money. Or just using auctions.

They do. It's called Lineage(II).

There was an MMO named Achea that had EVERYTHING player run. Shops, government, everything was in control of the players.

Of course, it was text based, but still lots of fun.

There was a game called Two Worlds that I recommend to exactly nobody. The online component of the game was more-or-less a landgrab for reputation. Example:

Someone puts together runes to create a spell that heretofore hasn't existed on the server yet. Instead of just creating Firaga II, the player gets to name it, and could quite literally create "Lyall's Bad-guys-go-boom" spell. Every player who combines those runes in the future will cast MY spell, name and all.

The game blows. Don't touch it. There's hope, though. There's always hope.

Edit: My example came from a review in I think EGM, god rest its soul. I dabbled with the single player at a friend's house and it was just awful, though I didn't actually play it online. Still, avoid it like the plague.

My 7th grade English teacher's husband was the editor of GameNOW the spinoff of EGM mags. lol

Really? O.o I never knew Lineage had such. But I wonder if it's in the grand scheme I have. I mean, I always wanted MMOs with castle building, defending, and seiging and a few are getting into that (WoW, Age of Conan) but they aren't in the form I envisioned either :P but my visions are always so grand and ideal that they might not be implementable yet...

Yes, Lineage II has castles, that clans claim. Other clans siege. The only thing is that sieges are scheduled ahead of time(always held on weekends IIRC,) but this is more of a way to ensure that the battle is the biggest it can be and prevent people from just ninja capturing them in the early AM hours.

Occupying clan can set things like taxes at the castle towns shops, which goes to the castle vaults, which the clan leader can empty and spend as (s)he (un)selfishly sees fit.

StarWars Galaxies was like this as well. Only thing NPC ran were the important story plot cities and their basic shops. Player towns had to tax residents for upkeeps, which include service buildings like shuttle ports and any hired NPC arms like Storm Troopers or Rebel soldiers.

Hmm, I should check out Lineage games. But, I still bet they're not have it as crazy as I'd want but, again, that'd be hard to do. Still, sounds fun.
