As opposed to playing grab-ass during football?

Emo..... >.>

However you slice it, it's another bunch of losers trying desperately to be different... Just like everyone else. The whole concept just bothers the hell out of me.

On the up side, I like oranges. Though I prefer clementines... >.>

i bet emo bitches would do thier hair, show some clevage, and grab some pom poms at the chance to fuck the qb.

thats why all those chick flicks have the same story line. nerds infatuated with the hottest guy/girl, they somehow spend time together, the bf/gf is a jerk, the nerd consoles the hottest guy/girl, they live happily ever after.

3mo kid is that you in the picture? Connor?

Wow..If so, do you know you probably bought the wrong size jeans?

lol funny picture.

Where I live w ehave a few people that dress like Emokid and people who labe themselves goths. What I really love about them is how they pretend to be all different and have their own personality and blah "im so non mainstream, omg Im different" and yet all goths basically dress the same. They try so hard tobe different from everyone else that they end up just being another group of kids, nothing special about them. You really cant be tottaly indepentent from everything if you have to go to a mall to buy your "rebel" clothing.

haha its so funny how stupid you guys sound...

They don't sound stupid at all. They sound like they are poking fun at a subculture which pretty much happens on a day to day basis with a multitude of differnet subcultures in america (gangsta rap and ravers to name two)- their accusations and laughter comes from not really knowing what the "scene" or "music" that this subculture has been based off of has always been about - only what the mainstream people who have adopted this subculture have turned it into. They are poking fun at the bastardization of something that used to have a lot of heart and soul put into it. Its extremely funny, because the scene, the "emo" scene, has turned into a joke, of which many very funny jokes are formed from. The fact that you take it so personally, even when you mention that the scene has pretty much died (see below quote) kind of makes YOU sound stupid.

i bet you guys were the kids with the gameboys thinking "hey, we're tough, look at those kids in girl jeans, john i bet you got a bigger $%^$ then them.. haha we pwn guys"

And you and your friends are the ones in high school who have your little outfits and little cliques and poke fun at people who don't have the same super outfits, taste in "good" "emo" music (good charlotte, taking back sunday) as you (because you're too elitest to educate them to what some better music may be to them) or don't know what "emo" is (again because you're too pretentious to educate, only defend) because you're too fucking cool.
You have just as much little pre-teen animosity towards everyone else who isnt involved in your lifestyle built up as what you're implying gamers might have against "emo" kids.

Not to mention, you people in this "emo" scene are the ones that made people form these opinions of you. These accusations about emo kids are not all false, they are not all unwarranted. This is what you people come across as being to other people, and by retaliating in this manner you have done nothing to educate them about what the scene (should be) about - you have just come across as a stuck up arrogant music snob, whiney, immature, and uneducated. How are they supposed to ever think anything else of "your" people if you express yourself in this way?

What the fuck is emo?

what the fuck IS emo anyway? Emo music is not always rock, it can be accoustic, it can be somewhat electronic, some of it is harder, some of it is soft, its a term that is pretty much taped to any kind of music that the kids in that scene decide to adopt. It has no real guidelines, like house or metal, and it has a million subgenres (screemo, hardcore, post core, oh boy!)

The "emo" scene (which i think should more accurately be described as "indie" if you want to get technical) is what evolved out of the punk rock, pop punk, and ska scenes of the 80's and 90s. The music we used to book at local shows started out to be punkish, than as time went on the music became more and more watered down, easier to listen to, and more mainstream. The music changed to be a blend of college rock, indie rock, accoustic, hardcore, and punk. The term emo got attached to it because instead of having lyrics that complained about the government and having to clean your room, they moved more to songs about personal angst, emotions, and relationships. It just got more and more bastardized from there.

Personally, I've heard a lot of fuckin music from this genre, since it started being classified as such, and while a lot of the older stuff is amazing, more and more of it just starts to sound the same. The music has become really generic and it all sounds like something i've already heard before.

emokid said:
i picked this name on qdcn back when you didnt have to cut yourself to be an emo kid, it was just a music genre..

This made me giggle a little bit.

You picked this name back in August of last year.
I noticed by your myspace profile that you're 16. Happy birthday by the way.

So you were about 14, 15 when you started listening to this music, about 2 years ago.

I don't really like to sound like this, but sugar, I am 25 years old. The "emo" scene was starting to make a name for itself back when I was 14 years old. Have you ever heard of a band called Lifetime? Did you know that The Get Up Kids have been around since I was about 16? Ever hear of a band called At the Drive In? Those bands had all been classified as emo by the time I was 18 years old. Do you really think, are you really THAT arrogant, to think that your scene has just been bastardized into this stereotype of cutting yourself and being drippy with emotions recently? This stereotype, classification of emo kids as what everyone has posted here has been around for MUCH MUCH LONGER.

You might feel a little betrayed or upset that the scene that you kind of got yourself into and wrapped up in is looked upon this way at this time, and maybe you just weren't aware of it when you first got into the music, but sugar, this is nothing new, and if you really had any dignity you wouldn't care what people are saying about your shit because you know what a scene can and should be about, you know the basis behind everything that this scene has turned out to be has NOTHING to do with the stereotypes, and you've come to accept the fact that what the scene used to be about it pretty much dead and gone now, leaving this little girl angst and fashion core behind in its wake. (as it always is with any subculture.)

emokid said:
now we're called scene so plz you DO NOT know more than i do..

You're called scene because you're involved in a fucking scene. Do you go to shows? You listen to local bands? Ever throw a show? Play in a band? Hang out with your friends at the same places listening to the same music? Hang out with people who have the exact same interests and style as you? Thats a fucking scene, babe.

Again, with the "you do not know more than i do".. I fucking know MUCH more about this than you do judging from your responses here so if you want to retaliate against this post to me please do not use those words.

Also, the reason people DONT KNOW as much as you do is because you freak out like this any time an accusation is made instead of trying to educate people as to what you really believe its about.

emokid said:
there is little to no real emo kids left in america atm so your idiots on that topic too..

What is a real emo kid, son? This is an argument that is directly attached to the people who used to say "there are no real punk rockers anymore" but used to run around calling themselves punk with mohawks. If there are NO real emo kids anymore, (again wtf is af cukgin real emo kid) why then are you bastardizing what they used to be to make yourselves feel better or for lack of better ways to evolve out of that scene?

You people see what happens when the pandas dont get fed before noon? Please feed the pandas, dont let them starve.

Nobody here can tell it like Panda just did, If I was a mod I'd close this thread on that note.

I totally agree with everything Pannda said. However I belive what she said can be applied to any genre of music that becomes mainstream enough to be labled as a 'scene'. All scenes do is apply fashion and guidelines onto kids that have no idea where or why their new 'scene' came from.

Scenes destroy music and turn the whole genre into a laughing stock. It's happened to everything that's even been remotely good. Some band comes out and takes what was ment to be a movement of sorts and you end up with fucking dolls for band members.

Most of these new Emo kids havn't even been to a basement show, listened to bands like Three Mile Pilot and are too concerned with their hair that they've become the jocks and preps that these people who began it were trying to lash out against. I stopped going to shows when I went and felt out of place because I didn't have tight pants and a band T-shirt on, just like school where I didn't fit in because I didn't listen to Tupac and wear a miniskirt.

I remember raves that you had to know a friend who knew a friend that had the phone number that you had to phone between 4-6 pm on the day of the rave to get the location. Locations filled with kids ready to dance their asses off to local DJs from 10 pm - 6 am for 5 bucks plus a non-perishable food item. You didn't even look at other people, this wasn't a social gathering, a place to hook up or a place to get drunk, it was a form of escapism back in Jr High. Then one day you walk into a Le Chateau and see "raver" pants and have to pay $40 to get into a door where people are only there to have sex in the corners and get tripped out on E, they don't even know who's spinning.

Most new punk kids havn't even listened to Fugazi, the goths are so conscerned with their hair and fucking pirate eye patches that when a great band like Imperitive Reaction is on stage they won't even dance. People I know won't even listen to Muse or Ours because it's not in their little scene handbook. Guidelines that don't allow you to broaden your horizons and enjoy music for the sake of it being good fuckin music. God forbid someone should listen to Assemblage 23, Del the Funky homosapian, Muse, The Browns, Yoko Kanno, Mozart, Fugazi and David Bowie all at the same time!

Stop defending your tight shitty pants and getting mad at people for making a completely fuckin funny bunch of sad oranges and start thinking about why you're so insecure about what you like that you have to come to this thread and defend a bunch of sad peices of fruit. When you come on here and make fun of people who enjoy video games on a video game related board because they're laughing at sad fruit it's probably time you re-evaluate you're situation - you're putting yourself on the same level as sad oranges for shits sake. If you enjoy your music, enjoy your clothes, enjoy the people you hang out with, just take a joke because who gives two shits what other people think, that's the whole point of it anyway isn't it?
