This one is awesome, it reminds me of Harajuku... The rest kind of look like weird ugly stuff hot topic kids would wear.

Well made though

gothic lolita 4tw

I really like the one with the yingyang on the back of it, not cause of the ingyang tho, cause of the colors.

It looks like they finally updated that site... Time for me to start leeching again.

Is there a way to view the text in English? Or spanish or ancient greek? I haven't gotten to Japanese yet. :(

You can try to use a translator like babel fish, but it doesn't work too well. For the most part you don't need to understand JP. Look for a user to post a screenshot, then check a little ways down for a post by the same user with an orange paper icon (click to download). You can then use babel fish to translate the file names from kanji into English if you have East Asian Languages installed or just do a guess and check to figure out what each .DAT is.

Thanks, Rones!

I don't suppose there's a post that teaches how to switch the .Dat files? I'm a bit new to that sort of thing and don't want to mess up and have to reinstall (I think my char would be safe even if I did, correct?).

Val

First, the only tool you will need is model viewer. Download some .DAT files you like from the site. Translate the file names into English if you want (makes storing them for later much more effective). Now load up model viewer and find what piece of equipment you want to replace. Every race, sex, armor spot, and piece has it's very own .DAT file. Thus if for example you replace hume, female, rse2 hands .DAT file, no other race or sex's rse2 will change. Sometimes though a .DAT image is used by versions of that armor (looks the same, but is different lvl and stats typically). Just something to keep in mind.

Now, for the replacement. After you find that piece of equipment you want to replace, look at the top right corner of model viewer to see a number like 1-53-106. This means that .DAT file is located in rom folder 1, then folder 53 inside that, and finally file 106.DAT. Inside that folder, I recommend creating a folder called 'backup' or something you will know. Cut the .DAT you are replacing and put it in that folder. Having this folder here won't affect your game's perfromance in the slightest. Now move the .DAT file you downloaded into that folder and rename it to match the .DAT you just cut out. The file name should look like '34.DAT" for example with 34 being the file number. After a change, it is highly advisable to double check your change in the model viewer. If it is correct and looks alright, you are set. If nothing changed....it likely means you pasted in the wrong file or changed the wrong file and should probably repost your backup file into it to undo whatever armor you unknowingly changed.

Hope that explains the process pretty well.

I know Rones has probably answered this for me before.

Even though I'm trying to make a huge DAT collection and .ZIP 'em up,
it's so frustrating file swapping and rooting around all those oddly-named
files.

That Mega-whatsits program you sent me, Rones. Can that open .DATs?

I'm seeking an appication that can atleast open these .DATs and allow me
to view them without any actual file-swapping, so I can just rename these
damnable files and put them in appropriate folders.

If anyone knows, or if you know, Rones, it'd be greatly appreciated.

My first thought upon seeing this topic was "goth lolita 4tw" but then I saw that Pannda already posted it. :(

There's no program that lets you change them directly without lots of file swapping that I know of. There are programs that can open and edit them, but if I remember right you have to use another program to recompile them into .DAT format so ffxi can use them.

If you can locate said program, that'd make things much easier.

1. Export with Modelviewer as a .mqo file.

2. Open the .mqo in MetasequoiaLE* and re-save.
*The registered version supposidly exports as .obj but I haven't been able to test it. There is also no current way to get a registered version as the author won't accept international payments.

3. Shade* can import .mqo (originally a Japanese program) and export as different formats including .obj You will need the mqo plugin.
*Trial version available for download, but haven't tested it and I don't know what the limitations are.

3a. There may be a program that can convert from one file format to another, but currently I have not found any that works between mqo/3ds/lwo/obj

You could ask around the Maya development community and see if there are any plugin writers that might be able to figure out how to make one. The author has the source available on his site if they could make use of referencing how the MAX plugin works. http://sio29.sakura.ne.jp/maxplg/maxplg.html

Just found this on ffxionline.com. Is that what you are looking for?

Not quite.

Don't really wanna edit the files in any way, I just want to open the .DATs
to see what they look like (so I can re-name them accordingly), without
having to open the FFXI Root Folder, File Swap, then figure out the file
name...

In laymen's terms, a Model / DAT viewer that I can simply browse my
directories with and load from any location without having to move them
all to one folder.

I went to that site. Leave it to the Japanese to bring Bukkake skins into a video game! I would love to be walking through Jeuno seeing a bunch of Hume Females running around with man cream all over their face, chest, and crotch.
