N00btards and PLs

loldunes...

when i take my whm for a spin in there i can knock out banish while main healing, not too difficult really tbh, heck i tanked an IT+ Goblin Butcher with my WHM at 14. ah funny pt that, they all sucked. lol XD

Invited a WHM today lv 12, asked if i had a PL and the party set up.
NIN DRK MNK WAR BLM and needed a whm. He liked the set up but because no PL he said no to invite... if had a PL why would i be asking a WHM to party?

I will only stay with a party with a PL if I have a job that doesnt get invites often. I hate PL's, I still am a firm believer that they severely lower the "learning curve" on 99% of the jobs, allowing the players to play horribly, and still kill mobs. Tank doesn't have to hold hate, cause PL will take it with cures, and this also means that DD (especially BLMs) don't have to learn how to hold back. Most of the party doesn't even have to learn how to kill effeciently, because long fights won't be as much of a problem with a high lvl character's MP pool. Imho, PL'ing is the primary reason we have noobs as high as the 50's.

last time i lvld through the dunes i was brd and mnk and pld with my rdm o.O and only got melee characters to beat shit if at all.... F that, there isn't much effort to mnk at that lvl THF took more effort then mnk at that lvl. and my bard was puller/buffer o.O damn pl'd nooobs.

Then again i'm trying this new thing called play only 1 character and i'm going through the dunes again soon... im thinking solo with selbina milk and exp ring would be faster

"hey can you {help me out}? i need tele-dem, I'm LV18 I'll die going through dunes alone"

"hey you just sitting in selbina right? come PL us @ <pos >"

I PL myself <.< I prefer soloing for 10k/hr in the dunes over partying xD

chain 5 for 200+ exp ftw.

Although it does depend on the job. Its hard to get 10k/hr soloing as WHM or any other MP dependent job xD

Edit: Yeah, I don't like noobtards either. When I join a party, I usually don't PL. I put my mages through bootcamp. I teach them MP management the only way it can be taught; by forcing them to main heal and constantly keep pulling things without allowing them to rest, thus constantly putting them in situations where they run low on MP. At the start of the party I have to backup heal a lot, but towards the end I usually only have to throw out a cure or 2 every now and then :p I think mages hate me =/

Meh...I'd hate you and look at my account and say: I run this shiznit XD
Nah I wouldnt hate you. Some mages need to learn to save MP. But that's not what this is about.

Anyways. I've been a mage for a while and I fairly recently started venturing into being in the "melee world". Not a hard venture but I'm still learning, though it seems cut and dry.

Dunes is like what I dreaded the most while lvling WAR X.x, NIN ;_;, THF and SAM. When I was tanking I liked the thought of having a PL and I would just constantly voke anyways out of habit cause that's what I know to do when the monster isnt looking at me and then the PL's friend would say "DONT VOKE OFF THE PL" (caps and all). While it's fine that PL will barely get hit. I still have to do my job and voke cause sometimes the mob runs in a weird path to attack the person that has it's hate. I think it's fair to let your tank voke off the PL so the hate is not being bounced around cause some parties CAN steal hate from a PL (with a few SATA-WSs and overnukings, etc). That's the only time I've seen a party still turn out bad if the hate is being bounced around. Personally I wouldnt mind a PL just to get the hell out of dunes faster either.

I agree with what was said earlier. If you are so dependent on a PL's abilities instead of your own. You suck. Dunes might be rough but it can turn out very easy with the right set up.

I hate when WHMes decide that skilling up divine magic is a much better use of their MP when you have a PL -.-

Yup...that is why I try to make them do their jobs themselves, and the only reason I am there is incase something really bad happens. Unfortunately, however, most PLs take complete control of cureing and hate, really giving the WHM no other option other than dia/banishing because there is no one for them to cure. I always hated having a PL for that reason when I was a low lvl WHM.

But it is what its about. Learning how to use your MP in an efficient way is part of being a mage, and if you get PL'd, you'll learn it later or not at all. Or not as efficient. I've met a LOT of mages past 50 who don't know how to conserve their MP. I've met mages who ask the puller not to pull because their MP isn't full.

I meant that's not what my post was gonna be about. Sorry, it was late and I wasnt clear XD.

Mages need to learn early how much MP it takes for them to keep a party alive per fight and if you find you haven't had to throw a cure in a while during a fight, one use Regen to manage cures (once you learn the spell) and two-- REST! REST to get back some MP. Rest as much as possible but play careful attention to the HP of the party and watch the chat log. So many lives are saved by watching the chat logs.

I think the worst part of it is when you are in the dunes as a high level, say for a quest or something (freaking leeches wouldnt gimme my damn ruby) as a mage job and people EXPECT you to PL and then become assholes when you refuse. Example:

PTLeader: Hey can you PL us please?
Me: Sorry, not right now. Maybe in a little bit.
PTLeader: Come on man, your a high level Red mage.
Me: Seriously, im busy right now.
PTLeader: What could you possibly be doing here at your level?
Me: Killing leeches for a quest.

-Rufus kills the leech-

PTLeader: Great, now can you help us?
Me: No, im not done.
PTLeader: But you just killed a leech.
Me: Please, just shut up now.
PTLeader: High level assholes.

/em uncontrollably twitches.

Then when they die you can say:

PTLeader: [Raise] [Can I have it?]
Me: I'm sorry i'm too busy being a high level asshole to raise you right now. [See you again!]

MUAHAHAHA

Wow the dunes have gotten that bad with PLs? I remember when they first started up. Never would of thought they would become to the point where it is required. I've had many many many of pt during my time playing this game without them. Course this was back in the day when the game was fairly new. Guess I picked a good time to retire, since things are STILL going down hill after about a year now. I'm so dissappointed with the way things are going.
