Xbox360 Netflix takes a hit already

/sigh I know there's red tape, I understand there are legalities to the international trade of goods and services for crying out loud.

Ok let me make this clear as day to all.

Microsoft released multiple advertisements for their upcoming release and new services available to customers.

Microsoft did not make mention of any services that would be unavailable to specific customers due to locations/licensing, any reason really at all, any mention. (would have been nice "eh")

By doing the above implies that these services would be available, it's deceiving. Deceit is bad business. They could have made the pro-active decision to include mention of limitations, for seeing customer complaints, it's only a logical step. Who am I to think corps like to make pro-active decisions.. that's silly of me ;p

I don't expect the service NOW, I do expect the common courtesy as a customer to not have my time wasted, and it has been wasted.

This is just among many disappointments I've experienced with Microsoft over the last 4 years of using the 360.

I'm principal driven, a tad bit of an idealist, and there's not a damn thing wrong with that.

Yes, if a service is region specific it should be noted, especially as customers from a region not part of the region might buy gold specifically to get that service, and then find they just paid $50 for nothing. This should be common sense, not a debate. If people didn't feel obligated to defend Microsoft out of console-war loyalty this wouldn't even be a debate, but there are people who would defend Microsoft if they found out the processor chip was made up of ground-up babies.

Thanks for your understanding. You're damn right it should be common sense, and common practise.

EDIT: Just to mention, when I had Xbox on the phone during my inquiry they did ask me whether I purchased a Gold Memebership specifically for the new services. So they either do forsee a problem they could have avoided or they are getting complaints as I expect.

I can see this getting deleted lol

I understand you all upset Cheebs and you have every reason to be. If i were in your situation i would be annoyed also. I guess i feel for you because you are a friend.

Its wrong and this will sound horrible... But, I dont care what treatment other countries get from MS or any company for that matter.. My xbox works, my netflix works my live service is great. Call me a bitter American in a recession.

Fire you are right there are people who will defend a specific company till the end... You find it mindless.

I ask you why do people even care about these companies sales, position in their field or even morals? You/we have nothing to do with them and get no bonus at the end of the year from our prefered console.

You dont like this company or the way they handle things... Dont buy their products or stop using their product.

Cheebs is a funny example here.. She probably is enraged by MS right now but i would bet my savings she wont be dropping 360 any time soon. You should see her excitment online.

Absolutely! I love my games .. you know it. I love playing with everyone, it's a blast.

I just don't get where companies integrities are. It all stems from being an idealist in the corporate world myself. Cheaters are the one's to reach the top.

Anyway, I won't drop MS, nor Sony, these are the choices I have if I want to be an on-line gamer.

I sure as shit though will get pissy with them and send disgruntled emails to all involved when I feel I've been screwed yet again :(:rtfm:

Man i have the perfect quote from you one night on Live... I refuse to post it up here because it was just... Man it was bad Cheebs. The one that made Jeremey have to puke??? Send that one to MS.

LMAO.. hey hey, in my defense.. I have been playing with you guys too long, AND my guys.. and guys in general, those who can dish it out but can't take it back... like so many others I know lol.

I'm SURE MS would appreciate that! If I took pics of everthing offensive and penalty worth I've received over MS and sent it to them, they rightfully should be shocked! I know I've said some things online (usually in my own defense) that is offensive but some peoples children.. you're no gem yourself eh lol.

I can understand being available in North American only, but to think I'm paying the same fees, I have a Gold Membership and do not have the same services because I'm in Canada bugs me.

Are you saying they shouldn't have released this in America just because they weren't able to concurrently release it to other countries?

I'd be pretty pissed if I was paying the same amount for a lesser product. It's not hard to understand what Cheeb was saying...

If you aren't going to give the same product, you shouldn't be charging the same price.

Okay I'll tell you what. If you can show me a link where Microsoft stated that the new xbox experience for Canada would include netflix, I'll give you some sympathy. For the record, the link on the official Microsoft Canada site doesn't mention it in the slightest:

http://www.xbox.com/en-CA/live/nxe/

Maybe instead of whining you should research more? Also don't give me that "People in Canada bought gold exclusively for this" bs. Anyone who buys a product without researching what it entails deserves to lose their money. Not to mention that Netflix by default is not available in Canada so I don't know why you thought this would be...

Edit:

http://www.netflix.com/TermsOfUse

Geographic Limitation: You may not view a movie through the instant watching functionaltiy anywhere other than within the 50 United States and the District of Columbia. Due to licensing restrictions, you may not instantly watch movies outside of this area, including the U.S. territories, and Netflix may use technologies to verify your compliance.

Go troll somewhere else, it is allowed to be a bit disgruntled that you're paying more for the same product.

It is also allowed to have an opinion. Just because it isn't yours doesn't mean it's wrong.

This thread if you can't tell is how Netflix is taking hits. Good and bad opinions will be found here, don't bother reading it if you can't handle the abundance of "whining" taking place.

FYI, I felt quite confident in my understanding of what was being released to ALL xbox 360 customers from MS's ample advertisements.

If you can tell me where I stated "People in Canada bought gold exclusively for this" I'll admit my error, but you can't.

I'm aware it's on the internet .. it's NOT in their newletters sent to my email nor the one's flashing to get my attention on my dashboard that bring me to trailers of "what it entails", there were multiple releases and advertisements on the dashboard.

Rappa, I do not own a PC @ home, only access I have is at work, and luckily the sites are not blocked which I can't say for a large majority of other company pcs. So how else would I have known?

I'm not playing coy, and "don't give me that" anyone who buys a product without researching it deserves to lose their money. (ty Mire) EDIT: I feel that's false advertisement and should be illegal.

I'm growing old of this argument. How I feel about this is just and you can't argue my feelings.

I dont know why I even posted because it's not like he can even see what I'm saying, but you are fully entitled to your feelings obviously. You shouldn't have to research everything to buy to death, especially since they made it seem a certain way (they cleaverly omitted information so technically they can claim they did nothing wrong). Some people don't have the luxury of having a computer attached to them 24/7.

It's not false advertisement though, Morcheeba. The service of Netflix has been US only since its inception. There was nothing officially stated by anyone to lead people to believe otherwise. But you're right, I don't really want to argue about it either. We can just agree to disagree again. Also for what it's worth, Microsoft has plans to distribute some major motion pictures outside of Netflix for Canadian users. This isn't Microsoft's fault. It's not entirely Netflix's fault either though if you want to place blame somewhere it would be at their feet for keeping their service exclusive to the States.

@Mire: I viewed your post despite your being on my ignore list since I assumed the reply was to me. I'm not "trolling" this topic (though your telling me that I shouldn't be posting in it IS textbook trolling). I'm simply posting factual information. The truth is just a foreign concept for you I suppose. I have no desire to speak with you any further and if you bother replying I won't be clicking that "View Post" link anymore, anyway.

Good. And you continually going on with you holier than thou "I am god of the intarwebs" know-it-all posts is considered trolling. You made your point, she made hers. She has an opinion (OMG!) get over it. And nice try at a low blow to me lol, go back to your cave.

Cheebs again i understand you and you have every right to be angry. The Live adds and emails should not be sent to Canadian or European customers if the service was not for them...

But man Rappa has the strongest point anyone can make. I was not aware of it.. But if Netflix is a US service only, then why would MS need to say it was not coming to Canada or Europe? Canadians and Europeans should have never expected the service..

And with that Cheebs it would never be false advertisement because they never ever mentioned it was going out of the US... They just failed to mention it was exclusive to the US. MS is one hell of a marketing giant and knows exactly what they were doing. But this is all fair buisness.

With all that being said... I see the adds in my email and i see the adds in my Live setup. If you have the same adds in Canada as me then it was a slightly uncool move on MS's part.

It's an omission of fact (like a lie of omission, when you go to a bank then go cheat on your wife and your wife asks you where you were - you say "at the bank" technically you aren't lying). Companies do it all the time. It's actually not false advertising.

But charging the same price is dirty pool. That's like punishing people for living outside America. (No "lolCanada" jokes please). Or giving American's an advantage just for living in America. If they want to call it a "free benefit" fine, but it doesn't mean that people who are not receiving this service but are paying the same have no right to be a bit miffed about it.

TBH I never knew of Netflix before the advertisements. I never knew it was an American company. Ignorance is no excuse but being lead to think you're going to receive something you're not is ignorant.

Like I said I have no pc at home, so the dashboard trailers and newletters were all I had to go on, and that is WHAT IS provided to me from MS. Shame on me for looking into the update using the tools provided.

That is the reason i understand ya Cheebs. The advertisments in Live menus are kinda unfair towards people outside US. If they were region specific it would be just fine.

Mirewen you are not wrong in anything you are saying but i wouldnt feel that way at all personaly. When we get deeper the Wii and PS3 are both japanese consoles and Japan gets alot of games the US never ever will see for these consoles, this goes even deeper for the PS2. So is the price we pay for a Wii, PS3 or PS2 unfair because there are so many japanese games we will never see in the us? Should we pay less for a "US PS2?"

There is finally a US product (tho still faulty lol) that is as valuable as its competition from japan... We should get special perks and whatnot for owning a 360 in the US.

Now i do believe the only hate you should be giving MS for this is the fact they made these advertisments Live wide and not US only adds.

As for the actual Netflix function you can not be mad at MS for this service being exclusive to US... Netlix period is exclusive to the US... Be mad at Netflix...

Osi you make a fantastic point. But what of their error. It's ok for MS to say "Oops, our bad" and that's it I guess.

They need some clean up. For example, I had to send an email re; suspension of my live accounts 2x.

The first time it happened it was 2 days, I called to inquire and ask for the suspension to be lifted as CoD4 is hell for me at times and I'm sure all the "bad rep" was not valid as I'm female and to many that makes me the enemy (you know what I'm saying), they told me it was only 2 days and they had "No Control" what-so-ever it's automated numbering system and I'd just have to wait. That's fine.

Then I got suspended again this time for a week within 2-3 wks of my first suspension. Again I called, was on the phone with them god only knows how long, asked again for it to be lifted, got the same schpeel. I demanded to speak with management. When I finally got a supervisor on the phone and asked if perhaps it was my bio and not my rep (which some friends suggested it may be) they couldn't confirm either way WHY I was getting suspended. Well... you think you've heard my mouth at the worst of times. How does a parent ground their child for fucking up but not make sure the child knows what they've done wrong so as to ensure they learn from their mistakes.

MS, has messy messy policies and procedures in place that just do not make for efficient smooth running customer friendly operation.

This was just another upset.

To reiterate though, you did make a GREAT point re; ps2 Japan etc

I'd be pretty pissed if I was paying the same amount for a lesser product. It's not hard to understand what Cheeb was saying...

The issue here is that she isn't paying the same amount for a lesser product. If she had a netflix subscription as well but couldn't use this feature, then yes, she would. Gold membership doesn't entitle you to utilize the netflix stream. A Netflux membership does.
