Ninja Methods to Maintain Hate

If you find throwing a bit pricey, I can direct you to a nice throwing chakram.

In the Konschtat Highlands there a wolf NM called Haty. It drops this very nice Chakram called Rogesturin (sp?). It has decent range, doenst take up any ammo, does 9 damage, and adds +1 AGI.

A very nice throwing weapon indeed.

EDIT:

Not sure about the specifics of Haty's spawn, I fought it once behind the Crag of Dem and again in the Valley leading to N.Gustaberg. Both times were on Darksday during a Lightningstorm (I THINK, not sure if Lightingstorms can happen on Darksday.) so that may have been the two main factors. Then again, I can be completely wrong.

This thread is very informative. It's good you asked about it. My nin is at 37 right now and I have most of the gear you have and macro gear for ws and throwing(nin have A or A+ throwing). When I hit 40 would it be smart to macro in INT gear for Ni wheel? or might that be overdoing it?

Macroing gear for Ni wheel is a double edged sword. It will give your spells more potency, but if something goes wrong during the wheel, you will have to switch back quickly.

That would be over doing it, you'd be better off sticking with the str/acc gear and just using the wheel for hate, really the int is going to give "that" much more dmg and since you'll be swinging your katanas in between, that would be a bit hecktic for lvl 40.

Also one more thing that I am not sure if it was mentioned (if it was forgive me for missing it) The elemental spells that weaken to certain elements, also weaken the mobs resistence to debuffs that carring that same elemental attribute. For example Raiton weakens to Earth, and Hojo is earth based, thus'ly the mobs ability to resist Hojo (slow) is reduced. Though I am not convinced if that increases hate generated, it at least makes your spells more effective and that fun 50k a stack Hojo powders less wasted.

The best advice I can think of to give NIN's out there is to save that TP.

Once the battle starts, Provoke > Berserk > WS > Debuff > Provoke. I have been using this strategy since my NIN was around lvl 40, and the initial hate spike of the Provoke + weaponskill is usually enough to keep hate until your Provoke timer is up.

Once you hit 70, and Warcry is available, holding hate is a lot easier. And end game NIN's with god/DD gear can put out some insane damage, so losing hate becomes harder for me than holding it.

INT gear for elemental Ni doesn't make much of a difference without magic attack bonus, and that needs either a BLM sub (bad idea for tanking) or a moldavite earring. And really, the earring is enough of a bonus, and the other gear takes up enough space, to where extra INT gear for elemental casts is just too much inventory space for too little of a bonus.

And sometimes if I couldn't stick a debuff the first time, I'd fire off the appropriate elemental right before recasting the debuff, seemed to work quite well.

If I remember correctly, the spawn's determining factors are that it be any night during a New Moon.

I thought is was a full moon not a new moon.

yup, 17:00-04:00 during a full moon.

There are actually two different NMs for the same item. One spawns on Full Moon, the other spawns on New Moon. Same spawn region, same drop, same level. One is a Shadow, the other is a Hound.

Bendigeit Vran is the shadow. Haty is the hound, and yes the shadow in during the new moon.

i tried doing 40-50 nin with out wheell tried to tell blaze its possable hit 41 and i lost all hate ele wheel every fight till lv 61 when u can dd for hate 40-60 nin will cost thse most

There's a difference between using the wheel, and spinning the wheel. Like I said up higher, I only use the wheel as much as I need to establish hate. I don't go and spin it the entire fight. And yet, I manage to hold hate off some incredibly well-equipped MNKs and WARs.

Anyway, 40-60 doesn't cost the most. 57 costs the most, because of Scorpion Harness. Which is also the reason my NIN is sitting happily at level 50, oblivious to the wallet pains of the SH. <_<

If only it were that easy. Me, I've got a better chance of getting V claw off of Genbu than off of Serket, and really don't want to spend my points on it over Byakko's Haidate.

If NIN is your first job to 57, you aren't going to have an HNM LS to get you a V.claw yet.

Nono, my sky and HNM shells are completely separate. My point was that, with gilsellers, ugly ToDs, and people who want to hunt something more important (say.... behemoth), the chances of me even laying a finger on Serket are pretty slim. Sky, it's just a question of getting the pop items and waiting for it to drop.

Aaaannnd back on topic. Im not sure if it was mentioned before, but when you get into to a pt and you have either BRD, WHM or RDM if there not hasting you make sure to politely let them know to keep it on you, Haste will lower the recast timer on your all your spells but more inmportatly your Utsusemis. The faster your shadows are ready, ther more easier it is to keep them up = less hits = easier keeping hate.
So far im 55 and never really had a problem holding hate as i have many good mentors and having a war at 45 helped in tanking experience and DDing as well. Much like Mai most of the gear we had was the same cept i was using 2 str rings and Fuma for feet. Plus dorado sushi,

My personal strat for holding hate was at begining of battle: Provoke> Kurayami > Hojo >: if we had a THF He would SATA on me and then i would solo all my WS with proper Acc/str gear. i always pop berserk before WS and turn it off right after.

At lv 40-50 the elemtal wheel is a very powerfull for holding hate w/o any Emnity gear. If you can afford it. Especially when you are MB SC's.

Shurikens, as one of the posters put it, is also a very good tool. If you are using Sushi i'd recomend this. i myself use them alot the lv 28 ones. High DMG and extremely low delay.

And the fact that most ppl overlook the race, we mithras have a good thing going for us with the natural high DEX. after 45 using sushi i was amazed at the amount of Crits i was getting off.

Not sure if you plan on taking NIN very far, but once you hit 52 it becomes much easier, there is a possible +4 emnity just in equip+Dorado sushi=7 emnity. On a final note...you might not want to keep using Jack O lant. for food, as i agree the 10+acc thing, you are loosing on many more inmportant other stats from sushi and or meat at your lv.

With my:2cents: put in, i Wish you Good luck. (^.^) _\/,,,
