Next update on EXP

And why the **** does it it feel like everything ive posted today has been ignored?

I, as a 64 drk, kind of see where you're coming from. My first thoughts about this were 'great, I've had to spend ages going from 40-60+ and now I get to spend even LESS time going 60-75 than i was planning on, which are really the dark knight glory stages. Eff that.'

I don't know how to commiserate with you though, there are some things I find appealing about the update, and I do have my qualms about it - but neither me nor anyone else is going to change SE's decision so I'll just live with it.

I'm level 58 (stated once again, and obvious in my sig) and I do not like the changes. They do benefit me actaully, since now it wont take as long to level up, but I was looking foward to that time to be honest. I can level whenever I want. I really isnt that hard, nor was it that hard before the update. Sometimes there are those days when you spend a long time waiting, it happens. I deal with that and am usually rewarded with a good partying experience and even if the party isn't so stellar I have a saying to make myself feel better. "Any exp is good exp."

Though I won't deny awesome parties make for a much more enjoyable experience.

Not to sound selfish, but I'm trying to save up 2 mil to buy a hauby (haubergeon sp?) and I've never ever had that much gil at one time before. It's hard enough just saving up the gil, so when I make this purchase it's for a few different and important reasons.

1) It's a must have for Dark Knights, it's lvl 59 to wear and while some Drks wait till lvl 60 before saving up for this I want it as soon as I can wear it. I always have my gear before I level... I like to be prepared.

2) There isn't anything better other than the +1 version and considering the price is double the NQ.. I'm not waiting that damn long to save up gil, i've been waiting long enough and unless someone magically hands me an extra 2 mil, getting a hauby +1 anytime soon is a dream, obtaining the NQ sooner is much more of a reality.

3) (and to tie into the level spectrum here) The hauby is good from lvl 59-68. At 69 is the Hauberk, higher level version essentially the same item with higher defense. (dont remember exact stats) From 59-68 are or atleast were crutial stages in the game and generally took some time to get through. This was good though, as it would have made the 2 mil purchase seem a lot more worthwhile, and id be able to get the most out of my gear for quite a long time before having to upgrade and spend even more of a rediculas amount of gil on the next best peice of eq needed.

But now it's not quite the same. Sure, I am still going to get the hauby. I need it if im going to level and do the best I can, but it isn't going to last nearly as long because it's even easier to level through what used to be a crucial stage. The old exp system took more time, but because it did One could learn more about the abilities they were gaining in these times. Learn to better know what to do in certain instances because they had more experience in them.

I feel almost cheated that I won't even be able to get all that experience now. Experience others that have already past that point may have, and I may or may not be able to fully get the same experiences or hone my skills quite as much, because now it takes less time.

It doesn't even really matter now if the party I join ends up being awful, okay, or fantastic. Infact, a fantastic party means faster exp (which is good yes) but also means I may be missing out on really testing my skills in varied parties like before just because im in one that's really zooming. That's part of the partying experience, that's part of the experiencing the game to me. Understanding all the different parties and people mechanics. Playing and enjoying all that, it won't last as long now. Not on one job anyway. I wan't to enjoy my one job to the fullest before moving foward with another, but how much experience (and I dont mean Exp) cant I gain if the partying sessions can zoom through levels faster now.

Do you understand this feeling? This is how I feel, and it isn't as good as before.. but maybe I can get past it. I dunno.

You do know that the Hauberk is cheaper and has better stats? Look as the Haubergeon as an investment to make sure you don't spend your money on other things. Plus, DRKs need it. And you'll probably get more money back for your Hauby than what you paid for it. No complaining :P

did anyone else take a look at the curve they gave?

It was more of a consistant increase, and it met in two places: LV60 and LV75. One can only assume from this graphic that it requires the same amount of exp to get to 60 and 75, its is just a slower increase early on and a steeper increase closer to 75. I can't confirm, but those were my observations to the graphic they provided.

It's not the endpoints you need to be looking at, it's the AREA UNDER THE GRAPH!!!

pere just give up man, all sensibilty is lost here.. people just want to talk to be seen at this point..

I'm interested what this did to my NIN TNL but I havn't been able to get through to the download yet, anyone got a lvl 61 that can tell me how much?

From the point of view of someone that is both a.) lazy and b.) dealing with a lot of RL issuses that take away from A it sounds pretty nice that it won't take me 56349856749385764 more years to get to 75, I've already spent a year and a half trying to figure out which job I want to play and lvling several to mid lvls before figuring out that I didn't like them and finally finding hte job I was looking for in NIN. I figure that in doing all of that i've paid my dues and have earned the right to slack off on my 61-75.

This will also cut the amount of money that I have to spend on ninja tools. The price of tools can get pretty redeculous and they're rising every day. It takes huge amount of money to keep it up and if this means that I wont have to farm as much per lvl I'm very happy with that.

There are pros and cons of course and this will benefit some more than others but In my case I thinks me likes it, tho i havn't yet seen what the cut is.

A few points:

1. There are pure idiots who level grinded just like you did. Your massive amount of playtime is already cheapened to the reality of meaning nothing. If you gained knowledge through those levels fine, but so will I. Moot point. It's not the play time put into it, but the experiance had.

2. You power-level friends, help them with quests, help them with gear, yet because SE makes it easier for EVERYONE to level you pitch a fit? If you can't even START an arguement without being hypocrites, I want no part of it.

Just two things to consider in your rants.

Ahh, see? There are any number of ways to discriminate against someone for something THAT THEY HAVE NO CONTROL OVER.

Wow. I went from 34K tnl to 26K tnl. I might be able to get a full level in one XP session again.

If someone actually wants to put a message up like that, they'd only be proving they think of themselves as above others. Let them label themselves. I'll take what I get and if I don't like it, I can always write to SE.

Hey, I'm only lvl 42. I was just making a suggestion so people would stop complaining about it. :o

I'd agree with you on that. I think I mentioned that about 100 times now.

I went from @14000 to @2700 on WHM. I might just level the class again =P
And I'm @1 on SMN. 6000EXP shot to crap @_o

Perhaps it's time for me to start leveling my WHM62 again ^^;

Thank you SE for robbing me of 88.5k experience points.

On their new curve I would've been LV70.

The difference pre-update / update is ~123k. I feel sorry for all those LV75 players that lost that chunk of exp, not counting those with multiple 50+ jobs. Maybe we should all just shake our heads and move along, but it still feels like a lose-lose situation

Before I had ~334k to LV75, now I have ~306k to LV75. I guess that's a small comfort, but it's still only ~28k less. I'm not quitting over this, I just feel robbed, although I don't think it wouldve been fair to be LV70 either.

The winners here are the ones with LV50 jobs as their highest job. Their road just became ~123k exp shorter.

ps. Might have made some minor error when calculating, but it's still ballpark..

Basically lvl 50s will be 75 when they would normally be 72ish...big deal

As lvl 65 I lost about 83k and get 75 1 lvl early...again no biggie. I love this update though...new ENM and ballista stuff is great 8)

Well I'll just post my thoughts lately on this whole mess, and probably it will be my last post. This is just to give a lot of you people who can't quite understand why so many level 75s were unhappy about this(at least in my opinion).

First off, like many of you agree, regardless of if it's fair or not fair, this was rather unneeded. Some argue that level 75 means less as it's been done so many times, why should people work as hard? And I admit there's some truth to that.

First I think, at least myself, I was mad because I was getting the short end of the stick. Many disagreed with me, but I knew it was going to be a huge reduction, because there's so much meat to the old system, it's impossible to make a cut to it without it being of great magnitude.

The truth is, I don't know about the other 75ers, but I generally "got over" the exp loss at some point, simply because I'm willing to accept my losses and move on at some point. What was upsetting me then was a nagging feeling from reading a lot of the lower levels's attitudes.

I had felt that for the most part, the 75s here had been respectful of your opinions, and understanding of your way of thinking, but you had been very snobbish towards us. And possibly, I could be alone here(but it doesn't seem like it from some other responses I'm reading), but I felt a little hurt that first we get this update, that regardless of if right or not, is certainly giving us a reason to feel as if the game had been unfair to us.

So why can I understand the lower level's point of view, but for the most part, my view seems completely illogical to you? And it dawned on me today. At some point, on your path from level 1 in Sartubutu to Kirin's front door, your view about the game will change. People have goals, and eventually, you accomplish them.

Like Cubswoo, before I knew how to play, before I knew what a Magic Burst is, I knew I wanted to be a level 75 BLM. On my way up leveling, I have the exact same attitude that a lot of you guys have right now. If they had changed the system when I as level 55, I would have felt it unneeded, but I would not understand how a level 75 player, who has all that I am striving to have, would give a damn about the pathway I have to take.

When I hit level 60, things started to change a bit. I stared at that 30,000 exp til 61 and I knew this was work. This was a game, I enjoyed fighting, but this was work nonetheless. A person can enjoy their job, but a job is serious business.

Before I was level 60, and before I saw 30k tnl staring me in the face, I was, in my own opinion, an above average BLM. I knew my job well, and my gear was better than most. After I hit 60, I was obssessed with having very good gear. Not the best of the best, like players like Vang have. I viewed level 75 as a job, and I wanted that gear not to be the best possible, but to get to 75 as painlessly as possible.

I pushed myself to continue exping when I should sleep, because I wanted level 75. I pushed myself to understand the game mechanics better. I pushed myself to understand the jobs of my party members better. I cannot deny that it changed my mentality into what some of you can't seem to understand yet at this point. I can only say it made me into a "better" player, by the standard alone that my mentality made me more efficient at leveling.

When I party with another player who has a 75 job, there is almost always a high standard, regardless of if they are viewed as "level whores" or what not. They know how to get exp fast, they want to keep a party running smoothly, everyone doing their job and never playing their job poorly and keep a well running party going for a long amount of time. When I'm on a lower job, and there's another 75er out there seeking, the odds are we're going to wind up in the same party by our own intervention. The odds are also we have a respect for each other that's unspoken.

This is my mentality. And I do believe, when you keep leveling, at some point, you're reach level 75, and you can have this mentality, and you can believe respect, and value by whatever is the standard of a great accomplish is everything, and while you can have fun striving for it, that's your new goal, because your old goal of level 75 is lost.

Now not every 75er obviously is like me, I would say though, that the majority of 75ers who had no attitude that 75 was worth being, because it was hard to get there... quit FF eventually. Because despite what you think, level 75 is nothing special in and of itself. I stopped my paladin at 73, why? Because Adaman and Koenig is level 75. There is so little value in reaching 75, because those 2 last levels are nothing compared to 73. For BLM, level 72 when you can equip errant's.. or maybe 73 for some other gear, that's really the height of your power. For WHM level 70 with raise 3... that's what everyone's looking for... the rest, is for the accomplishment of "being" level 75.

I had gotten over the sting of the exp change when I felt rather hurt by the responses of many lower levels.

"Why even play if you think like this?"
"This game is supposed to be fun..." ext ext.

Why could they not understand that for me, this is fun.

And I remember watching this movie about dog shows. It was quite strange to me. At the upper levels the trainers were very obsessive about their dogs. I realized of course, for entertainment and comedic value, this was exagerated from reality. To me, as a total outsider, it seemed... bizzare. And I think, to some of the more amatear dog show participants, the ones at the end seem a little off their rocker. And at first, I judged them. I judged them for being ridiculous for something I could not understand. And then I realized, to an outsider, maybe being upset about what I do for MY hobby reflects the same way to others who don't share these same feelings.

And I will say simply this in closing... I have accepted that to those who have not yet, or will never started to look at the game the way I do... that the way I felt stung by this update was hard to understand. Please in return accept that for most people, you have to feel about your character as an investment at some point, or quit when you're finished. Some stay to experience gods. Some stay to experience dynamis. These things you will get your taste of at some point, and realize they're hard work, slow rewards and eventually you'll get sick of them. Some of you stay for friends. They will leave eventually. And maybe you'll be happy to leave then, it's not the end of the world if you quit a game.

But I don't know... I'm tired of arguing it, and I'm tired of being insulted for arguing it.

Good post Fire.

I don't like the change to exp much myself (as already stated), but I'm getting over it and trying to look at the bright sides as well as figuring out how to benefit the most out of these shorter levels. :/
