I just got my 360 this past Friday, and I gotta say, I'm a bit concerned about online play.... in any game really. How bad are the cheaters and hackers anyway? I have no intention of coding out or modding my Box, and with that said, would a newbie even stand a chance in Halo3 online, even if they played the game pretty well?

I just don't want to get all hyped up about the online play, just to have every trigger bot gun me down every 10 seconds...

I'm looking for everyones opinions here.

As far as i know you can't cheat at all on live, even with a modded xbox. I'm not 100% sure but in the few years i've played on live ive never run into one.

As for getting owned, that just depends on your skill. You can be new and not suck. Play some social games first to see how you do. If the halo ranking system is working like it should you wont get put up again people who are amazing so you should be okay.

The only cheaters you will really find are people who have learned to lag themselves to avoid being killed, but you can't really mod your 360 for that, rather crap out your connection.

The learning curve is pretty tough though. On one game, you might reign supreme, but when you get into games with people who are actually good, you will probably get a new asshole torn.

If I get owned because of my skill, I can live with that since I know I'll get better. I had no idea you couldn't cheat online on 360. I could have sworn I've heard someone tell me you could... who could that have been...? :spiteful:

Either way, no bots on 360 online gaming makes me happy. I guess I feel kinda stupid for posting this, thanks for the help!

Especially with Halo and TFC2, you'll have some "wtf" moments due to the peer to peer hosting setup they use, but that's pretty much it aside from some glitches in certain games (nhl 08 anyone?)

no cheating on live even with modding boxes since modded boxes only run burned games, and the games cannot be altered because no one has cracked the signature code and even if it was cracked its instant banville for cheating.
Halo 3, The most youll run into is a cheat called Standbying, which people cause everyone in the room to lag for a few moments at a time to get them the advantage in a firefight for the kill, but this has been taken care of by bungie and is near extinct thanks to their new banning system.
The second is bridging, where someone with two NIC cards in their pc run a crossover cable to their xbox and bridge the connections on windows, which lets them run commview and pull up the IP of every player in a room, they can then pop your IP into their firewall, block it and turn it on heavy, which will boot you out of the room and leave your team a man or two down and give them an easy chance at winning.
They have to be host to do this, which there are ways they can assure they get host as well by giving their friend the only connective IP in their firewall, so when they connect to a game his friend is the only person he can connect to so it forces host onto his friend, and if his friend is bridging too he is in control.
But this is just about as extinct as standbying. But if you are ever in a party on halo and suddenly you get booted out of a room and it says your still in that party, or you get split into a whole seperate room with one person from the other team, you have been standbyed. Rare now adays so enjoy the cheat free world of xbox live...and send me a friend request why dontcha?
