This is a perfect example of what is wrong with the current forum setup. The original post appeared in the General Forum, was very carefully written, no one was mentioned by name, and the situation was described as it is without resorting to name-calling our foul language. All the original poster wanted to do was vent a little in a civil, constructive manner, and maybe seek some sympathy.

Instead, the topic is shortly moved to the flameboard, where "anarchy reigns supreme" and any member may now cuss out the original poster to their heart's content. That's just not right. While I personally disagree with the argument made for moving the topic, I'm not second-guessing the mod's actions because that's probably the way it's always been and I'm sure it would've been hijacked to that forum eventually by other posters anyway. The problem is that the current Flameboard is apparantly the only place to vent even a shred of negativity -- even civily and anonymously -- and that flameboard environment is hostile and undesirable to many of us.

I'm gonna be first into the new forums and find all the new NMs!

Pffft... Everyone knows the JP players will get first crack at them.

annabelle, with the current set-up for QCDN there was no other place for it. While he didn't directly name names it is a flame. I would of loved to of moved it to a debate board or something but a topic like that doesn't belong in gen. discussion. I"m all about having the new boards implimented because it doesn't leave only one board for all grievances with players/siatuations - General discussion is a board for general discussion about the game - not bad experiences with rdms/whms/smns/wars whatever.

I would of loved to move that to the new debate board rather than FB, but until they're implimented that's not an option. Which is why I'm all for the new boards.

My disagreement is that I would not have classified it as a flame, but that's a simple discrepency of definition. And as I mentioned earlier, even if the original post might not have been inflammatory, the expected replies probably would be, so it's an understandable move, albeit regrettable.

I do agree that it doesn't exactly fit perfectly in either forum. However, it's not really a "debate," so although the poster wasn't interested in making it personal (until recently, as I was typing this), it probably would have been a Neighborhood Watch issue. If anything, it would have been ideal for an opposite of the "Good Times" forum, but the Flameboard seems to hold the monopoly on those topics.

What concerns me is that a forum that mixes its organization between topics and posting style sounds like it woud be painful to navigate. For instance, you have a board for general topics, a board for scheduling topics, a board for endgame topics, a board for off-topics, a board for real-life topics, etc. Then out of nowhere you have a board for people who like to argue about those aforementioned topics, and another board for people who like to argue violently about those topics. This creates a huge headache. Do you describe your Dynamis tactics in the Endgame Board, or do you post it to the Debate Board because you expect someone to argue with you? If someone else identifies you as a "bad player" on the Watch Board and you disagree with the assessment, are you allowed to debate him or is that not allowed outside the Debate Board? Where does a mod move it to?

I'm all for keeping the forum segregated by topic, not by posting style, and keep the debates in-topic as they form, so long as moderators will be enforcing the level of respect Sculli has implied. I'm confident the debate enthusiasts would still find no shortage of entertainment, especially between the Neighborhood Watch, Real-Life Issues, and a possible "Skills and Tactics" board.

Either way, I applaud the ambition you guys have of making this a better community. /salute

The nice thing about having multiple boards though is that depending on what kind of responses it getsb it can be moved around. I just don't like having one board for all grievences with players/shells etc, which is the flameboard.

More options, though maybe confusing at first - give mods a chance to not condemn player issues to the flameboard constantly.

This is a good point, and one of the reasons I crate the new boards ahead of activating them was to put them into the public eye, to solicit this type of discussion.

With the way I would like to run QCDN the Vana'diel Debate Society may actually not be necessary. Debates or arguments should occur in whatever forum is most appropriate in terms of debate subject.

The purpose of the neighborhood watch will be conflict resolution between affected players. If such resolution will not be possible, then the post will at least inform others of the issue so that they may take appropriate action. Posts such as "omg soandso sucks because he didn't refresh when I asked" will not be acceptable. Community Standards dealing with the new forums and QCDN in general will be forthcoming.

The reason there is an end-game forum is that General can get "noisy" at times, and while those posts are entirely appropriate for General, they can sometimes push good end-game content too far back too fast.

Good or Bad, the Flameboards were personally entertaining to read;
sorta like the funny papers. "/em grabs popcorn"? yeah really!
Not sure where I'll be able to get my entertainment while bored at work now.

I don't really see it as the flameboard leaving. I figure the debate board will just act as a more civilized way of complaining about people. Imagine the flameboard with no people who type like blazn, and no people who think its amusing to beat dead horses, self flame or just generally waste peoples time. It still serves the same purpose, only it will be handled in a better manner and will improve qcdns reputation as such.

The watch i figure will work in conjunction with the debate board. People who are basically found guilty (or who have a known reputation) will be put up there so that people who wish to know who is a good person to party with and who isn't, don't have to sift through hundreds of flames about people missing a refresh.

Besides Sculli already stated on the watch board that he will not put people on it for little mistakes and the like.
