What good does that serve? They're basing it off of Lamias? They'll get Belly Dance to charm things, to then fight? How is that any different from BST? >.O

I... Didnt give any reasons... All I said is that WAR is 1 of the three jobs that can main tank... I really dont see a reason why people like you, jamal and co. feel the need to start a debate over whether or not WAR can tank or not... Its a job with defensive/enmity gear and abilities available to it, and it has provoke... How can people be so blind and still say "WARs not a tank?"

WAR Can tank. I never argued that. I tank all the time, but not with /mnk with koenig gear. I told you they didn't need another tanking gearset, and asked why you thought Dowzer's quote supported your statement, because it didn't. I tanked Fafnir / Nid all the time as war/nin, I voluntarily tank merit cannons, I tanked while leveling.
Defensive gear sucks for tanking, like I said, you need damage reduction or damage negation. What would make a better tank? Me taking less damage and destroying the mob with a haste setup /nin, OR me taking an abundant amount of damage, losing hate, and not dealing near the same amount of damage because I wore defensive gear on a warrior.
Your view on what it takes to tank is skewed, THAT is what I was arguing, not the fact that war can/cannot tank. The whole reason I leveled WAR was because I believed it could be the best Fafnir tank...But if I ever once thought to bring war/mnk anywhere wearing koenig, I'd be laughed out of the Aery.

yeah, that's a more apt observation. I dunno though, COR was a BRD+RNG concept and although there are people who've taken it all the way, it just doesn't seem to have caught on.

Likewise, if they're going to continually combine jobs, Time Mage = WHM+BRD?
Geomancer = BLM+SMN? the list could be endless, and at a point it would seem pointless.

Maybe "charm" was used in it's regular adjective form... and not in reference to the BST job ability of the same name. They could enfeeble/debuff/harm enemies with their charm. I'm not sure... I don't think it has to be interpretted so literally.

I was just about to say this. "Charm" could simply be the writer's way of trying to explain why dancing enfeelbes mobs or somesuch.

Maybe Dancers will be able to Charm Beastmen, (Goblins, Orcs, Quadav, Yagudo, Antican, Demon) but cannot charm monsters like Beastmasters can? Just a thought.

Tanking in merit pt has no base in actually tanking. All it is is an initial voke. I can tank in merit pt's on my BLU. Im trying to figure out why you have tunnel vision when trying to debate topics like this, theres a much wider area to this game than merit and hnm's

Imagine how painfull a HNM would be if it had an AoE Berserk ability, which caused your mages to only attack. Or a monster that caused "Zombie", making it so that every time your WHM tries to heal you, you take damage instead. Bio heals you, and Regen acts like Poison.

Off OP topic, on war tank thingy

don't really know what point I'm trying to make here but I'll just type and see how it ends up.....

I pretty much tanked on WAR up till around the 45-50 mark, and not always with a a second WAR/NIN to back me up, got to be DD only in maybe 1 out of every 4 parties up until that point. Hell, I even got an invite from one party leader to rep someone at 62 and when I got to camp it turned out it was the PLD who was leaving. (lol that didn't end happily - but I gave it a good go :bb: )

Once you hit 30 and have access the advanced jobs, better tanks become available. That would suggest that while WAR is an excellent tank up until 30, it then becomes secondary in it's effectiveness in 'advanced' play (post 30). WAR simply lacks the tools to effectively maintain hate while reducing the amount of damage taken, and the few it does have are made available to PLD and NIN early on.

So I guess that what I am trying to say is that while WAR can tank up till around the 50 mark, it's not very effective, and you have a lot of downtime. It's simply not an option to tank 50-73. You don’t have the tools you need. It's like asking a BRD/WHM to main heal. They have access to almost the same buffs/de-buffs as a WHM or RDM, it's just in song form, so why not? Because it's not an efficient way to spend your time. To the people who argue that WAR could be considered to be an optional tank in the interim levels, I say go and level your WAR to 50 and see how successfully you can tank in an xp party.

The whole Koenig thing was a joke right? I mean what full time WAR in their right mind would spend months camping Nidhogg and go "Hmmm, E.body or M.body..... By Joe! I think I'll take that M.body!"

Edit: LOL Dancer. If it is an option. There is nothing that's going to stop me from leveling it. Miss the oportunity to prance about and cause mass carnage? I think not.

What am I missing, this is the post that I disagreed with. NOT that wars couldn't be tanks. Once again, WARs can tank...you said they suck at tanking because of the gear. I disagreed, and showed you why.

Now you say that's not what the debate is about. If its not, than you shouldn't have posted it.
