Grrrrrr....
Okay, this is one of the those anime's I just haven't seen before well untill recently. I had always wondered what the hype about it was. Since I had heard of it, and had seen it on anime magazine covers and such. I just had never actually checked it out.
Well in Febuary(sp?) I went to a lan party with my roomate. A lot of the guys at the lan party had all kinds of media they were sharing. I got the second season of the Justice League from one guy, and the whole X-Men animated series... yes.. all of the episodes. (was huge, ended up deleting so my computer didnt brainfart.
) Well one guy had the whole Neon Genesis Evangelion series (or so I thought) well I copied it all since I hadn't seen it yet. I watched about the first 3 or 4 episodes before the lan party was finished. Went back home and hadnt really watched it again untill recently.
I watched through the whole thing that I had. At first it seemed pretty cool, infact it appeared to be a pretty awesome anime ...that is untill the last 2 episodes and to top it off, after I had watched the last episode that was in the folder.. i realized there was still one more final episode, #25 that was not in the folder. Apparently the guy I got it from had all of them except the last episode.. and that sucked.. i wanted to watch it. So I downloaded Kazaa and it took freaking forever, but within a few days I had downloaded the last episode.. it was in Japanese, but I wasn't gonna download another one, not after waiting 2 1/2 days of downloading. So i watched it. Everything made sense.. well not really, it made sense as much as the previous episode did (which wasn't much) and then it ended. Worst anime ending Evar! It's like someone fed the writers and artists crack while they were doing the last 2 episodes. It was completely abstract and opposite from everything that was the previous 23 episodes.
In short, the ending completely sucked ass. So, after watching that and being dissapointed, I watched the "End of Evangelion" which is basically 2 long episodes that replace the last 2 episodes in the series, as an alternate ending. Watched it, it seemed to be a bit better, untill it got to the end.. and then it got all f'd up and screwy like the other two last episodes were. It's final ending was pretty damn weak too, not to mention made no sense.
I was severly dissapointed in Neon Genesis Evangelion. It appeared to have a decent story, the characters where pretty good but then at the end .. it just screwed everything up. Everything before the final two episodes was good.. and then blam. Teh Suxorz.
I've noticed in a lot of anime this seems to be a trend. (not all anime, I have watched several that where good from start to finish) It just seems like an anime will start out interestingly, develope a good story, and then when it approaches the end, things just get screwy, and the story is all thrown off, or it just has a sucky ending, or no definative ending. Another good example of this is Berserk. Awesome anime even through to the last episode.. but it's ending leaves you wanting more because it.. well, doesn't finish the story. Now I know with Berserk they do continue it in Manga form, but.. pfft, I don't like manga's. I want my damn anime to have a good ending, especially(sp?) if it's a good anime.
