My Account was Hacked :(

I do not think that all of the people hacked were idiots.

I do because they're not using something to protect themselves from a virus. If they were smart they'd have a quick scanner, like the one on the yahoo toolbar, after something they did not know what was to quickly scan their system. If it is a rootkit I believe Dowzer quoted someone from BG with a link to a good rootkit scanner.

Seriously this is easily preventable if you just be smart about what you browse. Run a daily scan with one scanner, a weekly if not daily root scan, have another back up scanner run every other day, and maybe have a fourth sweep once a week. Yes I scan my computer a lot.

That is a bit excessive. Well... a lot excessive. Boardering on obsesive compulsive. But at the same time, if you have a computer you are entering CC info into, you really should try and be thorough.

One of my friends had it. He has anti virus software, pop up blockers, ad ware removal tools, and lives with a programmer. It wasn't his fault he had it, as he did nothing wrong. Generally speaking, he did everything right. Except for using activex that is.

Did I mention you shouldn't use activex yet? Because you shouldn't.

Did you miss the part where most virus scanners didn't pick this up?

If you have nothing constructive to ad, then please stfu. My first degree is in computer programming and I have many close friends still in this field. Until it is defined how they were hacked I would appreciate you find something more constructive to web surf over.

Don't waste your breath; remember, it's the hacked's fault.

.rm was a horrible format 10 years ago when music was in .mp2s, why would anyone have Realplayer on their computers nowadays? It's just a horrible product excluding all of the security problems apparently associated with it.

Its preloaded on most PCs, like mine, and I use it because I hatehatehate Windows Media player because it takes forever to load up. I just want to double click my music files, and have them start playing in 2 seconds. I'd use VLC for my music but for some reason the G15 media control buttons don't work on VLC.

Norton and AVG don't find it, nor to most scanners because its not in thier definitions yet (and i check for updates daily). The only way people are finding them is through a MANUAL scan for SPECIFIC files in the registry.

Norton caught Hacktool.Rootkit and Infostealer.Gamania the same day a lot of these people got hacked. Dec 3rd I believe it was, I would have to look at the logs.

I was trying to look for something on FF Somepage, and my PC locked up for a few moments than went crazy blocking stuff. I looked in the log to WTH is was lol, and it was those 2 things.

Guess I should thank my lucky stars. I have a firewall as well and other safeguards, and it still got to the last line in the antivirus, which concerns me, as to just how close I got to having my account taken.

I wish you guys all luck and good wishes, and I hope you get your accounts back, and you shouldn't be blamed or talked about for another person commiting a crime against you.

Edit: And in the log where it says the date the definition was received or updated with the most recent version it says n/a, the only 2 like that, so I really don't know how it caught them.

Hello
please do not de-rail tis thread
for up to date info about hacked accounts find main thread on BG

So, hopefully I can get around to filing a complaint with the BBB tomorrow. I know several people are skeptical about its effectiveness, but I guess it can't hurt.

This is where the rootkit comes in as it will scan for things that a normal scanner wouldn't scan for.

Don't just use the quick scan. Scan the whole thing every file every time. If you have to set up your computer to alert you when something goes on if you're using internet explorer or even firefox.

Yes Trippy I realize I am quite compulsive on scanning, but CC info does get put onto my laptop as well as other information so I try to make sure if there is a virus on here it gets nuked to hell and is gone.

People got hacked even a week after specific name of the keylogger files were found. People are STILL getting hacked. If they didn't follow the instructions to find the files manually over a week after said files were found... It COULD have easily been prevented had they done so.

This fits in to the "It won't happen to me" category found above.

And the people who got hacked before anyone knew anything about it? Is it still their fault?

... For the tenth time, where did I ever state it is their fault? Please do quote me. I'll even give you 9 hours to do so as I am going to work now.

Did I say it was you who said that? It's not always about you, Uzor.

I don't. The Bureau is a highly effective tool. Is Square-Enix USA based in San Francisco? You could even file a report with their Chamber of Commerce on the horrific customer service you're getting.

I had to do the exact same things with a company around here.
