My horror trip to lebanon.

LOL No I don't believe everything I read. What I do believe are the published documents of respected legal experts over some joe average male who lives there. I would hope that would be the case for most people, but apparently not. Personally, I choose to be informed and not accept the word of one random person.

QFT and the fact that said average joe has been spouting lies all over the shop.

And I highly doubt that any man living there has had first hand experience as acutely as the women there whom the law targets.

Well, as someone who visits the region frequently, I can with 100% conviction say that I have not come across any of this. It doesnt mean that it doesnt happen, but it infers its not as widespread as your legal 'experts' say it is. And yes, when it happens it is a terrible thing.

edit: just out of curiousity, who are your experts?

Seriously hope you don't expect stuff like that to go on in tourist areas do you?

who said i was in a tourist area? dont make assumptions. My work requires me to spend time in remote areas of Palestine and Jordan where there are rarely any tourists.

Sharpe said:
Well last time I checked (I may be wrong) Jordan and Palestine's legal systems aren't influenced by Sharia Law as much as Syria, Saudi Arabia and Iran's are.

There are sharia influences in those contries, as the majority of the population is sunni. When you get to the outlying areas away from urban population centers, you see a higher adherance to sharia law. Regardless, the point I am tryin to make is for people not to judge soley on what they see on the news, or hear from 'experts' b/c many times theres an agenda.

Yeah I agree however there was a case widely publicised the other day of a 16 year old girl hung for sleeping with an unmarried man. There was a picture of 4 people hanging from cranes for such "crimes".

Well, thats terrible, i wont argue that. But the middle east isnt the only place this happens. As for sharia law, it may have some percieved negative aspects, but there are also positives. Crime rates are low, rapes are low, little to no drug abuse, low incedence of aids, low childbirth out of wedlock to name a few. Keep in mind peoples values are different and one way is not necassarily better then another.

You kid yourself. It has been documented. And I'm sorry but just because you visit there frequently doesn't mean you have any clue about what legal processes are going on. I could live in washington D.C. for the next year and still not be able to give you a reliable and knowledgeable account of the legal goings on there. There's some legal injustice happening in the US right now. I've lived here my whole life. I don't know about all of it, but you don't hear me saying "Yeah, that must not happen so much because I've never seen it." That's like saying you can't see genocide happening in Dharfur so it must not really be happening.

And I'm not in the habit of carrying around a bibliography of books read, I'm sorry to say. lol You can do a search at your local library for reams of legal information on the subject. That's what I did for my information. If I can locate my old research on the subject, I will give you some resources.

Maybe you're a walking encyclopedia, but I read many books and don't have the habit of memorizing the names of the people who wrote them. I'm sorry I didn't do research to answer a post on a forum board. But you must have missed where I said if I can locate the information I will post it here.

And I don't need to reread what you said. I read it the first time where you said it must not be as widespread as the legal experts say. Because your personal knowledge is more impressive or accurate than legal experts who know the laws inside and out. Oooookay...

look, im not disputing that when that happens its a bad thing because it is. What i am disputing is the frequency of these events and the way you take one aspect of sharia law as an arguement. You make it sound like its going on all the time, and all im saying is it isnt. You can think that their way of life is barbaric etc, but that doesnt give anyone the right to change it. The only way things can change is from within, forcing people to adhere to your values will never work.

I think the threads been derailed for a few pages now... Israel is still killing civilians. (heh, yeah, that was a one sided statement...and I know hizbullah is firing rockets, but at the moment Israel has killed way more)

edit: ff is up, probably wont be back tonite (gogo blu af)

You need to read that law a little more carefully. If a woman who is married claims to be raped and can't supply the 4 male witnesses, she can be accused of adultery and it is punishable by death. I've read tons of material on women's rights regarding this law, and none of it from anything as shaky as wikipedia. I know how that law works, and I don't need to live there to know it.

well i live there

and iam from saudi

Palestinian-Israeli conflict won't be a conflict if they're all dead. Iran has nuclear warfare and funds terrorism, as does Syria. Kill them too. Simple fact is, when the civilians become the enemies; why keep your troops there? Pull out and fire bomb the hell out of them. Turn the country into one big sheet of glass (As heat temperment upon sand turns sand to glass, hence the "joke"). Though, it's the truth. We have OUR citizens dying for the freedom of Iraqies. There's Iraqi women and children killing our troops because they're over there trying to take care of them? There's attempted genocide over there. There's people dying for religious beliefs. There's people dying for their personal views. There's people dying for being in the wrong place, wrong time. For living their lives. Simple fact is, the evil over in that country is beyond control. Keep your hippy-peace-loving fag bullshit outside of war, cuz it aint going to work.
Rofl Iran is now funding terrorism? haha. You sir are just as bright as a german who thought that Jews were poisoning his waters.I see a genocide coming with all this people being brain washed by the media. And o yea if u wanna talk about shariaa i bet u have read about the Salem witch trials (Did i spell that shit right??) in which living human beings were burnt to roast beef... every religion has some extreme in it.If you read bible you'd know that every time u grab ur penis n pleasure with it u are suppose to burn bajillion yrs in hell for it.. but guess what? no one cares.Same way not many of those people care what is being said in the Sharia.
Holacaust is a living example of racism. If you look at germany we all know that the germans who killed so many innocent jews in gas chambers and with starvations were christians.Does that mean all christians hate jews and want to do the same? hellz no it doesn't.Same way if a whacko loses his family to a mis-guided missile n tries to get back at a country,he reflects no one but himself or people with the similar motives. You are an embarrasment to your self and the teachers who failed to teach you the right stuff
