My Account was Hacked :(

Then they deserve to get hacked. Watch the movie Idiocracy: http://imdb.com/title/tt0387808/

Smart people ponder too much on plans for childbirth, while stupid people just go out and mate. 500 years in the future, the world is run by hick rednecks, the number one tv show is 'Ow, I got kicked in the nuts!'

If you're not smart enough to turn on virus protection after turning it off...chances are your not smart enough to handle a lot of other tasks and should be spending time bettering yourself rather than playing a video game. The hackers are doing a favor.
I've seen that movie.

And we didn't say that the people that got hacked are those said people. We just stated that the shown screenshot does in no way show that SE is to blame for it. Because it is assumed that people are not stupid enough to forget to turn it on again.

I'll say it again, SE are in no way responsible for the hackings this time, and that is why a lawsuit against SE for it is going to fail. The only thing they're at fault for is their lackluster customer service. However, they're still operating under their own directions and guidelines and are thus, theoretically, doing nothing wrong. Technically, they're not really doing anything wrong either. Ethically, however, is a whole other ball game.

The quote I originally brought that point up to was this:
Not to imply that the people who got hacked don't have any, as this is something that was (for the most part) unavoidable, but just because you may have the common sense to turn off and on your anti-virus software, doesn't mean that your neighbor does.

Example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McDonald's_coffee_case
The above implies that SE should be held liable because people are just that stupid. Just as McDonalds was held liable for not having their coffee labeled as HOT!!! I remember Letterman after the coffee incident as well. "THIS COFFEE IS DAMN HOT!!!!"

I agree with this statement though.

Bluefrost made that post because a great majority of people are lacking common sense, as with the McDonald coffee case, though, not as a way of saying SE should have been held responsible :P

Im sorry I didn't realize what a group of security experts you all were..wow First off if you followed the warning it is entirley possible you can get hacked, if you knew as much about computers as you think you do then you would know that 2-3 minutes can be a lifetime in the network world.

Second SE has done nothing but issue a statement blaming other sites without any kind of investigation on their part to back up their claim.

Third since you have not been hacked and just so you know what you are in for...

"You downloaded a malicious piece of software" to "You are using illegal 3rd party tools" to "It was your fault, Mr. Customer"

Tell me now that the offending sites have been either shut down or corrected so the most recent hacks on people who had thoroughly checked their systems because of all this and got hacked anyway would be?

Deserve to be hacked... real nice so customers that have followed the same internet practices for years with no issues, the TOS, paid all their fees and bought all the software deserve to get hacked?

What I do know for a fact be it assumption or not is this rash of stolen accounts began on Nov.20 and has been growing ever since (Read Nov.20 since WOTG release) It can be argued it was happening before, which I can buy for a buck but not in these kind of numbers.

It's nice that you all feel you can flame on people as it has not happened to you directly.....but tell me will you all have the same mindset when 3 years of your lesiure time gets taken away from you in a single night? And will you so strongly defend SE when it gives you the same answer as we all have been getting...think about it

Is this your character Jussy?

Old dynamis pic but this is what Jussy's model looks like.

It was a female hume. Thats all I could see. Ran past us 2 times because Serket was up I think.

Well said Metal.

I can't believe some of you are blaming the people who got hacked, you're just as bad as SE. Wanting to play an MMORPG on a computer doesn't make you a computer tech and believe it or not a lot of people use computers strictly for leisure and really don't all the steps that you can take to save yourself from being hacked. Expecting everyone who plays this game via PC to know all this is like expecting everyone who drives to know how to change their brake pads and rotors. Totally ridiculous.

I hope you all get your accounts back - you're not cheaters and hackers, you're just people who hit a snag of bad luck :/

I hope RMT hack my account too. I've said it countless times, its the only way I could quit.

Go back to the early posts in this thread. I told Hells I felt bad for him. Then he posted the Honcho issues.

Its a whole different ballgame now.

Learn to read the entire board, not just one thread before you give your all-knowing comments dipshit.

Yes, it is your fault for going to possible leery websites and not having correct security procedures on your machine. SE is providing a gaming service, not a babysitting service. As was mentioned earlier in this thread, be glad it was just a ffxi account that got hacked, and that your Credit Cards weren't phished while making an online purchase. If I got hacked, I'd at least have the balls to hone up and say 'Maybe I shouldn't have done that', rather than starting a stupid fucking petition to SE to change their security methods.

If you take a serious look at internet security, as you should with any internet proceeding, you'll begin to realize that being a dumbass doesn't pay when you're dealing with hackers.

I cant see me in the picture, but I assume it's me. I did have ninja at 75 with haidate and O hat. Also, Jussy isnt a common name and my character (according to FFXIAH) is the only Jussy on all servers. (It moved from Quetz to Asura) Are you on Asura?

Sharpe and Chii are now on Asura. That is almost certainly your character from what you've said and what we've seen.

Regardless of what lead people to believing that SE needs to change their policy, it's a well-supported arguement. PoL claims that they associate account ownership with CC info, yet you do not need to present current CC info (i.e. prove you are the account's owner) in order to change it to a new credit card. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that that is seriously flawed logic. Therefore, yes, either policy or security or something on their end needs to be changed. Yes, it is the user's responsibility to protect themselves from hackers and the like, however, I don't think the arguement is who is at fault, rather who can do something about it once it happens. My arguement is that when an account does get compromised (for whatever reason) SE should be able and willing (keyword: willing) to get it back to you.

Edit: Nor do I consider FFXIAH or FFXIclopedia to be "leery websites."

Edit: What I mean is that if I have sucky internet security and i get my account hacked and items taken, then that's my consequence to bear. However, losing an account for good is an excessive punishment. Calling PoL and giving a list of personal information, registration codes, and the CC that was used the past 3 1/2 years should cut it, and they should reset my password. If that doesnt work, seeing how CC info changed, the character was looted, and then moved to another server should be a pretty big flag that something fishy just happened and that I am telling the truth. SE should allow their representatives to use their own brain, but as is, policy has them by the balls.

You still somehow gave someone your account information, Ie Username and password. The fact that you didn't know you were doing it isn't a legit argument...you did, and because of that, thats all that has EVER been needed to change CC information. You can't cry wolf now simply because you've been wronged. Where were people bitching about this 4 years ago when the policy came out?
You agreed to the license agreement, or you wouldn't have been playing this game.

I did not give my information, it was taken via a trojan virus. Don't tell me you actually read the fine print on the policy before you played. Even if someone did, the true potentiallity of the threat cannot be understood by reading policy outlines. The fact that someone took my account info ILLEGALLY is a very "legit" arguement, sir. Also, I havent seen any written policy stating anything to the affect of "If your account ID/PW are compromised, you could lose the account permanently, because we take no common sense realistic counter-measures"; what I've been explaining has come to my attention verbally from representatives.

Edit: Did you read Post #10? It reads, "How my account was compromised is not the issue; how to get it back is. Please stay on topic."

Yes, we are on Asura. I will try to take a better SS when I see that Jussy next time

Okay thanks. If at all possible, I would like to see who my character is running around with so that I may submit their names to GMs and the STF.

Of course its the Hack-ee's fault. Just like its a rape victim's fault for the way she (or he O_O) dresses. Or its a Video games/movies fault for when some kid with no parental influence goes off the deep end.

I love how its never the person that commits the act fault anymore.

Most of you guys are just arguing for the sake of it now. (I.E. Being dickholes) I Hate it for you guys that lost accounts hope you can get some sliver of your characters back somehow :(

Carry on!

Smartest comment I've read in a long time.

This is the dumbest post I've read in a long time. Maybe your next argument will be that this is the fault of the people who were hacked because they didn't have their attorneys look over the TOS before they started playing too? Where's that common sense you were just talking about? I don't see it anywhere in this post.
