I'm currently leveling monk which is level 31 at the moment, and i just wanted to know if any other monks could give me advice or tips to take monk from my current level to 75. I have war leveled to 37, which i can take monk straight to 75. I know alittle about monk from partying with them at every level.

Gear i have for monk is

O-kotes
Empress Hairpen
Fumas (level39 Haste+3% boots)
Brown Belt (soon)
Elf RSE STR+2 sachet
Nomad mantle
ATk+ earring
HQ str rings
jusutsu ji (soon)
i can't remember the name of the pants lol
Impact knuckles

I was thinking that if i get brown belt at 40 can i switch the str+ rings for sniper's for ACC?

if you have any tips or advice it would be very useful and i thank you very much

Pants should be republican subligar until strike subligar if you can get them; if not, republican all the way to 70+ is fine. Do not, under any circumstances, use akido koshita full time in a party; throwing them on when you pull hate is cool, but they are completely useless at all other times. Also, never, ever, get Arhat's or Rasetsu gear; Arhat's is tanking gear which monk's don't do, and Rasetsu gear is just shit gear.

If you can swing it, I'd go for a Voyager Sallet over emp pin, but emp pin is certainly not a bad option given monk's shitty head gears. Definitely go for snipers, even if you don't have the brown belt right at 40. Stacking STR full-time is useless for monks, stick with sniper's. Even for Raging Fists, I'd stick with sniper's over STR rings(just sell the STR rings off unless you're going to fight tough's or solo/farm); landing another hit will do more than 3 STR will.

Go /WAR all the way to 73-74 when you can start joining cannon parties, then /NIN all the way. /THF is worthless, /SAM is gimp, with /DRG jump pales in comparison to double attack until 70+ when you get high jump.

k those are the pants that i have, and i will use sniper's and thanx

They only have 2 attack, you'd never notice it.

This is all good advice, except I disagree with Baja's choice in pants. I can't honestly remember what I used, but I know it wasn't this. If you wanna get into a big argument over it though I guess I could go look it up.

Go ahead, there was nothing even close to republican subligar last I looked. Just about everyone who didn't wear republican subligar was an idiot who cared more about looks than stats.

pubsub -> strike subligar -> byakko's haidate was the path I took for pants.

I'd suggest camping yourself a pair of Boreas Cesti too. No one really camps it and it's one of the coolest low level r/e weapons out there. I still have my pair, they are fun. I used them for like 10-20 levels I think.

Monk doesn't have much options in pants slot, Republic Subligar(+5 Attack) certainly can get the job done and can be used all the way to 75 (till byakko's haidate), despite the appearance...

Vendor's/Prince's Slops(+3/4 acc) are also good at later level if you need a bit extra accuracy.

It might also be an good idea to have a set of gears mixed with defense/evasion/enmity- for situations like when you pull hate from tank, some ppl may refer it as "OH SHIT" set.

Though defense really means jack shit if you're using counterstance when you get hate anyhow. It comes more into play when taking damage from aoes.

Most above info is pretty good. I'd like to second what Rappa said about Boreas Cesti. They are super fun and one of the best weapons you can use for a while (and great for level capped events). /DRG is actually pretty decent up until level 50 if you have the earring and cape. After that use /WAR but don't be afraid to use NIN sub to mitigate damage in parties if you somehow end up pulling too much hate.

Thank you for mentioning the Boreas Cesti Rappa.

I can't honestly believe any MNK would go past level 30 without these. Please make a note of clicking on the link Rappa provided and go out there. You will -not- regret having these.

Garrison Hose STR: 1 DEX: 1
That's what I used for the loooongest time(till like, 70? 73? something like that) I'd take that over 5 att any day.

Also, for post 30 weapons, I'd suggest(this is the way I went, so if better weapons have sprung up since them, disregard this):
Boreas Cesti at 30
Mythril Knuckles +1 at 38
Mythril Claws +1 at 41
Patas +1 at 48
Tactician Magician's Hooks at 50 (or CC if you can swing it)
Tactician Magician's Hooks +2 at 52
Hydro Patas +1 at 56 with a hefty supply of hydro pumps
I wanna say there was something that went here but honestly, I can't remember
Destroyers at 73

Maybe if you gave some reason why, I might believe you. I don't remember the inner workings of XI and how damage was calculated anymore so I can't really give a rebuttal. But I used to know, and when I did I determined that Garrison hose was best, and I'm sticking by it unless you can tell me exactly why the subligar is better other than "u stoopid".

Of course it really doesn't matter anymore, I don't even fucking play.

Then you didn't do a whole lot of determining. The effect of 1 STR on melee is lol. The effect of 1 STR on low level weaponskills is also lol.
