Well I'll just post my thoughts lately on this whole mess, and probably it will be my last post. This is just to give a lot of you people who can't quite understand why so many level 75s were unhappy about this(at least in my opinion).
First off, like many of you agree, regardless of if it's fair or not fair, this was rather unneeded. Some argue that level 75 means less as it's been done so many times, why should people work as hard? And I admit there's some truth to that.
First I think, at least myself, I was mad because I was getting the short end of the stick. Many disagreed with me, but I knew it was going to be a huge reduction, because there's so much meat to the old system, it's impossible to make a cut to it without it being of great magnitude.
The truth is, I don't know about the other 75ers, but I generally "got over" the exp loss at some point, simply because I'm willing to accept my losses and move on at some point. What was upsetting me then was a nagging feeling from reading a lot of the lower levels's attitudes.
I had felt that for the most part, the 75s here had been respectful of your opinions, and understanding of your way of thinking, but you had been very snobbish towards us. And possibly, I could be alone here(but it doesn't seem like it from some other responses I'm reading), but I felt a little hurt that first we get this update, that regardless of if right or not, is certainly giving us a reason to feel as if the game had been unfair to us.
So why can I understand the lower level's point of view, but for the most part, my view seems completely illogical to you? And it dawned on me today. At some point, on your path from level 1 in Sartubutu to Kirin's front door, your view about the game will change. People have goals, and eventually, you accomplish them.
Like Cubswoo, before I knew how to play, before I knew what a Magic Burst is, I knew I wanted to be a level 75 BLM. On my way up leveling, I have the exact same attitude that a lot of you guys have right now. If they had changed the system when I as level 55, I would have felt it unneeded, but I would not understand how a level 75 player, who has all that I am striving to have, would give a damn about the pathway I have to take.
When I hit level 60, things started to change a bit. I stared at that 30,000 exp til 61 and I knew this was work. This was a game, I enjoyed fighting, but this was work nonetheless. A person can enjoy their job, but a job is serious business.
Before I was level 60, and before I saw 30k tnl staring me in the face, I was, in my own opinion, an above average BLM. I knew my job well, and my gear was better than most. After I hit 60, I was obssessed with having very good gear. Not the best of the best, like players like Vang have. I viewed level 75 as a job, and I wanted that gear not to be the best possible, but to get to 75 as painlessly as possible.
I pushed myself to continue exping when I should sleep, because I wanted level 75. I pushed myself to understand the game mechanics better. I pushed myself to understand the jobs of my party members better. I cannot deny that it changed my mentality into what some of you can't seem to understand yet at this point. I can only say it made me into a "better" player, by the standard alone that my mentality made me more efficient at leveling.
When I party with another player who has a 75 job, there is almost always a high standard, regardless of if they are viewed as "level whores" or what not. They know how to get exp fast, they want to keep a party running smoothly, everyone doing their job and never playing their job poorly and keep a well running party going for a long amount of time. When I'm on a lower job, and there's another 75er out there seeking, the odds are we're going to wind up in the same party by our own intervention. The odds are also we have a respect for each other that's unspoken.
This is my mentality. And I do believe, when you keep leveling, at some point, you're reach level 75, and you can have this mentality, and you can believe respect, and value by whatever is the standard of a great accomplish is everything, and while you can have fun striving for it, that's your new goal, because your old goal of level 75 is lost.
Now not every 75er obviously is like me, I would say though, that the majority of 75ers who had no attitude that 75 was worth being, because it was hard to get there... quit FF eventually. Because despite what you think, level 75 is nothing special in and of itself. I stopped my paladin at 73, why? Because Adaman and Koenig is level 75. There is so little value in reaching 75, because those 2 last levels are nothing compared to 73. For BLM, level 72 when you can equip errant's.. or maybe 73 for some other gear, that's really the height of your power. For WHM level 70 with raise 3... that's what everyone's looking for... the rest, is for the accomplishment of "being" level 75.
I had gotten over the sting of the exp change when I felt rather hurt by the responses of many lower levels.
"Why even play if you think like this?"
"This game is supposed to be fun..." ext ext.
Why could they not understand that for me, this is fun.
And I remember watching this movie about dog shows. It was quite strange to me. At the upper levels the trainers were very obsessive about their dogs. I realized of course, for entertainment and comedic value, this was exagerated from reality. To me, as a total outsider, it seemed... bizzare. And I think, to some of the more amatear dog show participants, the ones at the end seem a little off their rocker. And at first, I judged them. I judged them for being ridiculous for something I could not understand. And then I realized, to an outsider, maybe being upset about what I do for MY hobby reflects the same way to others who don't share these same feelings.
And I will say simply this in closing... I have accepted that to those who have not yet, or will never started to look at the game the way I do... that the way I felt stung by this update was hard to understand. Please in return accept that for most people, you have to feel about your character as an investment at some point, or quit when you're finished. Some stay to experience gods. Some stay to experience dynamis. These things you will get your taste of at some point, and realize they're hard work, slow rewards and eventually you'll get sick of them. Some of you stay for friends. They will leave eventually. And maybe you'll be happy to leave then, it's not the end of the world if you quit a game.
But I don't know... I'm tired of arguing it, and I'm tired of being insulted for arguing it.
