My Account was Hacked :(

Alright, thank you for the info guys. I'll look into that when I get home.

Just fyi, complaining to the BBB is basically pointless nowadays. Almost every company has a shitty rating because people complain about EVERYTHING, thus negating the usefulness when people have a legit thing to complain about. You might as well just drop that idea completely and focus on going to S-E directly.

And without the threat of lost business, any complaints made to SE will be filed in the paper shredder. I could write something up and attach 500 character names to it and send it to them...if the accounts aren't going to stop being paid for, there's no reason for them to act.

Falsey:

In the images you posted, your POL ID is listed. Not sure if you intended to disclose this, but it's all the info needed to target you directly. Just my 2 gil. ;)

MOAR POST-CHOPPING BE HERE!

IE is one of the most commonly used browsers by people who don't know better, and is therefore the most targeted, and when this happens, Microsoft is notoriously slow for actually patching the vulnerabilities up.

No. It's used so much because it's packaged with the machines that Windows come on, pure and simple. It's the SAME reason Macintosh users use Safari. They use it because it's on the machine when they buy it.

More apt would be:

IE is the most commonly used browser by people who don't give a shit and just want to browse the web.

I fully agree with you about its lack of security though. Any browser that requires kernel-level access to the OS is a piece of shit that needs to gtfo my machine.

So, any complaint written to SE would go unnoticed if I didn't threaten to take my business (serious or not) elsewhere? Goddamn, make up your mind jam...

I say I'm not going to buy any further SE product because of the shitty customer service I get. You say "you're wrong because they make a fine product in terms of game design and mechanics." My complaint doesn't get noticed because of this?

I don't dispute that; they really do make some fine games. But if I buy another SE game that comes out of the box scratched or with NO data on the disc, my vendor, be it Best Buy, Circuit City, or who the hell ever will not take it back as a return simply because it's "opened merchandise" (a bullshit policy itself). My only recourse is to send a copy of the receipt and the disc to SE, and hope to God they send me a replacement.

If it's not in the Customer Service Rep's "power to replace a shitted up disc", and refuses to do so, then I'm fucked. How's that for customer service then? Kinda the same principle. NOT THE SAME IN PRACTICALITY FOR ALL YOU SEMANTICS WHORES OUT THERE.

Do you seriously enjoy these tangents you go on that have nothing to do with the posts you quote? A fucking scratched disc on an open-box item is not even close to the situation we're discussing. Stop fucking pulling one line quotes out of 8 pages of discussion and learn to read the entire line of discussion the responses are coming from. Notice how I ignored your stupid replies before...I can't do it twice in a row. If you don't know how to properly follow a thread of discussion, then don't respond.

I just have problems with those who feel their opinion is right about every single thing they talk about, even when they're not qualified to do so.

Let me highlight what i said before for you.

Then prove me wrong dipshit. Don't talk about a scratched disk when the discussion is on a petition regarding Security measures.

If you're talking about being qualified to talk about things, I guess we should disgregard every FFXI post you've ever made...I sure as hell know you've discussed things in End-game discussion.

I'm giving an alternative viewpoint and explained my thought process behind it. Others agreed with me. You don't. Big fucking deal.

Anyone can look up my POL ID in game. My PW is stored on the SE server, and if the hackers could hack that, then there would be no need for Keyloggers. I can list my POL ID all over the web and not get hacked.

Marked difference is that when I post in end-game discussion, I usually have a disclaimer reading "but I don't do end-game yet, so don't really take what I say at face value."

This discussion wasn't initially about Security measures, it was about Jussy's hacked accounts, and his/her exploits to retrieve said account. It turned into the gigantic cluster-fuck it is now because of a plethora of bad information.

If you're posting with a disclaimer or not, it doesn't matter. Don't discuss what doesn't involve you. That's as assanine an excuse as Talladega Nights when Will Ferrel says, "What, I said with all due respect". Your posts hold 0 value there. This is Final Fantasy XI GENERAL DISCUSSION. I AM INVOLVED IN FFXI. MY POSTINGS ARE RELEVANT.

I still haven't read a relevant word to where the discussion was. I don't need a disclaimer when you can't come up with a better example of how I'm wrong other than a scratched CD...

If you don't like reading my posts, by all means use the ignore function.

Knowing someones POL-ID makes it a lot easier to hack someone. Not knowing it means you need to make up a POL-ID and hope its an actual POL-ID

I don't. The Bureau is a highly effective tool. Is Square-Enix USA based in San Francisco? You could even file a report with their Chamber of Commerce on the horrific customer service you're getting.

I had to do the exact same things with a company around here.

I believe SE: A is based out of LA. Yes the BBB works wonders some times.

ActiveX is worthless aside from creating the biggest security hole you can find on a machine, IE is one of the most commonly used browsers by people who don't know better, and is therefore the most targeted, and when this happens, Microsoft is notoriously slow for actually patching the vulnerabilities up. It also lacks features, control, and compatibility with W3C (web page coding) standards.

Edit: This post
http://www.qcdn.org/ffxi/showpost.php?p=800142&postcount=22

There are plenty of security holes in both of them. Firefox is only used by 35% of people browsing the internet while IE is used by 55% of people browsing the internet. Firefox is more secure in the same way Macs are more secure, no one cares to target a smaller group of people. Although, now that it is actually getting some attention from users, and getting to be famous for being more secure, more people will start using it, and more people will start writing malicious code to exploit it.

I have been using nothing but IE 6 and Norton 2007 on my computer for about a year and I haven't had a virus since January (got norton 2007 in February).

This whole bit with firefox being better is complete bullshit. If you want your machine to be secure, do some research and find out how to protect yourself.

The only thing about IE that is unsecure is activeX. Firefox doesn't support ActiveX. If you want to be more secure, disable it. You may consider that to be an extra unneccesary step when you could just use firefox. It isn't. If you use Firefox, you should still open up IE and disable it. Yeah, and you will still need to keep IE on your computer for things like windows updates and those web sites that don't work with firefox.

Firefox offers a fix for this. It opens up IE and uses it to do your windows updates.

Are there any firefox users here that DON'T still have IE installed on their computer? No. Of course there aren't. The program is going to be there and you are going to have to use it no matter what. You might as well make it secure.

Or you could pretend like it doesn't exist and be lulled into a false state of security by using firefox. Even though IE is still on your computer, and still as vulnerable as it was before. So firefox users have to deal with vulnerabilities from 2 programs. How is that possibly any more secure?

IE is too engrained into the OS, that's why I won't fucking touch it with a bargepole. I don't want my Internet Browser having that amount of access to my Windows files.

It's still there, and it still has the same amount of access.
Well, it depends. Its part of Explorer, and Windows uses some of its files (rather then the other way around...) However, not using Internet Explorer to browse the internet is still safer, as IE isa piece of crap.

There is actually a way to "uninstall" it, which I won't go through as it can seriously fuck up your computer. If you're interested in how to do it, google it. You could actually completely remove IE from your computer before XP, but as I stated, Windows XP now actually use parts of IE, rather then IE using parts of Windows.

lol come hack me then.

btw if you look on this site, this picture has been here for 2+ years. i posted it originally when i left.

I never said I would. I simply stated its easier to do it knowing it, than not knowing it.
