So once I got past the first 41 levels I realized MNK isn't as lame as I thought so I have jumped on the bandwagon for now.

Mostly looking for a response from a vet MNK like Skaw or someone but just wondering at 45 if you could have either one which would you choose? I'm thinking woodsmans since the - evasion would be better than -12 defense when i pull hate and get my ass kicked.

- Evasion is probably better to increase chance of guards and counterattacks as well right?

I had a PCC and used Puissances but it's still not what I want, I HAVE to hit every time i swing or im annoyed. So I figure I might do all ACC with my rings and necklace and make up the attk with food like Couerel Subs or something IDK. Heres my set up.

WPN - Mythril +1s the level 38 one with the +3 acc (Cross Counters at 50)
Head - Emp pin
Body - Juji Gi
Rings - Dual Puissance
Legs - Repub Subligar
Feet - Fumaas
Waist - Brown Belt
Back - Nomads +1

I even eat Sole Sushi and still miss here and there and like I said, if I'm not hitting everytime I'm hating life so any comments would be appreciated.

You cant expect to hit every single time,if not,MNKs would be the UBER jobs, just deal with misses man,its not only about your stats, the mob can have high EVA also, dont get worked up,its all just a game

If you're playing Monk/war, berserk and counterstance will wipe your defense anyway.

And since I saw in history that you bought Cross-counters anyway, you ought to focus on that if you get hate. Counterstance + Cross-counters and macros in the Aikido Koshita, Kampfer Ring, and 2 x Avenger's Earrings.

You've got the gil; you may as well.

Yeah, theres no such thing in this game as "100% Accuracy" so dont expect it. The best thing I can say is go with the woodsman cause when you do get hit its nice to have all the Def you can get. I mean common monks wear cloth to a fight.

Well. Sole Sushi is based on a percentage. Try Rice Dumplings. It gives Attack + & a Guaranteed +5 to Accuracy. If that doesn't make you hit everytime, you'll have to sacrifice all the + Atk and STR, for a Jackolantern. +10 Acc.

To find your ACC, add all your pluses to dex in, and Divid by 2. Round down.

Now, take 10% of that. Thats how much ACC + Sole Sushi is giving you.

If I'm mistaken, please someone correct me.

I'd say the snipers +1. Especially if it's irking you not to hit all the time, +eva is nice and all but comes a dime a dozen for alot of monk gear.

Personally right now i'm using battle bracers +1 (switching to AF for chi blasts), a venerer, Shiva claws, and sole sushi and i miss about 2-3 fists per 3-4 fights. While i do sack some attk it's nothing zerk can't make up for and the TP for the SC and burst is far more important than 10-20dmg per fist in an xp pt.

Which is why I say, seriously, it's a lost cause. If you don't want to take damage, macros in all the counter gear you can find, and hit counterstance and dodge. You don't want to lose your evasion. If you get hit, you will take major damage, especially if you're berserked. So unless you want to macros in a bunch of +def gear and have to cancel berserk every time you draw hate (which will likely be frequently if you've got good accuracy and a sub-par tank in the nest), go with the countering route and keep your evasion.

Just wondering, with all the -def from the rings, beserker and all that crap, is it possible to have negative defence? lol j/k but seriously after all that how low can your defence go?

you can gear near close with a bard at 57+...

with SH+1(acc+12), 1 sniper(acc+5), spartan cesti (acc+2) minuet earring(acc+3 w/ minuet), squid sushi, with a bard, i hit 94% acc on low IT to IT++ mobs.

if i had spectacles, id probably have been at 96-97% probably, if not higher.... and i am the same way, i HATE to miss, so. i always party with a bard and a war, and we fill in the group, so i really dont play much with rdms, so cant really comment on how id hit with no bard. in most parties since lvl40 that i parsed, have been averaging 30-45% of damage in the party.
most pld's probably have hated partying with me, i know canadiana wasnt too happy at times when i partied with his nin lol.

if you have any questions let me know.... glad to help

Not trying to hijack, but this may be useful to the subject of the thread as well.

As a 57 monk, when I hit berserk and counterstance, my defense drops to 25-35, depending on protect. I'm pretty sure the rings get factored into the starting def, though, so negative probably won't happen. Also, the end defense is unaffected by whether I hit counterstance or berserk first.

Berserk will not hurt your defense further than counterstance will put it down.

Should you Counterstance, theres no reason to not have Berserk on.

Defense shouldn't really be an issue with MNK, if you get hit, it's going to hurt regarless if you have that 12 DEF or not. It might lower it 3-5 points, but all in all, it's not going to matter much.

-Evasion, it really only increases your chance of guarding and counterattacking because you're going to get hit more often. In no way does it actually boost the efficiency of those skills, it's just a perceptive thing. More hits, more chances. And since Counter and Guard are pretty hit and miss, it can either be a good thing, or an MP sponge thing.

Since you have a Brown Belt, I'd say go for the Sniper+1 if you already have it or want to shell out the extra gil for it. Wait, what am I talking about, ofcourse you already meet those requirements Vang :P

Emp pin is pretty worthless to a MNK as well. I'd recommend getting something with STR and/or VIT. Weaponskills are based off those skills. Outside of Accuracy and Critical chances, DEX and AGI play no feasible role to a MNK. VIT also boosts Chakras cure rate. VITx2 without any enhancements.

Midgame MNK was a long time ago for me, so take anything I say lightly unless it seems like it works today.

GL hitting every single time, because it caps at like 80% like evasion.

Id go snipers+1 and if you really take hate breakout counterstance and have some fun.. with CC's and gear its pretty damn fun. :D

my monk is 55 or 56 or something i cant remember. I just had a total failure on 2 of my HD's and am waiting on warranty replacements ; ;. No way Im attempting to play ffxi on a laptop

I'm pretty sure he wears the Emp. pin for the extra DEX to raise Accuracy cap, if you have low DEX but really high Accuracy bonus's, it will cap out. As so I heard...

DEX in no way affects an Accuracy "cap," for every 2 DEX, you get 1 raw accuracy. As a MNK, he can live without 1 Accuracy.

Any cap in regards to accuracy and evasion are hardcapped extreme limits, unbreakable(thus never having 100% accuracy or evasion)

I'd have to agree with Skaw.. emp pin don't do much.. i'd say get a head gear with as much str as there is.. i think that one Lv40 helmet from CoP NM ah.. forgot the name but i think it gives out STR+4 then just go snipers..

Woodsman if you're getting bone parties, otherwise Sniper's +1 would be fine. And he's probably wearing the Emp Pin because nothing else good is available (I guess Merc. Cpt. Headgear if you want to look like a retard, or maybe Voyager Sallet)

Also get rid of the Fumas, Federation Kyahan parse better, especially if you're eating Sushi.

Yeah, I'd say go for the sniper+1's over the woodsman's. Neither one will really matter, but you'd want that extra 4 accuracy if you're big on hitting every time. Although If I had a PCC and snipers, I'd be eating +attack food rather than sushi, but that's just me.

I agree with Cubs about the boots, although I've only worn my RSE boots since level 29(+3 STR>all). Yours are different though, so that's probably not as good an option.

One thing I'd recommend trying if you can, is get some h2h merits on your ninja, if they can actually level h2h weapons. You'll have a little more accuracy, have a little more attack, and you'll learn your weapon skills at lower levels. Of course, this only works if ninja can even get h2h skill, but I don't know if they can.

Oh, and I'm wearing Garrison hose over a republic subligar.

There's more to it than that... the below is all speculated, but it's speculated strongly and agreed to by various nerds on Alla who do nothing but test and test and test stuff like this all day long.

For every level of weapon skill you have, you gain 1 base attack and 1 base accuracy. In the lower levels (whenever your attack is <80 or so; varies by job), fixed-acc food such as Jack-o-Lantern (+10 acc) will be better than, say, Bream Sushi (+16% acc). As your base attack rises though, Sushi will by far outweigh fixed-acc food.

Right now, with a Great Axe in my hands, my base atk is somewhere in the 280s (before +atk gear). That means, theoretically, that my base atk is also somewhere in the 280s. Bream Sushi gives +16%, which is ~45 acc. These work much the same as +atk foods such as Mithkabobs, only with atk food you can immediately and directly see your atk rating increase.

At Vang's level, Dumplings are not a viable food. Particularly for what he wants.
