Hello everyone. I realize that I haven't been here in around two months, and some of you may have forgotten about me, but I am in dire straits, my mind is spinning, and I have never been more depressed in my life.

The only way I can make you understand is from the very beginning (names will be changed to keep this from being blatently obvious to anyone from SCU who happens to read this). I arrived at SCU (Santa Clara University) two months ago, which prompted my respite (retirement?) from FFXI. I quickly made close friends here on the third floor of Walsh Residence Hall. Being around these people twenty-four-seven sure brings the relationships along at a torrent pace. I guess I'll outline my closest friends here (remember, names are changed so they may sound strange):

The Guys:

Gow, the globally-ranked badminton player: Gow is a really cool guy and fun to be around; however, he flirts with all the girls which is alright until he gets a girlfriend. He and Bella may have something going on so he had better stop soon.

Ron, one of four Filipino exchange students whom I know: Ron is also a really great guy; I'm pretty sure he's gay but nevertheless he is really cool to hang out with and he's great to have deep conversations with.

Ralph, another Filipino exchange student: Ralph lived in L.A. for much of his childhood, so he is the most Americanized of the exchange students (I actually didn't know he was an exchange student until the second week). Ralph is also a really great guy, and I considered myself very close friends with him up until yesterday--a part of me still likes him, but a part of me hates him more than I've hated anyone perhaps in my entire life. More on this later.

Earl, another exchange student: Earl is very smart but a tad socially awkward. Nonetheless, he is well-liked and his social quirks liven up the scene most times. I must say he is a great guy as well. He is roommates with Ron and Ralph (the only "triple" on the floor).

Matt, my roommate: Matt was incredibly reclusive for the first two weeks of school, practically living in his bed with his laptop all day long. We as a community eventually broke him out of it, and now he is one of the coolest guys around. He is a man of few words but every one of them is golden. He is very intelligent, has a quick wit, and is overall a joy to be around.

Carl, probably the guy who is the most comfortable with his sexuality that I've ever met: Carl seems very extroverted, but in reality he is shy by nature. He is the least gay guy you would ever meet, but he occassionally kisses guys on the cheeks just to get a reaction--I'm pretty comfortable with my sexuality as well so he didn't creep me out too much, but I must admit he got me. He is currently attempting to woo Alice, but this is a secret so only a handful of us are aware. He is Gow's roommate.

Dave, the closet nerd: On the surface, Dave is a skater, a pot-smoker, and he had to go to military school because of his behavior. Underneath, he is a computer nerd, plays Magic the Gathering, and is a level 60 something-or-other in WoW. He is currently kinda-sorta with Alice.

Dong, the other computer nerd: Not that I'm not one myself, but Dong takes it to another level. I specialize in software--not only are his software skills superior to mine, but he can find hardware problems usually within minutes as well. He also plays Magic and WoW along with Dave, and they are roomates so I guess that works out pretty well. The one thing about Dong is that he has no apparent sex drive. We can only speculate that he must be gay (he does hang out with Matt a lot), but that's really not a big deal anyway.

The Girls:

Alice, the sexy latina: I was instantly attracted to Alice upon arriving at SCU, and I tried to win her over but I forgot that I'm ugly. She simply had no attraction toward me. She is very cool, however, and I feel that I can talk to her about deep issues. I actually started liking her, but I nipped it in the bud because I knew it would only cause heartache down the road--I was moderately depressed for a day or two after I did that but I felt fine afterwards. She is a close friend of mine now.

Bella, the female Filipino exchange student: Bella is very sweet--we have equated making fun of her to making fun of a puppy: you just can't bring yourself to do it. She is very prudish and innocent but we are breaking her shell a bit (we actually got her to say "fuck" once or twice). The only boyfriend she has ever had was with her for a year before she called him her boyfriend, and another year before they even kissed. Kudos to that guy for patience, eh?

Lee, the smart, funny, witty, amazing girl who is caring and kind and prompted this visit to you all: It all started as a very close, very deep friendship. She was giving me tips trying to help me win over Alice, and when I failed she consoled me. We took long walks together and discussed life in general--she told me how her mother had passed away from cancer just months before, and I consoled her. We talked about relationships, and how she had only had one prior boyfriend--she was surprised to learn I had never had a girlfriend. You see, I was always told that I was "too nice", or "boyfriend material, just not for me", or "it would ruin our friendship", or any other tidbit of utter garbage that you can think of. After all of these heart-to-hearts, I was beginning to develop feelings for Lee. The way she smiled all cute with her tongue sticking out ever-so-slightly, the way she would curl up and blush when she got embarassed, the way she laughed. . . . It seems I'm typing too much here; let me move on to the bulk of this.

As you know, it all started with me being attracted to and then even liking Alice. I had liked several girls before, and this was no different. When things didn't pan out, I was sad, maybe even a little depressed, but I dusted myself off and got over it like I always have. Then I started hanging out with Lee more and more, and not only is she by far the best friend I have made here, I like her more with every passing minute. I can't call it love because I know it can't be, but it makes me wonder if I ever really liked any of those girls at all, because this is a whole other level, a whole other degree. This is the strongest attachment I've ever felt to a girl in this manner, by a long shot.

Anyway, here is the major problem: during one of our heart-to-hearts, after I had just begun to like her, she mentioned that she had just recently had a messy breakup with her ex, and she wasn't ready for a relationship. Wanting to respect her space, I hid my feelings for her, but like a fool I let them grow, thinking that someday she may be ready and I could ask her out. I had planned that if I foresaw someone coming on to her, I would let her know that I had always liked her, and that I wasn't trying to make her uncomfortable, but I just didn't want to lose any chance of being able to go out with her. But fucking Ralph. . . . I'm sorry, let me do this as objectively as I can.

I was sitting in Lee and Bella's room, listening to music and doing my homework with Lee (I hung around her as much as I could without making it too obvious), when Bella began talking to Lee about an issue I was unaware of, and they were kind of talking in code ("You know that thing? Yeah, what do you think about that?"). I asked Lee if she minded talking to me about it, since we shared everything, and this is what she said: "Me and Ralph might have a thing".

My heart stopped. My brain shut off. I felt like throwing up. Goosebumps covered my entire body. I began to shiver, but I subdued it enough so that she couldn't readily notice. Lee noticed my concentration was way off of the math at this point, and she asked me if anything was wrong. I shrugged my shoulders, meaning yes obviously. She offered to take a break and go on a walk with her, and I readily accepted.

I learned that Ralph and Lee were hanging out in Ralph's room listening to music, when out of the blue Ralph told Lee that he had feelings for her. He already knew that she wasn't ready for a relationship, yet he had the nerve to do this to her anyway. She tells him again that she isn't ready for a relationship, but then the fucking girls on the floor. . . . *sigh*

But then the girls on the floor almost talk her into giving him a chance. Now at this point she is utterly confused and doesn't know what to do. During our walk, I work up the nerve to tell her that I like her, although I tone down the degree to which I like her so that she won't be weirded out or anything--however, I do let her know that I like her quite a bit, and it's definitely the serious kind. She was very understanding and quite frankly shocked that two guys could like her. You see, she has low self-esteem (why, I don't know) and assumed that I still liked Alice just because of what she looked like. She told me she didn't know what she was going to say to Ralph, and that she is so sorry that I was so crushed. Now, at this point, Ralph constantly has his arm around her shoulder, and she isn't backing away from him. Is she just too kind to brush him off or is she really interested?

Needless to say, I didn't sleep one second last night, and I cried for the first time in years.

Today, I felt like a zombie, going through the motions. I threw up as soon as I woke up, barely reaching the sink. I heard the professors talking but it was all indiscernable to me. During my breaks in between classes when I would normally hang out with friends, I lied in my bed, crying occassionally. Just a few hours ago, I pulled myself together enough to ask Lee these questions:

"Do you like Ralph?"

"I don't know."

"Do you like me?"

"I don't know."

If she had said that she liked him, I would have respected her choice and allowed them to have a relationship for her sake, because I like her too damn much, all the while sinking into a deep depression the likes of which I have never experienced.

If she had said that she didn't like me, I would have done the same, but here she remains on the fence.

"Is the door still open for me? Do I still have a chance?"

"Yes."

"Are you ready for a relationship?"

"I don't know."

So we just hugged for about five minutes and I came up here and lied in bed for about an hour, now more confused than ever, and just as depressed. I felt a burning desire to type all my feelings out, and it occurred to me that I had you all, a community of hundreds of people whom I respect, whom have more experience than I in matters such as these. So please, if you have anything to say at all, feel free to do so. My life is in shambles right now and I could really use some support. Thank you all so much in advance.

Two facts:
#1 Statistically there are more females than males in this world.
#2 College is cool, but merely the beginning of the rest of your life, don't sweat what happens there.

Between those two you should have your answer.

*Totally, totally hugs Vet with tears in her eyes*

You're sooo growin' up lil grasshopper. This is just a stepping stone to the rest of your life^^. I'm soooo sorry you're hurting hun, but you will be okay. Just give the girl time to think and try to be patient. She's just lost her Mamma after all.

Lastly, I have said this forever and it is probably my most favorite quote.

If you truly love someone, you love them enough to set them free. If at a later time they come back to you, then it was really meant to be.

What's the time limit on that? ; ;

Til one of you leave this earth for that better place "up there" ;).

Wow, i'm teary eyed. I don't know if this will help, but I can tell you everything happens for a reason. If you truly love her, then things will work out. It may take some time, but for now keep your head up. Go on with life, don't be so depressed :( If you two are meant to be together then you will be, in time.

If you wanna get coffee/beer sometime Vet, Phraust and I are like 20 minutes away. My mom actually used to run the bookstore at your school. Struck an odd chord that I might actually know people you are talking about personally just by fluke.

I went and told her last night that if she wants to date Ralph, to please go ahead and do so. I told her that I only wanted her to be happy, and that I was willing to wait a month, a year, two or three years to be able to go out with her if that's what it takes. I was able to "un-like" other girls, but I really don't think it's even possible with her at this point.

On a side note, thank you all so much for backing me up here. Old friends and acquaintances, and even new faces: thank you all so much.

I also had a long talk with Alice last night and she made me feel so much better. She told me that practically everyone on the floor thinks me and Lee would make a great couple and want to see it happen, and that even if she goes out with Ralph, I will still have a chance down the road--she believes in fate and that it will all eventually work out, but I'm a more logic-based person. Nothing is set in stone, especially the future, but I will try to keep on the path to her heart the best I can.

You guys are so great--I can't thank you enough for this. Kat, Lihnx, and Bigboy especially: you guys really lifted my spirits.

Bigboy, I'm totally up for that. I looked back at some ancient screenshots and me and Phraust actually partied back in Valkurm before either of us had subjobs. Crazy stuff eh? Maybe he can lend me a PCC, lol.

Anyway, my AIM is you94070 and my YIM is [email protected]. My preferred e-mail is [email protected] so drop me a line however you want and maybe we can set something up.

With love and thanks,

Faith is good to have in life, and everything does happen for a reason.... But sometimes you need to learn to let things go. You might be a great guy, from what I knew of you in game, you were a great person, but she might not need what you have to offer right now, and its ok.

Go have fun, its what college is, your last step of fun before the real world. ;)

Good luck bud. And noooooo, no one has been able to figure out girls, not even other girls!

I kinda understand what Lee is going through... well I had the same experience long ago. Two guys liked me (2 years ago) >_< I don't like to hurt people's feelings although the truth hurts sometimes. They were my friends, and I wanted to be nice with them, to both of them, so they didn't feel like one of them was my best friend, I treated both of them equally. Ok this will be a lil long... heh

I'll call one of them Rick and the other one Andy.

Rick was my friend, but I started to like him >_< and I tried to hide my feelings but he noticed and he said he wanted us to be just friends. I respected his decision.

I always talked to Andy about Rick, so he comforted me everytime. Suddenly I started to like him X_X I was confused, he helped me, comforted me and then... I started having feelings for him.

I talked to Andy about this and surprisingly... he started to have feelings for me too. We were going to try something out, we werent a couple yet, but everyone noticed that we liked each other. Then...
Rick started acting strange... he was jealous! =( Later he talked to me, and told me that he really liked me, but he was scared of trying something out... he didn't want to risk our relationship but he couldn't stand seeing me more friendly with Andy and all :/
/sigh he asked me if I wanted to be his girlfriend... and I didnt know what to say.
One day after, Andy asked me the same. It was like both of them were having a challenge or something ~_~ well anyways they didn't like each other... Rick hated Andy for some reason and Andy hated Rick as well. :/ Both tried to win my heart in many positive ways, and I was even more confused >_< my feelings for Rick didn't die but I had feelings for Andy so I was very very confused. I didn't know what to do =(

I had to choose one. But I couldn't, so I told them that we were better as friends. They didn't like it. My friends pressured me to take one of them. The confused me more >_< my error was... doing what my friends suggested me to do. -.- and I took Andy, because Rick first rejected me and I thought it was fair to give Andy a chance. Do you know how much time we lasted? 2 weeks. /sigh He was so different... I didn't like his attitude. He would show his feelings only some times, not everytime. :/ We broke up. Rick came to me and asked me to be his gf. I said I didn't want to have a relationship. He insisted and all... I said yes. Do you know how much we lasted? 8 months. yeah. I have to go now, I have classes but I will continue posting on this topic. ^^;

Me and a friend call this the "Dick-in-the-jar" plan. Break in case of emergency. Women feed off attention, they crave it. You think its coincidence that "cool Ralph" that always flirts has his arm around the girl? Its not. Nice guys always finish last and its true. Through years of torturing myself over girl after girl its the same shit over and over. The asshole always gets the chick. Instead of the "Lets spend time together and I'll be sooo nice to you and treat you well" guy, chicks are always desiring more from the guys that are teasingly critical and have better things to do.

Hell, when I lost my virginity it was to a girl I had been after for a year. I watched her go through boyfriends while we were just friends and shit. At least I got a pity-f*** before she moved.

I like what Sculli says. Don't fret over anything. You have tons of time. I know its easy to say, but it is really the best thing. All the girls I've ever tried so hard for, I look back at myself and I realize how pathetic I was and how little they were worth my time. Find another girl and start hanging out with her... I'll bet you Lee gets jealous as hell. You know why? They are scared one of their reliable options are gone.

This girl Theresa, I was trying to get with her for a long time. I'd always push the idea of us getting together and it was always the same BS. "I don't know... I don't think the timing is right... " I end up going to this New Year's party with a girl I met out one night. Suddenly Theresa is all up on me and she even asks me if she thinks Candace, the girl with me, would be up for a threesome. Riiiiight. (I tried but Candy said no ><;) Me and Candy didn't last long and I was kinda psyched after we split. I thought maybe Theresa's true feelings for me were starting to surface. Oh how quickly things went back to, "I don't know" She would even bait me with shit like "You're the only guy I'd consider being with." You know what? It caused more headaches than butterflies so after enough time I just stopped even trying.

Before I get hate mail, listen. I know every girl is not like this and I am generalizing. There really are some women out there that just want a nice guy. Someone that will treat them like gold. Doesn't have to be the hottest guy or anything, just dedicated and caring. When you're young... and when you're in college.. I think a lot of people are starting to find their freedom in the real world. There's probably not many keepers you'll come across.

My advice is if you want a real relationship, keep being yourself. Don't change. Any chick that passes you, its her loss. They'll end up with one of those teasing, cocky guys and their relationship will end when he's caught with another chick. Maybe Ralphie-boy will bag more chicks before you really find something, but eventually the player always gets played. Be patient and never burn any bridges. I swear, Vet, the best things come right to you when you're not even looking for them. And plus its college man... try to just have fun while you're there!

hehe

I <3 the women on QCDN. Any info on a possible calendar???

if shes not ready for a relationship, and she is getting more pressure from one side than the other, chances are shes going to turn to where she gets the least pressure from.

if shes not sure, then let her go. i dont buy that bullshit that if its meant to be they'll come back, but i do know (at least how i feel) that if shes really not ready for a relationship from either one of you due to her recent break up, and shes is getting pressure from one side, shes going to feel trapped and feel obligated to move away from that. Dont push her too hard, and let her heart make up her mind for her.

Of course, she might not always make the right decision, which in this case would to be with you. If thats what she does though, then just try to forget it. You're pretty young dude, and I don't want to sound cliche when I say there are a lot of other girls out there, but chances are at your age you'd just break up in a few months anyway.

Vet.....ok fuck the game name.Greg i dont know what to say. Ive known you for 14 years now. And ive never seen you in this state of mind before. Yeah girls can be confusing bitches sometimes, and other times they are the only thing you want to attain. Oddly enough i had a similar experience to yours, except the fact that the girl i was going for had no clue I liked her. I guess it shows how long we've known each other, our personalities have become quite similar and led us in similar directions.

You know after reading this again and my roommate playing a depressing song on his guitar, i realize now that you can overcome this. This challenge is tougher than any god or HNM you've done. You will pull through. She will fall for you. It seems it is destined.

Honestly, I just don't understand the urge to enter a relationship.
You got college to worry about, studying, getting good grades, doing stuff that makes you stand out of the crowd so that you can be the one that moves on to greater things.

Sure Lee may be nice, I am not arguing this. But imho there is just no sense to beat yourself up over it. Who gives a fuck what others think about you two, it doesn't matter that the rest of the floor thinks you would make a great couple. Those who take such interest in the lives of others have imho not outgrown their highschool years yet.

College will quite possibly the best time of your life, even if you ask happy and successful (and really old) adults, most will say that all things considered, college was it. That doesn't mean they thought less of their wedding day or the birth of their children or whatever, it just means that college was totally awesome, even though it's quite possibly also the hardest time in your life if you want to do well.

Anyway, my point is, there will be another after Lee, and possibly another after that, and perhaps a few dozen more after that. You don't have to bind yourself right now, and even though you may think that you really want to, chances are you really don't.

Just live your life, have fun, and if Lee is going to be part of it, that's great, and if not, then you will still be able to enjoy life, I guarantee it.

It's seems like to cool thing to do to be depressed these days. Some melancholy adds character - NOT! Think about it, being depressed over a potential partner may be cute, but would you want to live with a person like that? The upbeat kind of people live happier lives by definition. So build a bridge and get over it.

I've been in college 1.5 years and its sucked so far =/

I had more fun in high school.

Well, it appears that she is going to go out with him now. On one hand, I feel happy that she is happy. On the other hand, I am even more depressed than I was before--every time I see his arm around her, or just seeing them sitting next to each other, it feels like someone is plunging a dagger into my chest, turning it over and over. I am back where I was a few days ago--I haven't eaten today and I threw up twice. I just wish I could flip it off like a switch and not like her anymore but it's not that simple.

I feel like it may be good for me to avoid her for awhile, but on the other hand she is the only person I can be completely honest with, and my talks with her lift my spirits. I guess I'll try to continue to just be her friend and be there to comfort her, and maybe someday I'll have another chance. For now, I'll try to go through the motions and slowly crawl out of this deep, deep hole I have slid back into. Thank you all so much for giving me an alternate outlet to express my dilemma, and I'll see you all again someday.

Just keep living your life one day at a time. Everyone loses someone, or feels like they lose someone at one point in their life, its natural.

Its how you deal with it, and how you walk away from it that defines who you are. I personaly, am a coward, or so I'm told, when it comes to this kinda stuff. I run away and never look back. I dont see the point in prolonging something that only causes me more pain and angst. I feel what I feel for a reason, as I see it, and I just run away from all those feelings, and eventualy they go away.

My approach is mine, and it makes the pain go away, but it makes me misserable for a long time. It probably isnt the best, but I've learned to deal with it.

I wish you luck my friend, in whatever you chose. Just try not to say anything bad to her/him, and try not to destroy their relationship.

PS. Panda, if she isnt ready for a relaionship, how come she is in one?
