holy shit... this is the worst butchering of Anime for as long as i can remember... For those of u who have watched Naruto's fan subbing know that episode 151 is around the corner. However, they are just now starting to air Naruto on Cartoon Network

This is by far the worst voice acting i have *ever* seen, and the voice of naruto...just....omg... just watch it and u'll see... i mean i heard it was bad but...as soon as i heard it i was just....yea wow - - im really dissappointed.

Quit over reacting. It's flippin' difficult for grown men to voice child characters, much easier for women to do it. The voice acting seems decent to me.

And yeah.. HAH. Nothing will ever be as bad as what happened to One Peice.

Is it a huge nerf, not really, I've seen worse, but its bad. I can't wait till the Zazuba arc, will that be a joy to watch! And when they get up to Gaara, we'll see who does that voice.....

what about Rock Lee... i mean. Ugh, im just afraid so many people will blow it off. its a really good series, but from the scene i watched it just makes it look really cheesy. I guess this is the bad thing about getting the fan-subbed anime way in advance, you get your hopes up too much :(

I'm glad so far it seems they're keeping the characters original names, I wonder if everyone is gonna keep it though, I would imagine characters like Shikamaru would have it shorted to just Shika or something like DBZ did. Anyway, we all know Naruto was too big to pass up, think of it like this, it may open peoples eyes and get more people into watching the Japanese episodes, perhaps it'll attract some more people to get into anime in general, so it could have a positive spin....

Or it could be like One Piece...... :|

Nothing could be like one peice. They should've just striped the title and renamed it something completely unrelated.

I'm thankful Steven Blum doesn't touch it in any way, shape, or form. The guy's the freaking Cam Clarke of the dubbed Anime World. Getting old hearing his voice.

As someone who's taking courses to start a career in voice acting and getting voice coaching, I can safely say that anime fans are basically impossible to please. VAs are going to voice the characters the way they feel it should be voiced and not to satisfy the 50% of the crowd that's going to hate the English dub regardless of who the VA is and how it's voiced.

This is also why I both stay far away from fansub anime and try to watch what little anime I do dubbed. I think I enjoy the series I watch a lot more because I don't have any preconcieved notions about the VA work. It's also, should I ever actually 'make it' as a VA, will be very worried about doing dub work for anything resembling a popular anime.

Actually, he was supposed to be Zabuza. Adult swim should just be called the steve blum variety hour with as much stuff as he does. He is still an excellent VA though.

Nevermind, he plays Sasuke.

GG Steven Blum.

Seriously, him and Cam Clarke need to get out of the business.

They hardly even change the tone of their voice when they play different characters, it's so easy to pick them out, and they're in everything.

And Cubs... failed at offsite linking! :P
But it's good to know you know exactly who he is.

I have never been able to tell the difference between good and bad voice acting. This reminds me of how girls can have 10 different names for the same color of red, but they are all the same to me. Real problem is probably not that the VA is signifigantly better or worse, just that it is different than the first one you heard. We build up an image (includes audio) of how something should be, when it changes we usually dislike the change. Same thing happens commonly when a friend gets/losses glasses or has an extreme haircut. Your image has to change and most people don't like that.

I'm with Rones, as I have had a bit of experience with it; Both being unable to tell what a "bad" voice actor sounds like compared to a "good" one. As long as the voice fits the character, any voice acting is good to me.

As far as hypothesis being that it is the change of our original view we don't like, not the voiceacting. I concur. There have been times when I watched shows in English, then in Japanese (dubbed), and didn't like the Japanese version. There have also been times I've watched them Japanese first then English, and didn't like the english version.

I never expect awesome voice acting on dubs so I am never disappointed. I use to get riled up over the sub/dub wars but I just don't care anymore. I still prefer the original language with subtitles but if there is only a dub I can live with it.

Then again I am not sure how to tell if the Japanese voice acting "is good" it is just what I have come to expect. Rule of thumb is whenever I watch any foreign language film/tv show/ whatever I prefer to watch it in it's original language.

Actually, the main difference between good and bad voice actors that I've seen is how well the inflection in their voice matched the situation of the video. If it's a really tense scene, but they sound bored or happy or something, then it just throws you off. There's also the changes in the dialogue, and the "Americanization" of certain things that can hurt your opinion of the VA even though that's not their fault.

Rones, you're dead on about the changes thing though. Although I would say that the magnitude of the change plays a big role in how much we like/dislike the change. There's been some dubs that I've actually liked more than the subs, and I saw the subs first. The changes in the voices were mostly minor, or if they were a big change, it was a voice I hated hearing in the Japanese version anyways.

Oh Skaw, I was right, Steve Blum is doing Zabuza. Sasuke is being voiced by someone named Yuri Lowenthal. Plus, you can't always tell that he's the VA for some roles. My friend likes to check out credits for people, and he's told me a number of series that I had no idea Steve Blum was a part of, so it's not always obvious who's doing the voice.

People complain way too much about dubbing/edits/whatever for anime. A lot of people out there are not net savvy or have other reasons why they can't download 400 gigs of anime to watch the originals or fansubs. For countless people, this will be their first chance to see this series. So what if it's a little "Americanized"? I guarantee you these people aren't going to care. They just want to see it, and that's what they are getting.

I love to see all of the anime that's getting released here, finally giving everyone equal opportunity to see the series they could only read about before. I hope the trend continues. So what if a series getting released here makes your precious fansubs harder to find? It's worth it for those out there without access to fansubs. Quit your bitching and be glad that you have the opportunity to support the flood of anime into the states by watching it on tv and buying the DVDs.

You know what, I agree! Besides, the voice isn't that bad. It could always be worse! Besides, I do remember watching the original episodes of Dragonball Z when Ocean Studio did the horrible dubbing on it, but you know what, I got to see Dragonball Z and that's all that matters.

Besides, I don't see why people are so pissed about dubbing anymore. Call yourselves real Otaku? Have you seen the dubbed version of Scrapped Princess? How about any of the new Gundam SEED? I'll say that Cardcaptor Sakura Movie 2 is the best dub I've seen to date, and if you don't believe me then go rent it somewhere. Quit complaining about the 'One Piece' quality dubs and go watch something other than 4Kids or Kids WB. (Or hey, do something new and actually buy the anime and watch the sub if your desperate. The reason why most companies can't afford good voice acting is because people are too busy downloading the anime instead of buying it! Get my drift?)

(And yes, to those who care, I apologize for the ranting.)

OK, after watching that trailer i feel alot better about it. I guess just after the trailer i watched, the tones in their voices just didnt seem to match the situation, which was what i was getting at. its just a matter of getting used to the english voices, especially hearing the names of characters. In the japanese version, they speak the names really fast. Hearing the names over pronounced in english just sounds so different than in the jap. version. But hey, i have a reason to watch it again XP. i guess just after watching that first scene i was a little quick to judge, and we'll have a beter look at it 2morrow at its preview.

...although i really wonder how Rock Lee is gunna sound... lol.
