My "New BRD JA" Findings.

Prelude is shit. any decently geared rng will get more benefit from minuetx2. Rng is the most accurate job in the game. suggesting that they need a prelude is quite ridiculous and any rng that isnt up to the standard of eating meat and still having high racc can just pop a sushi instead of meat and take the same 2x minuet that the other DD are taking.

Well only time i have it casted, is for gods to use Throwing Winds.

Can help a bit there i dont have to be alienated?

Also, you are right my bad i havent played RNG in exp pt in a while

You do realize that prelude is single target anyway, right? ;P

you speak as if the nin/drk cant survive on refresh from a rdm alone(aka they actually use thier nin tools). The nin would benefit from 2x march while the pld could have ballad/march.
I'm not even going to dignify that one with a response.........................................

No i didnt know, my bad i dont even have BRD unlocked lol.

Personally i think it still useful atleast a bit.

At the very least it can make BRD easier to play for most people in general.

+48 accuracy bonus, A- skill, +10 acc per equip peice availiable at minimum by lv 75 if by some miracle you need more, a JA that increases acc and atk, a meritable ability that increases accuracy and is normally reserved for ws. That makes rng the most accurate job in the game atm. I dont know of any other job in this game that actively tries to wear as little accuracy as possible to the degree that rng does while still managing to eat meat.

Are you a fucking idiot? Landing ballad on a PLD in normal XP parties is not a problem if they stand in the right place like they should.

Apparently you, good sir, and I played vastly different versions of Final Fantasy XI if your "normal XP parties" actually were comprised of people with half a brain.

I Just tell the people where to stand and sometimes they listen if they don't, oh well.
Positioning should be like this for ballad: BRD > Mage > (Mage) > PLD > Monster < Melee < Melee < (Melee)

Arrow indicate in which direction the players are facing, and parenthesis note that some parties have two mages or 3 melees. Since some mobs have front AoE, mages can just stand diagonal of the tank, up, down, or fanned out to avoid. Instead of casting two rotations of ballad, you only have to cast one and focus on backup cures and other healing magic.

In most parties like this you are most likely lower levels hence the PLD, so I bet you don't roam. Due to this there is NO reason anyone should be moving around much. In the case of which you are meriting with a PLD, which I am not against, I'm sure the PLD would want to use a DD setup and have aggressive songs rather than ballad.

It's not like a thf might try something like using trick attack on a goddamned tank every once in a while and not notice that ballad is being cast eventually.
It's not like a blu might be trying to face a mob for a gaze spell which just might be in the area that a ninja is in which causes them to miss ballad.
Oh no. that never happens and it would be unreasonable to simply ballad the blu to increase thier damage output and usefulness to the pt vs them stopping thier fighting mid battle whenever you ballad the backline jobs and losing out on the chance to dispel or whatever other important thing they might be doing like stunlocking a mob.
It's also quite silly to think that if the "main" DD are receiving marches that the rng might want minuet instead of getting a bonus to recast timers while getting nothing for thier actual ability to DD.

I think we can agree this is something that will be useful -in certain situations-. No need to freak out because it's not the 'leet' wonderful /ja you wanted. If you really hate it that bad, ignore it, and be the wonderful super brd you are!!!

Rappa sadly I play the FFXI version you did. ;; Sometimes I wonder where these people come from...

THF situation: TAing takes like 5seconds to do. Chances of getting hit by ballad is low. And 'its not like' im going to recast melee buffs after I do ballad...

BLU situation: Blue mage IS A FUCKING MAGE. Minus the fusion with DD, they are still a MP driven mage class. Giving ballad to them is np, mostly I would tell them to stand near the tank while DDing WHEN they are LOW on MP, when high on mp I hit them up with melee songs for DD simply by saying "Hey dude when your low on mp just come near the tank in ballad range." All during this they are still hitting the mob.

RNG situation: Never had a problem giving a RNG min while giving DD's double march. Sure this can be tough at times, but like I said this like ONE of the uses of the JA.

Your situation: Quite frankly you are making an idiot out of yourself. There's lots of problems a bard can avoid with simple party communication. I do not waste my time with piss poor parties as wouldn't anyone else. Do some research on bard. There's more to the job than making your pretty parses looking decent.

and people wonder why we call you emobrd, think of it this way krono, the ability did nothing to hurt you, if you don't like it don't use it and be happy.

You do realize that a Blu low on mp is gimping his damage (and in the event has healing spells equipped to help out the mages/melee, can't provide backup support) right? Right? That's at least one situation where it is helpful. And I'm retty sure you'll find more uses for it than... Goblin Gavotte.

I never have a problem mixing songs at fafhogg. Nor do I understand what Kirin tp burn has to do with anything, since you just cast two songs with SV+troub+nightingale. And im sure that giving a gimp melee acc songs will still make him gimp, because now he is lacking, march and/or min. And why would you XP with two tanks and two thfs?

It sounds like to me that you just don't understand the fundamentals to bard... Which is why this JA has LITTLE(1 or 2) to no uses.

The reason I'm upset is because I've been waiting for a JA for years with a cool down effect 5mins or lower and this is what I get, ha.

I think its abundantly clear that you are, in fact, God's gift to Bards, are are far and above using this new JA.

This is the one update that I've been looking forward to forever. I was soooo worried that they'd screw this up and make the recast longer then 30 seconds and make this ja useless.

The biggest way I look at this is as a true fix for bard. Yes, positioning and hitting songs on specific people WAS how bard was played.

The biggest thing I was interested in about this was the fact that if you were to look, bards get some of the best melee gear in the game. While it's nothing as amazing as Ares or something, they can get Heca and dusk. Not to mention, take a look at a bard's Relic and some of their AF. I've always been of mind that a bard, while not being a huge DD, can add quite alot. Various reasons. One, they're very versatile. If a bard needs more atk, they can do that. If they need more acc, or haste, they can do those too. While a bard's melee skill isn't amazing, it does allow them to get Evisceration, a great WS. If you were to ask my LS, I've shown over and over now that I'm starting to gear my bard for melee, that I don't do omfg dmg, but I do decent, consistent dmg.

Yes, a bard actually meleeing is situational. I still agree with this. But it also means, that we now have more options when doing other things. Brd/dnc is now a vastly more viable option. It wasn't previously, not because of dmg or anything, but because we did need to run around so much casting songs. Now we can stand in place and melee, gaining tp, helping with erases, even more pt buffs, and heals, while still hitting the mages with ballad, and giving everyone else what they need.

Imho this is exactly what bard needed to go back to, what seems to be, the original intent for bard. Something more along the lines of dancer, frontline support.

Did you just say a bard melee in XP PT?

No..... no really did you?

where do you find the time to do this ever in between songs (march/min) and (ballad/ballad2) and pulls. not to mention keeping mobs slept and keepin your self alive while changing gear to land spells better?

Not every party have I ever been puller. It's rather sad, imo, to think that the player base now believes that onry bards can pull at high lvls. And honestly, I'm not thinking along the lines of meripo, just for the fact that most of those mobs die to fast. But nms, campaign, various other instances, depending on the situation.

Is it situational? Yes. Can it happen and is it possible? For sure, specially at lower lvls when mobs don't die instantaneously, depending on the lvl the JA is gotten. Could it have been done before? Probably not, specially if the bard was pulling.

I'm one to find out new ways to do stuff, and make it work. From my experience, even before this new JA, melee bard does work in party, but that mostly revolves around whether or not they're pulling.

But as I said, it's not necessary for a bard to always pull. Thieves love invites at high lvls, since they almost never get them.

And ask my LS. I've pulled the numbers to prove that it's perfectly viable to melee as brd/nin, and I'm even taru.

I don't even know what to say to this. I'll try to think of something when I stop laughing.

they came from.....under the stairs. :shok:

Krono, this JA is a welcome addition no matter ho you slice it. now i no longer have to suffer with melee songs on the off chance that im in range when the bard has to double Madgrial the party for those goddamn mamool ja lurkers. i can get my prelude/madrial back no sweat.

thats just one example out of many. it could be fun to double minne a PLD for HNM kiting. thie JA was created for bard to not be hindered by plaer placement and to have FUN. not to make them superleet bragging machines.

that job trait is reserved for Summoners.

What's your gear like for TPing and WSing when you melee in Parties? This is at 75 or at 12?
