The details for the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test are described below.

Operating Procedure
Schedule:
Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 19:00 (PDT)

*The Open Beta Test will be online continuously for 24 hours a day.
*Maintenance and any other announcements will be posted accordingly.

*Information on testing dates and times will also be posted on the official FINAL FANTASY XIV Twitter feed.

Log-in Capacity
During the initial stages of the beta test, the number of players allowed to be logged in at any given time will be limited, with capacity to gradually increase as adjustments are performed on server load. Should the maximum capacity already be reached when you attempt to log in, a message will appear indicating that the world is currently congested, and you will be asked to try again in a short while. At this time you will be placed on a waiting list in the order of attempted log-in time. To maintain your position on the waiting list, you must initiate the log-in procedure again within ten minutes of your first attempt.

Feedback Submission
While playing, testers who have been asked to submit opinions on anything at all regarding topics such as game balance issues, settings that you may have found difficult to understand, and features that you felt were inconvenient, unintuitive, or required further explanation are asked to use the feedback hread, and for those testers who have been assigned the task of reporting bugs are asked to use the bug report form.

Happy to hear the beta will be up so early! I hope the download is the same as the Beta 3, cause that thing took forever to dl!

Considering they're adding 2 more starting zones and their surrounding area, it should be just as big - if not larger than - the phase 3 beta.

Yes, and thank god for letting us get out of fucking Limsa Lominsa. I may actually play past 5th level finally.
 
It won't be as laggy either due to the wider spread. The reason it lagged so bad before was because everyone on the server was in the same area.

I just really Hope they fixed some of the major problems with system. Like the UI Lag, The Hardware Mouse, And i really hope they MAke Guild leves reaquirable, if failed due to D/C

I cant tell you how many times i Started a Leve then 30 seconds later BLAMO game crash, failing 1 of the 8 i can do once every 2 days
 
the real question with me is if i wanna do hand-2-hand or use bow :x

Here's a weird question: I remember doing an application for beta not sure if it was open beta or not but I know I did a beta application on the FFXIV site. Will I get to do open beta?

I'm in the same boat as you, applied for Beta on the FFXIV site but never got an invite thus far. From what I understood before is that "Open" Beta is open to everyone and therefore we would all be able to join in since "Closed" Beta was just for those who got given keys. However I am reading on most sites that this "Open" Beta isn't very open at all and that the people allowed to play (at first) will be those with Beta keys from before, who will be issued new keys from SE via the email their previous key was with. They may add more people later on to stress test the servers to ensure they can take even more people but I don't know for sure. Or I may be misunderstanding what is being said elsewhere and it may be totally open after all, we'll see.

I know "Open" beta in other games has generally meant "open to the all" but it just sounds like this will be a phase 4 closed beta to me. Either way, not long too wait until the release anyway so not a big deal to me :D
